I absolutely adored this (very) funny novel that will resonate with any ladies of a certain age.
I look forward to the author's next!
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Divorced Not Dead is first book I’ve read by Harper Ford.
Frankie is fabulous, fit, 50, and finally going through a divorce from her ex-husband, the aptly nick-named Twatface.
Reading about her journey of self-discovery as she tries dating again is hilarious and heartbreaking at times.
If you want to read a realistic take on the search for love, this read might be for you.
Thank you Avon Books and Netgalley for this book.
Sadly for me it didn't live up to expectations.
From other reviews I really thought this was going to be laugh out loud, but it wasn't.
Although it was well written I just found it boring, so I was really disappointed.
I did finish it but it was a struggle, and you could just guess the ending.
So sorry, 3 stars, and this is only my opinion.
A great funny read. As someone who has been on the dreaded dating apps the POF parts really made me laugh. Really great characters, a book I will be recommending to friends.
Absolutely fantastic, funny and realistic! Harper has written a great story resonating to million other women who are or who have at some point met a narcissistic personality. This is to be read for anyone who has gone through the divorce at some point in their life, or is freshly heading there. Divorce is not the end of the world, even when one feels so at the time or the start, its a starting point, where life improves!
I looked forward to this book when I was heavy in my women's Fiction era. I think the trouble with being a mood reader is that sometimes you are just not in the mood to read what's on your tbr. I am afraid this book is a victim to my current reading state. I felt like I had to motivate myself to pick it up. There are some major funny bits in here and I love the exploration of dating post divorce in a dating landscape that is less than ideal. So I am submitting to a soft DNF at a little over 50% and will return to it next time.
I think if you loved books like The Ex Talk by Rachel Solomon or The Happy Couple by Naiose Dolan this would be a great next read for you!!
Thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
3.5
After two decades of marriage, fifty-year-old Frankie decides she's had enough. So, after dropping off her eighteen-year-old son James at Manchester University, she packs up and moves into the flat above her quilting shop.
Her friend Bel sets her up on dates through dating apps. For someone who hasn't dated in twenty years, Frankie finds this new experience daunting.
The storyline is excellent, and the characters are interesting and well-described.
Thank you to Harper Ford, NetGalley, and Avon for the ARC of this book.
Unfortunately this wasn’t for me and I haven’t finished it. I found it slow pace and hard to get invested in. I liked the characters and it was funny in places but wasn’t engaging enough for me on this occasion.
An enjoyable, funny read. Great humour and characters. Becca writes some lovely books and keeps me engaged. Recommended.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was a relatable and hilarious read! I laughed out loud so many times throughout. The characters were well done and the storyline was engaging and realistic. Highly recommend
This book had me laughing out loud and crying! Such a relatable, funny book that you can’t help but love. Everyone should pick it up this summer for an easy read!
I didn’t really gel well with this one, I found myself not really interested in the story and found the main character quite jarring at times. There was a lot of unnecessary swearing and the way she spoke just didn’t do it for me
Solid story with well written characters. I enjoyed the whole book and it flowed easy for me as a reader.
As a 31 year old, I don’t *quite* resonate with the fmc, HOWEVER, I adored this book. Frankie is hilarious. Her dry humour and witty banter was sublime.
Following the months after divorcing her husband and her son leaving for university, Frankie decides to get back on the bandwagon and make the most of her single life 🤣
I’m a woman’s woman through and through and I LOVED the exploration of a divorced woman being back on the dating scene and fighting against the view that single woman cant enjoy themselves. I thought that the subliminal message in this was done so cleverly
The most laugh out loud hilarious story it's honest and sincere. Highly relateable and I recommend it for adults only as it is so brutally honest with a few swear words thrown in for good measure.
Divorced (Not Dead) goes into the comedic and sometimes heartbreaking world of online dating. Frankie had just started her life over. She is in the process of divorcing her husband that she has labelled Twatface, her son has left for university, and she has opened up a new business using the only savings she has. When her friend suggests getting back into the dating scene, she is introduced to online dating. She quickly learns that dating isn't what it used to be with catfishing, kittenfishing, ghosting and all the wonderful kinks of the internet.
This was a highly entertaining book. You know a book is going to be great when the first chapter is titled F--k You Mars. I loved Frankie as a character and enjoyed her adventure as she learned how to navigate online dating. However, I was not the biggest fan of Frankie and Stef's relationship and wish the ending had been different.
Divorced (Not Dead) is out now.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Book UK for the opportunity to review Divorced (Not Dead). All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is such a hoot!
It's refreshingly real and relatable, huge fun and breathtakingly honest, and yet in that honesty, there is also real compassion and sensitivity with gallons of humour thrown in for good measure.
Frankie is a great character, she's feisty, fun, real, relatable and very down-to-earth, I love the fact that we have an older heroine than the stereotypical twenty-something which we seem to be bombarded with lately, she is a breath of fresh air and we really need to see more leading women in their 40's and 50's.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, the writing is light-hearted and so very easy to read, loved it!
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
Who would have thought a book about a group of people quilting would be such a good read.. To be fair that's not all it's about but it was my favourite part. Frankie has just split up from her nasty, twisted husband and started up her own business with a quilting supplies shop. At the age of 50 she thinks she is too old for romance but her best friend Bel and the girls in her quilting group talk her into trying a few internet dating sites. I loved her descriptions of some of the quite frankly crazy men she meets. She really enjoys winding up those who are obviously catfishing. Some of her replies had me laughing out loud. Then there are the dates she goes on, I won't give any details as that would spoil it for future readers but any woman who refers to her. ex-husband as twatface is going to have some great names for her dates. Of course there is a real love interest in hunky half Slovakian Stefan who comes along to Frankie's quilting group to escort his elderly mother but he's engaged to the beautiful Zuzana so he's out of bounds. Or is he?
This was a real laugh. The different women in the quilting group she sets up to draw people to her shop are hilarious. From blue haired Paige to posh Michelle they are all determined to find Frankie a man and have set their minds firmly on Stefan. I can't wait to find out what this author will come out with next.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
