I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so much fun. I loved reading about all the magical mishaps and all the chaos that Poppy and Alex had to deal with. They were also really cute together. While their relationship definitely progressed very quickly they both had amazing chemistry together.

My one slight complain is that each chapter felt a little on the long side. I felt the need to take a break every now and then after reading a few chapters.

I’m a real fan of witchy romcoms and felt it needed to be autumn snuggled under a blanket reading this!
It was a bit slow to begin with but once I got into I loved the heartwarming and charming read. I really felt I wanted to explore the world myself with some of the characters (cat and dog fencers!!). I would love to dive back into this world again.
Josh and Essie I didn’t find had lots of chemistry.

All in all it’s a fun book with an amazing world and side characters. Just wish the main romance had a little more spark!

My Rating: DNF

This book was unfortunately not my cup of tea. The writing style, characters, magic system all just didn't add up for me. The main character was "quirky" and chaotic--annoyingly so and the magic system didnt seem to have any boundaries as far as I read. The description interested me but unfortunately I couldn't finish the book.

I absolutely love a good witchy ROM-Com and this book hot the spot for me. I can just picture Poopy with her magic hair and chaos all around her. So super cute and definitely a book I will recommend for anyone wanting witchy laugh out loud fun!

Hex and the City’s title is the first thing that caught my attention. The book is what kept it. Such a cute story about a witch, Poppy, who is a bit chaotic anywhere she goes and is learning to accept that about her self. she is unlucky in love and that is what brings her into the path of Alex or Alec as his stage name suggests. She sells this illusionist a cursed pendant by accident and then tries to get it back before it hurts someone. The chaos that ensues helps to push them together as they discover who they really are and what really matters in life. I did find it frustrating that Poppy judged Alex so harshly and didn’t talk to him first about certain things that happened in the book. The chemistry between them was fire, quite literally sometimes and they had a bit of a love hate vibe going at the beginning which was well done. The writing is great and the storyline is faced paced. A really fun read especially when even the hair becomes an interesting character in the book as well!

A big thank you to Kate Johnson, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Hex and the City comes out September 3, 2023

In this humorous witchy romcom, a witch and a famous illusionist are drawn together after the accidental sale of a cursed necklace. Poppy's not only possesses magical hair that likes to eat thing it shouldn't, she also has magic that is unpredictable at the best of times. After seeing her ex making out with another woman, she accidently infuses her magic into an amulet that is then sold to Axl Storm who happens to be a very famous magician. What ensues afterwards is a delightful adventure featuring time-travel, ghosts, magic, chaos and romance.

I'm going to be honest it was really hard for me to get into this book, but once I passed the first 30 pages I couldn't put it down. Poppy is such a relatable and likable female character, whos character growth was fun to read. Axl was a simp of a main male character, he fell first and he fell hard. The side characters were fun and supportive. If you are looking for a sexy, funny, witchy romance, I highly suggest Hex and the City.

ARC Review

Story 4/5 ⭐️

Dual POV
Third Person

A drunken witch and a pendant to be cursed, what can go wrong! The book follows Poppy and Alex trying to break the curse

I enjoyed the connections between Poppy and Alex, it is very much insta love. The secondary characters were really likeable and added to the story.

I hadn’t read the first book in this series but this didn’t have any affect on this book. The only thing I struggled with was the third person narrative but once I got used to it, I did enjoy the writing .

I would recommend this book and looked forward to reading the first in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this Arc in return for my honest review.

Hex and the City review

Okay so I'm all about the witchy vibes recently and this fun cute Rom Com was the perfect addition to my recent witchy reads.

Poppy aka nickname Rapunzel (so cute) with her chaos personality and her magical hair starts a chain reaction of events by accidentally cursing a pendant in the magic shop where she works. Said pendant is then brought by handsome illusionist and performer Axl Storm aka Alex.

Random events and chaos erupts when these two are together.

The writing was cute, fast paced and Poppy is a warm, kind and lovable FMC. I love that she's a little bit all over the place and chaos and I love all the writing about her sentient hair - literally doing what it likes!

It was the perfect length a short fast snappy read filled with some spice but also so much fun plot to get stuck into.

Highly recommend for a fun light read with lots of witchy adventure!

This book is really funny and so not what I normally read. It was so good I’m going to see what the author has written before. I thought it was really fresh so would recommend.

Oh, buckle up, my fellow readers, because Hex and The City is a wild ride that will leave you bewitched! Kate Johnson has concocted a delightful and enchanting adventure filled with chaos, magic, witches, mystery, romance, and one heck of a heroine with magical hair that would give Rapunzel from Tangled a run for her money. I mean, who doesn't love a protagonist with magical locks?

Let's dive right into the magical world of Poppy Thistlefoot, a witch with a knack for jewelry design and an uncanny ability to attract chaos wherever she goes. Working at the Hubble Bubble Magic Shop, where real magic is a big no-no, Poppy accidentally sells a cursed pendant to none other than Axl Storm, the dashing and oh-so-charming celebrity magician. Cue the sparks, both magical and romantic!

What follows is a rollercoaster of events as Poppy and Axl find themselves knee-deep in trouble, trying to reverse the curse they unwittingly unleashed. From mischievous spells to unexpected twists, Hex and The City keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering just how much chaos two people can stir up. Spoiler alert: the answer is A LOT!

One of the things I loved most about this book is the seamless world-building. Despite this being the second installment in the series, I had no trouble diving right into the story without having read the first book. Kudos to Kate Johnson for making it accessible to new readers like me! I instantly connected with the characters and their magical shenanigans, and I found myself rooting for their success throughout.

The romance between Poppy and Axl is positively swoon-worthy. Their banter, the electric chemistry, and the playful dynamic had me grinning like a Cheshire cat. I'm a sucker for a good love story, and this one hit all the right notes. The author really knows how to keep the romantic tension simmering while the chaos ensues.

While I adored this book from start to finish, there were moments when the pacing felt a tad rushed. I would have loved a bit more time to savor certain scenes and delve deeper into the magical world. However, this didn't detract significantly from my enjoyment, and I still devoured every page with gusto.

In conclusion, Hex and The City is a fun and lighthearted read that deserves all the MAGICAL stars! Kate Johnson's whimsical storytelling and lovable characters will sweep you off your feet and transport you to a world where chaos and magic collide. So grab your cauldron, gather your familiars, and get ready for a wild adventure that will leave you spellbound. I can't wait to see what magical mischief Poppy and her gang get up to in future installments!

Hex and the City is a witchy rom-com. It takes place in London and follows Poppy, who is a chaotic quirky witch with magic hair. Her insta-love intrest is Alex, a mortal stage magician. There's a coven of sassy older witches, and a fat cat familiar. For a book with short chapters, It was really packed and kind if confusing at times because there was so much going on. Time travel, childhood trauma, fighting a ghost mummy, a cursed pendant and an evil witch. All around, a whimsical, light hearted read.

I just couldn't connect with these characters. I thought the MMC was just off-putting and the FMC was chaotic but not endearing. The concept was great and felt like it had potential but it's not for me.

I loved this book! What a wild and crazy ride with some magical realism (and witchcraft!), a whole lot of steamy romance and a terrific happily ever after.

The characters were compelling and I found myself rooting for them to be together. The twist was a good surprise and it made for a juicy read. Highly recommend!

I will post about it closer to the book's pub date on my social media channels.

I absolutely loved this book. I love anything Cozy, Witchy, and having a sex in the city vibe to boot? YES PLEASE!

I love Poppy's character so much! I knew I would love the writing, as I read Hex Appeal and loved it as well! I loved the chaotic nature of Poppy, and the twist and turns of the book. I ended up reading it in two days! I will be purchasing it to add to my book collection when it's released for sure!

Kate made this book so hard to put down with her writing style, and the characters were lovable. The book is fast paced, the characters are sexy cool and fun, and the magical adventure is fabulous!

Thank you to the author, the publisher and Net Galley for the e-arc!

Had to manually post to goodreads, It states on Netgalley unable to find the ISBN on goodreads

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins One More Chapter for providing this arc to me in exchange of a truthful review.

“Hex and the City” is a witchy romcom where we follow Poppy, a witch that one day creates a cursed pendant that ends up in the hands of the famous Axl Storm, a super hot magician. While trying to get the pendant back Poppy actually gets to know Axl and through various adventures maybe even find love?

I loved the premise of this book being a Rapunzel retelling with witches and I definitely saw the inspiration from it. Rapunzel is one of my favorite princesses so any retelling I can get my hands on I’ll read.

The book was extremely easy to get through, I loved the writing style and it was such a good and funny rom com. I wasn’t super keen on the romance at first because it was a bit insta-lovey, but by the end of it I was totally on board with it.

Poppy was such a relatable mc and super easy to like. Axl as well was quite a good male mc. At first he portrayed himself a certain way that made sense with his career, but I loved his growth and him being open about his feelings and insecurities through the story.

The coven was hilarious, Iris, Fiona and Sylvia were such supportive, but sassy characters. Poppy’s parents also grew on me; I wasn’t super keen on them at the beginning, but in the end I totally got on board especially with Poppy’s mom.

I definitely didn’t expect so many adventures, I thought it was just going to be a cute rom com, but it definitely packed some action as well which was super fun and exciting to read about.

I definitely recommend this book if you’re a fan of Rapunzel, witches, romcoms or if you’re looking for a book with similar vibes as “The ex hex” or “go hex yourself”.

Hex and the City DELIVERED!

This book is the perfect cosy autumn read and I loved it. Poppy is a brilliantly messy witch who left chaos in her wake. After getting drunk, angry as her ex, she places a curse on a pendant.

In comes swoonworthy Alex, buying a sympathy gift for his never-going-to-be-his-girlfriend cast member, picks the pendant... and of course, chaos ensues.

Hex and The City is going to be a great read for anyone who loves cosy witchy romances.
