This wasn't really suited to my personal preference, but I can understand why other people have enjoyed it. The setting was very nice but the plot wasn't very original and I don't think the romance was very believable at first (the 'love at first sight' thing has never really worked with me).
Having said that, fans of quick, easy-to-read romances should definitely give this a go!
This was actually really sweet. Warm and wholesome. A Hallmark movie in a book, and a mix of Hallmark romance and Hallmark mystery at that. And I love Hallmark mysteries!
There are many things I enyoed while reading The Pumpkin Spice Café. Thos wholesome but flawed characters. The small town wibes and all its cozy little nooks. And just the atmosfere that was so perfect to break this gloomy fall weather.
My complaint? Well, it wasn't exactly the most original story ever. I've read a lot of these before and luckily I was in the mood for something exactly like it when I picked it up. Otherwise I might have ended up bored by it.
This romance with a splash of mystery was great. I loved it! It was a cozy easy read, loved all the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author and this series.
I couldn't resist picking The Pumpkin Spice Cafe up whilst it was still November and still somewhat fitting. This was adorable and an incredibly quick read. I loved our two main characters and absolutely loved the grumpy x sunshine element to it.
Now, I'm not the biggest fan of insta-love and while this book did contain it I do feel like it was done quite well. The two didn't hook up immediately and I feel like with the pace and size of the book Jeanie and Logan came together at a good time, allowing us to see their relationship develop. Nothing bugs me more than when a couple get together and the book just ends. Like please, give me more of their life together.
I loved the cozy and fall vibes in this book and I completely agree when people say that it gave them Gilmore Girl's vibes. I could have easily have read another 100 pages of this book and I'm so happy we're getting another book in this world.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I thought this book was cute. Simple and sweet. The concept wasn't very original and it didn't give very grumpy x sunshine vibes, at least to the extent I wanted. However, it was still a cozy Fall read that was quick to get through.
I had such high hopes for this one because of its adorable and gorgeous cover. I even bought the audiobook to help me get to it during actual fall season. While I did enjoy the cute coffee shop and pumpkin farmer vibes, it just didn’t give me the feels and immersive experience I was hoping for.
This is such a cute read. I really enjoyed it. I thought the characters where lovely. Definitely an easy read. Loved it
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe combined some of my favorite things to make a really enjoyable atmospheric fall cozy mystery.
Jeanie Ellis has found herself the new owner of the Pumpkin Spice Cafe in a quirky little town with some of the nosiest neighbors. While she feels she fits right into Dream Harbor, she can’t help but to sense that someone or something might be out to harm her little cafe. In comes local farmer Logan Anders to help Jeanie uncover the mystery of the cafe. While Logan likes to keep to himself, with a little push from the eccentric townspeople Jeanie and Logan will work together and maybe pumpkin spice sparks will fly.
I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and the cast of characters were zany and fun. The mystery, while easy to solve, was appealing. The town itself is the perfect setting for a cozy mystery. I liked that we are already set up for future books in the series and know who the characters will be. The only drawback for me was that the book was quite short so there was not a lot of character development, we really only know the characters on a surface level. I would have enjoyed just a little more development with the characters.
Unfortunately I ended up DNFing this book as from the blurb it sounded like it would be more on the creepy/thrillery side and five chapters in, I had only had the romance (which again unfortunately was quite insta-love and not my kind of thing). I just felt this wasn't the book I was expecting and ended up not having an interest in it. I am so sorry!
City girl, Jeanie Ellis takes over her aunt’s Pumpkin Spice Café in small town, Dream Harbor. Local farmer, Logan Anders finds the new girl to be irritatingly upbeat but can’t seem to stay away from her. Will Logan be able to avoid her charm forever? This is book 1 in the Dream Harbor Series.
This book took me about a month and a half to finish 😬. The premise of this book with the Gilmore Girls, small town, coffee vibes is exactly what I want out of a fall read. But I do need something to keep my attention.
In the first half of the book there was a bit of a mystery that was super interesting and kept me reading. Once that fizzled out I didn’t feel there was much holding my attention or making me come back to read. Then in the last 15% we got so much thrown at us. It would’ve been nice to have all that spread out earlier in the book to keep me reading.
The book was told in 3rd person so maybe that contributed to my eh feelings about the story also.
Overall I just felt the book was very anticlimactic. I did a lot of skimming. Loved the fall and small town vibes but needed more of a punch from the storyline. I’m glad others have enjoyed it!
I’d like to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Themes:
* Fall vibes
* Grumpy sunshine
* Small town romance
Well this book was cute. I don’t seem to read many small town romance books but when I do I love them, so I should definitely read more! I really liked Jeanie and how upbeat she always seemed to be. It was quite refreshing. Logan seemed like the perfect man 😍 though I do think towards the end I wasn’t expecting him to say some of the things he did, wasn’t in keeping with how I saw him as a character. But I guess we can all be a pleasant surprise to others 🥵 This book held all the spice and delivered it all at once. Definitely a book I really enjoyed and I will be picking up the next in the series when it is released to find out what happens next in Dream Harbour.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for the opportunity to read this book. I'm a sucker lately for cheesy romances. This time of year always gets me in the feels for them. This book did not disappoint. I recommend checking it out if you are seeking a fall new girl in town falls for the local recently heartbroken boy.
Jeanie gets a lot more than she bargained for when she takes over The Pumpkin Spice Cafe for her aunt. Small town life is very difference from the city but people can be cut-throat there too.
There's the chance of romance but some sabotage too that makes Jeanie reassess her plans to stay ad make a new life for herself.
This is a charming, easy to read book and I will certainly read more of Laura Gilmore's work.
A feel good story of opposites, love, family and of course the vibe of Autumn spice. An entertaining story.
Many thanks to Harpercollins UK and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I ended up DNFing unfortunately. I really liked the banter between the main couple and some of the side characters, but the insta-love is just not my thing. I also didn't realize this book would have an open sex scene in it. Normally when I'm reading a cozy mystery I don't expect any of that to be included, which was really disappointing for this story. The miscommunication was a bit annoying as well and the mystery aspect fell flat. Thank you for the ARC
Such a perfect autumn read. Makes you feel warm and cosy.
Definitely has Gilmore girl vibes. And is grumpy/sunshine which is a plus!
Definitely recommend for people who loves a grumpy/sunshine, small town romance.
This was a nice easy read with cute autumn vibes and a bit of fluff, the grumpy / sunshine trope and fun writing. Not exactly a book that will win literary prizes but I'm sure that is the same for all if not most romance novels. It achieved what it set out to, was fun and had a lovely element of escapism.
I am a huge fan of autumn, pumpkins, cosiness and Gilmore Girls, so of course I was going to pick up this book. I have no idea if Laurie Gilmore is the author’s real name but has there ever been a more fitting name for the author of a book like this?
Jeanie has just inherited her aunt’s cafe in the sleepy town of Dream Harbor and she is ready for a new start. She didn’t bank on meeting a handsome farmer named Logan straightaway but she’s prepared to roll with it, as she navigates her new life of book club gossip, local events and of course, pumpkin spice lattes. But it seems that someone may not be happy that she’s in town.
Jeanie has a touch of Lorelai Gilmore about her and the humour is similar to the show. Mistaking him for an intruder in the middle of the night seems like the kind of meet-cute that Lorelai would have with a guy, so it’s clear where the author’s influences are. I’m not sure it’s quite as polished and addictive as Gilmore Girls but the vibes are certainly there.
Dream Harbor is a quintessential New England small town and of course, I had a map of Stars Hollow in my head throughout my time with this book. I wonder if it perhaps wasn’t quite fair that I am currently in the midst of a Gilmore Girls rewatch and therefore, because it is so fresh in my mind, I couldn’t not make the comparisons. To reiterate, Dream Harbor and Stars Hollow are not the same place. They’re just really really similar!
Jeanie walks into a community of people who have grown up together and who know all of each other’s business. She is immediately bombarded with information about everyone’s relationships and romantic interests and she does her best to fit in. I’m not sure that the lack of difficulty she had with this is entirely realistic (despite all the characters being very welcoming) but it fitted the cosy, romantic feel of the whole story.
Logan is definitely inspired by Luke Danes but for me, he’s actually hotter. I don’t know if I’d have necessarily shipped him with Jeanie, had he had other options. Logan does have close, sibling-like friendships with both Hazel, the bookshop owner and Annie, the baker. His romantic options are limited and I think I’d have really appreciated a love rival for Jeanie. It would have solidified their romance and given me more evidence that they were each other’s best option.
Logan’s farm animals are all named after pop stars and I just found this hysterical. Of course, the alpaca is Harry Styles because with all that fluffy curly hair and cute face, you can see the resemblance, right? This tiny touch was genius!
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe is a cute, cosy, autumn romance. I have seen it being marketed as a cosy mystery, which it isn’t really. There is a very low-key mystery running through it but there’s absolutely no threat or high stakes going on here. The romance gets quite spicy, so that’s something to be aware of, whether you’re into that or not. Overall, it’s a very easy, light-hearted read that is perfect for the cold season.
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe was a cute romance story, perfect for autumn. The small town of Dream Harbour felt cozy and like a kind invitation to the reader to come and relax here. I really appreciated all the talk about pumpkins, halloween and just everything autumn themed!
However, the characters didn’t blow me away or stick with me enough which made it hard for me to really enjoy the romance and root for their love story.
It’s still a decent book with easy to digest writing and a lovely setting
This is a cozy atmosphere to escape to for a while. It's a positive addition to the growing sub-genre of cozy, low-stakes stories that are simply pleasurable to exist within, and it definitely delivers. It was a lovely treat.
