A BLANK of BLANK and BLANK book that honestly the world could've gone without. Stunning cover art though.
This one was a give or take story. I felt like the characters and stuff were great but the pacing of the story was not up to the rest. I liked it but I don't think that I would reread it and I am not sure I would continue the series.
Loved this story. Felt the characters where well thought out and the story progressed well throughout. Thank you for the gifted copy in exchange for a fair review.
I really enjoyed this Red Riding Hood inspired story. There is a great amount of spice for my smut sisters. I enjoyed the back and forth between the characters. I wish we got deeper into the elements outside of the romance, like why the wolves are after the sisters and who they are. But it’s possible this book wanted to be a firm foundation for the relationship and will dive deeper into the other elements in book 2. It’s also crazy to me how one week of the characters knowing each other feels like months. It feels that way for the characters but I also felt that way as a reader. Looking forward to the next one!
I am always down for a good retelling and one for a little red riding hood definitely peaked my interest. I was enjoying this book very much throughout and now I’m on the hunt for more.
I’ve been sleeping on this one! This was such a fun supernatural romance. Clearly we’re getting a couple more books from the series after that ending and I can’t wait.
Ruby is so awesome. Love her fearless independent streak and all the little comments about werewolves being real fulfilling a middle school dream of hers. All too relatable Ruby 😂. Rafe is such a big intimidating looking cinnamon roll of a werewolf. I kinda hate how much his dad messed he and his brothers up and hope they all get some healing and closure by the end of the series.
Overall this gave me some Charmaine Harris vibes in the way that it has some great supe suspense but also is somehow sweet and steamy.
A dark romance retelling of a fairytale. Enjoyed the witches, shape shifters and world. Overall a fun read.
I enjoyed this for what it was but it wasn’t a top read of the year for me. I felt that there was more development to be had in the storyline that we just didn’t get.
While this wasn't anything groundbreaking, it was a fun, easy read that I definitely recommend if you're looking for something that will just be a good time.
Read if you like:
- Dark and twisted fairytale retellings
- Werewolves
- Witches
- Fated mates
- Steamy paranormal romances
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
What happens when little red riding hood falls for the wolf?
A Curse of Blood and Wolves is a dark and slightly erotic fairytale retelling that will turn your idea of the classic on its' head. This book starts out fast, plummeting you into Ruby's, and the wolf she just can't resist, world. This is a quick and fun read for those who like a bit more spice in their fairytales.
Overall, I liked this book. I felt like there were areas where the plot could have been developed a bit more because I really thought with how the story began that this was going to lean more towards dark erotism, but it didn't. I liked what the author did to twist this tale though and set up a world in which we can return for future novels. I do love myself a forbidden, taboo romance!
If you are looking for erotica then this may not be the book for you, While it is a quick read and was enjoyable, it definitely is not for everyone. Make sure to investigate the trigger warnings that the author and publisher have put out, because it does cover some dark and difficult topics.
Ovearll, I would read more by this author and in this world. The characters that she has set up to be in the next books were more likable to me than the main characters in this one. I really appreciated how the author twisted this tale. Those who are looking for a darker, more romantic take on Little Red Riding Hood need not look any further!
It took a little while to get into this but once it got going man did it get going!
There were a few parts where I felt like the actions could have been explored more, or gone further into the world building, but in the grand scheme of the book I found those minor.
The dialogue was really funny. There were a lot of parts where I laughed along with them. The FMC wasn't a damsel in distress which I appreciate. Love me a self sufficient girlie. The spice was definitely spicing 👀
Definitely a solid choice if you're looking for a spicy fantasy that can be read in a day.
A fun, light read which ships you off to another world!
Lots of character development with a forbidden love theme.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
The writing was juvenile, and the plot wasn’t well developed. It is very easy to read through it. The characters fell flat. Overall, this was not for me. The world building felt one dimensional as well; this was smut with some very basic plot, rather than a well-written plot with romance & fantasy elements added to the mix.
I loved this so much! Worldbuilding, tension, pacing, all 10/10, I've already brought this up as a want to my bookclub and everyone I know. Can't wait to read more from Melissa!!
Yet another retelling of a fairy tale and this time we have Red Riding Hood.
Except that this appears to have been written by a teenage girl going through some kind of angst.
The blurb promised so much but failed to deliver.
Very disappointing.
If you're looking for a dark romance retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, "A Curse of Blood and Wolves" is for you. Ruby is an independents woman. Since the death of her parents at 8 years old, she has been the emotional backbone for herself and her sickly older sister. She takes care of everyone and she doesn't need anyone to take care of her; in fact, she prefers to flirt with a bit of danger. When she encounters Rafe, a lone wolf shifter, she ignores any inclination to be afraid and instead leans into her dark attraction. Reed is equally enthralled by Ruby, absolutely unable to resist his bone deep attraction to her. When a mysterious rival wolf pack begins stalking Ruby and her sister, it's up to Rafe to protect the sisters without letting himself get too close, or even worse fall in love.
This book includes:
- brooding semi-immortal werewolf shifters
- dual pov
- seers, nymphs, and witches
- "I'll never be good enough for you" trope
- fated mates
- family trauma and dead parents
- a lil bit of dark romance
- cliffhanger ending
This was a fun read. I really liked Ruby, although Rafe drove me a little crazy with his constant self hating monologues. I devoured this book, and enjoyed it so much. There was a little character building I think was missing, and the story felt a bit superficial at time. But I will still be interested to read Theo's story in book 2. That is, as long as Theo has a better pet name for his love interests than "Brave Girl", that gave me the ICK so hard.
I recommend this book to fans of the Plated Prisoner series and other dark romantasies.
I received this ebook as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Melissa McTernan, HarperCollins UK, and One More Chapter for the opportunity to read and review this book. I was excited to read this because it sounded like a dark, fantastical retelling of little red riding hood. Unfortunately the only thing similar between this story was there was a wolf in both stories. This one suffers from a lack of any kind of explanation to the plot, bland characters and in my opinion doesn’t have any stand out moments.
Up until about the 40% mark I was very intrigued by this story, the author was setting up a great romance, there was intrigue and I liked our characters. Something switched right around then and this book became a wild goose chase of the male love interest going back and forth with his feelings, the plot being a wild goose chase with (even at the end) no answers given, and our characters who only became focused on each other, losing all their personality.
I don’t plan to continue this series, but I would be intrigued to pick up something else by this author, I think if there was a bit less time spent on the romance and a bit more on the fantasy I would have enjoyed it more, or maybe this book just isn’t pitched as what it should be.
An amazing red riding hood-based story. and must I say more WEREWOLVES. As someone writing a werewolf book this one is SO GOOD
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
This was a good book. I believe it had the potential to be amazing, but there was more romance drama than there was an actual plot the whole way through. I would have loved if the author added more to the story she was trying to tell. I wanted more about Ruby and her sisters background, more about all the other characters/creatures that were introduced. It fell short for me unfortunately, but I did love the relationship between Ruby and Rafe. I was just expecting more suspense and more the plot itself.
The writing was okay. I'm not very picky about the writing as long as it's not absolutely horrible. It was hard following who's POV it was at times, it would start as one characters POV and switch the next paragraph. I would have prefered the chapters being one POV and the next another or at least a break in the story to show it has switched POV's. Hopefully the published book remedied that.
I liked this book enough to want to read the next one. It was good, so close to being great. I can't wait for the next one to get more answers. Praying book 2 has more story building than this one.
