nice handbook to start drawing even without much of a basis... like me ^^ easy and fun to use, I recommend it to beginners (and not) to starr/improve your drawing skills

My nine year old really enjoyed following this book.

Lots of cute characters and ideas to draw your favourite pictures.

I love learning new art styles and have completed a couple of courses on Manga so drawing chibis wasn’t a huge leap for me. The simplistic lines which convey such emotion fascinate me. I’m a doodler or sketcher – lots of lines and fixing, rubbing out and returning – but forms like chibis require forethought and flow and it’s a good meditation for me.

Piuuvy is an incredibly talented artist (if you don’t already, follow the art on Instagram) and the characters are gorgeous in the book. I found the instructions a little light though especially for a “beginner’s guide”. The principles at the outset are easier to follow but still take large leaps which my previous art experience filled in. The characters form in even bigger steps missing key things like shading techniques (especially for those not creating it digitally) and page-to-form proportions.

Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed it, I caution anyone picking it up without prior experience, I think you’ll find it frustrating and disappointing. If you are au fait to some extent with drawing forms and have done some manga work before, this won’t be a problem. It’s a three out of five on the enJOYment scale.

Below is my first chibi from the book

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Quartro Publishing Group through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

After a brief introductory mini-lesson on drawing in general, this book dives right in to the specifics of chibi style, including clothing, facial features, hairstyles, and more. The rest of the book are individual characters with step-by-step illustrations. They are all so cute!

I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Great set of explanations for how to draw the Chibi style. I'm useless at art, but even I can make something that looks vaguely like it's supposed to with guides like this. It's certainly not unique (there's plenty of others like this), but if you're looking for one then this would be a great title to buy.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Draw Chibi Style is a perfect beginners guide to drawing in the style of the adorable chibi characters. This book had simple instructions to follow with the perfect amount of information, ensuring the artist doesn't get overwhelmed. I loved having a go at some of these with my ten year old daughter and was really pleased with how easy it was to follow and draw my own. I'm going to get a physical copy of this for my daughter for summer so we can play around with it even more.

a really nice intro to chibi style drawing with some basic instructions about how to give your character nuance

Most of the book is taken up by examples of specific characters, but if you worked through drawing these you'd get a much better feel in how to create your own

I received an advance copy for free from NetGalley, on the expectation that I would provide an honest review.

I loved the style of this! Very cute and creative. The drawings were way to follow and offered simplified steps. Easier for younger children even to use. I felt like I could actually draw in the end!

My 9-year-old daughter loves drawing and was immediately drawn in by the cover of this adorable book. I feel she’s at just the right age to try sketching these characters. The step by step process is straightforward to follow and my daughter has loved flicking through the book deciding which character to copy next. The mermaid is a firm favourite! I would say this book is perfect for ages 8+. A wonderful, unique and well designed book.

A great book to introduce and learn to draw Chibi characters. Easy to follow instructions explain building up the drawing and the correct proportions to use. I would recommend to anyone interested in getting started or progressing Chibi style drawing techniques.

"Draw Chibi Style" is a simple guide that covers basic illustration concepts, making it a good resource for beginners. Divided into two parts, the book covers the fundamental principles of chibi drawing and provides step-by-step tutorials for creating 44 chibi characters in various genres and themes. It's a bit simplistic at times, but if you're looking to improve your chibi drawing abilities, this book is a solid starting point. I can't wait to try some of the tips in the doodles in my journal.

This was really helpful,I like how random the poses were as they gave a lot of variety to use with different characters than just normal poses. Loved the page and steps about drawing and designing eyes as it really helped how to make your character pop.

Such a lovely little book with gorgeous chibi drawings! I wasn’t sure if my daughter (9) would be too young to follow the step-by-steps sufficiently but she surprised me with some lovely copies of her favourites from the book. I especially loved the guides at the beginning which give general advice on drawing (eg proportions, lines of action, expressions etc). Highly recommended for anyone that loves chibi style drawing!

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto publishing for this ARC.

This was such a cute book it had descriptions. How to and the pictures are absolutely beautiful. I think this would be good for someone who starting out to draw cartoon or anime as this is a very simple guide to drawing chibis but for someone who has more experience drawing. This is just a fun little book that can give you a couple of fun ideas if you’re an art block which is what it helped me with and I would buy it for Friend. I would actually highly recommend reading this book. It is simple, but it’s good for filling up your sketchbook for learning the basis of a body and to know how to draw the figure before drawing accessories and how to build on a character.

Amazing writing! However, the digital copy I got didn’t have any illustrations which I feel would carry a bigger part of the reading experience.

Thank you, Pushkin Press, for the advance reading copy.

I love how easy it was to read and follow along in this book. I'm new to drawing and learning to draw; I really want to learn more and work towards becoming a children's book illustrator.

This book covers the bare basics from the sketching process step by step to explaining what a base color is. They provide tons of examples for every section which made the text easier to understand.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this and it's definitely going to be added to my library at home!
