I absolutely loved this Drawing Book!
The tutorials were super easy to understand, and the book is also good for beginners to immerse themselves in the world of chibi characters! I own a few drawing books, mostly for the chibi style, but this is one of my favorites so far. It's not perfect, of course, but it's sufficient and well designed to start with!
I really enjoyed going through this drawing book! It's in full color so you can get a better feel for shading techniques. It also gives you what to do and what NOT to do which I find very helpful. Outside of the basics, it even dives into color theory and other elements a little bit. I also really enjoy the step-by-step guide for some specific chibi characters. Overall, this is a great book for anyone wanting to try out a new art style. I'll absolutely be referring back to this book.
I reviewed this book with my 11 year old daughter that is into anything and everything Asian (especially Japanese) culture. She like that there was more poses, limbs and facial how to's at the beginning. I found it all very cute. I liked the animals at the end of the book most.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Quarto publishing for my copy of Draw Chibi Style A Beginner’s Step-by-Step Guide for Drawing Adorable Minis - 62 Lessons: Basics, Characters, Special Effects by Piuuvy in exchange for an honest review. It publishes June 27, 2023.
I have three budding artists in my house, and they’ve been looking for a good Chibi tutorial. They are very excited about this and I definitely will be buying this for them for gifts!
The shark was by far my favourite! So cute. I have a number of chibi, anime and manga how to drawing books and this is definitely one I would add to the collection. The introduction does a good job of showing the basics of form and drawing, as well as how to interpret the instructions; and the actual characters that are chosen to feature in the book are really cute, depict chibi style, and are not too challenging to draw. I would have liked a bit more variations for the art, but there were enough call out boxes with options to keep me and my kids going for a while with this one.
I also think that if you are just learning, this isn't a bad one to pick up to get the basics. Not quite as much step by step for the actual characters, but if you have some drawing skills, it shouldn't be too hard. There may be slightly better options if you are learning to draw and have chosen chibi as your starting point, but I still think this could work.
