My kids loved this book as I read it for the first time. We made a habit of reading a story every day, but I realized that the option of reading a story in English one evening, and the next evening there will be one in Romanian, it brought a great advantage to my little ones to learn English much easier. So we like this variant and do not miss the opportunity to discover new words and savor each story separately. I truly believe reading to my kids is a wonderful time and a privilegie.
This is a great book to read to your kids, especially when the holiday of Christmas is fast approaching. The author and songwriter, Rory Feek takes children and families on a beloved journey to Christmas past in Once Upon the Very First Christmas. On a picturesque farm, schoolchildren gather their homemade costumes and props and put on a heartwarming Christmas play for the community. As they don halos for the angel choir or round up sheep for the final nativity scene, readers will be immersed in the greatest blessings of Christmas—the gift of Jesus—and be reminded that we can rejoice together in the wonder of the season.
This is a sweet book introducing young readers to the true celebration of Christmas. The artwork in the book is absolutly charming. Once Upon the Very First Christmas is a cute, simple read with adorable, colorfull and amazing illustrations – I appreciated the diversity depicted through them.
Another thing I liked very much was the simple light rhyming prose that tells the story of the Jesus birth. It is short enough to retain a toddler’s short attention span and the simple text is just perfect for beginning readers. Thanks to the wonderful illustrations, children are encouraged to do their own play at home. I simply love this book and my kids the same. I will always recommend it warmly. Parents and families, old and young will enjoy this new book as part of their holiday traditions. This book fit perfectly as a gift for the little ones at this time of Christmas, or for a babyshower and baptisms.

The illustrations are warm and inviting, while the gentle storytelling makes it perfect for sharing the real meaning of Christmas with little ones during the festive season.
Final Thoughts: Once Upon the Very First Christmas is a lovely, faith-filled story ideal for moms looking to share the biblical tale of Christmas with their children. It’s a timeless and heartwarming addition to any holiday tradition.
This is a cute book to celebrate the first Christmas with your little ones! This book is more appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers, but my daughter is 8 and still enjoyed it as a quick bedtime story this holiday season! The illustrations are eye-catching and very bright and beautiful. This would be a perfect book to add to your little ones Christmas collection.

Once Upon the Very First Christmas by Rory Feek is a cute story to introduce young ones to the CHRISTmas story. Once Upon the Very First Christmas focuses on the bullet points of the Christmas story—Mary, Jesus being born, the Shepherds, and Wise Men. I think Once Upon the Very First Christmas would be perfect for any story time setting. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.
Author and Illustrator Rory Feek gives us Once Upon the Very First Christmas, a book that depicts young children acting out the Christmas story in a barn that has been set up as a church. The children play all the roles with adults helping or looking on. Real animals are included in the presentation. The pictures are softly colored and the scenes are filled with a compelling innocence. This is a lovely book for children that have perhaps been performing in their own church pageants or hoping to when they get older. The rhyming text tells the story in a simple and relatble way. This is a warm, comforting book to share with a favorite child or as a family read aloud.

Feek tells the story of Christ's birth in simple language for young readers. The wording takes readers through the journey, the birth and the angels sharing the birth. The artwork is done in a relaxed and relatable style to offer further connections to the text. Readers see children setting up a Christmas pageant and acting out the parts of the Biblical story. A delightful book to add to family collections.
What a sweet book introducing young readers to the true celebration of Christmas! As the story is told, we see the kids getting everything ready for a play in their one-room schoolhouse. The artwork in the book is absolutely charming. This would make a great gift for your little ones this Christmas season.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Thomas Nelson publishing for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book which tells the story of the first Christmas, as the illustrations depict a group of children setting up and performing a Christmas pageant as the book moves on. The story is told clearly using words kids will understand and relate to. The illustrations however are what set this book apart from some of the others of this type, as the second story being told unfolds purely through the pictures as they depict the story of the children setting up for and finally performing their Christmas play. I really liked this aspect of the story and think it will give kids lots to look for and follow along with.
I received an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley, all opinions are my own.
