Charming Tale of Unexpected Love
Henley had an evil cousin who was stealing the money from her and all her female relatives. She needed a hero, so she thought of proposing to her reclusive neighbor. Did she dare?
Cain had scars, both physical and emotional, as many soldiers did. He did not think he could love or find a woman who could love him, but a chance meeting with Henley would change his life. That proposal she was gearing herself to make was not necessary. Instant love, as unbelievable as it seemed, did happen to them. However, there was still that cousin that was a blight on everyone in Henley's family. What would the reclusive duke do for the woman he loved? I enjoyed this charming story and would recommend it to lovers of historical romance.
The Moonstone Duke
By Meara Platt
As always she's able to pull you in to the time and place. From the first page to the last you will spellbound by Moonstone Duke. Full of suspenseful twist and turns, Meara Platt has given readers a book that is well-written, filled with great cast of characters that come off the pages and pull you into this emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end, and with a strong plot that bring this read together perfectly!
I received this book for ARC for an honest review from NetGalley
“Lady Henley, you would be wasting your time trying to fix this on your own. Let me help.”
Y’all! Let me tell you, there's nothing quite like a gallant hero who always comes to the rescue. And let me tell you, Meara Platt's newest gem, "The Moonstone Duke” has a hero who's stolen my heart. I can't get enough of him…he’s positively swoon-worthy and I'm completely head over heels!
I've devoured "Moonstone Duke" not once, but twice, and I can't get enough of these characters. Sure, the storyline may not be totally groundbreaking, but boy, is it delightful! It's charming…romantic…and downright heartwarming. There’s even a bit of intrigue! Every damsel in distress deserves a knight in shining armor, and let me tell you, Cain fits the bill perfectly. He's the epitome of protective and chivalrous and my heart can't help but flutter whenever he goes all protective and what not.
Cain St. Austell, Duke of Malvern, is not your typical Duke. With his rugged good looks, it's no wonder the matchmaking mamas of the ton are determined to make him their son-in-law. But Cain's past war experiences have left him emotionally scarred and unfit for marriage. All he craves is peace and quiet, free from the chaos of courtship... until Lady Hen stumbles onto his estate, injured and in need of aid. In that moment, everything changes. Cain finds himself helplessly falling for her, and there's no turning back.
Lady Henley Killigrew is beautiful. And charming…and willing to do whatever it takes to provide for her two sisters…even asking a man she’s never met to marry her. Cast from her home by the new Earl of Stoke, Hen is determined to see him pay for the crimes against the women of her family. When Hen accidentally wanders on to the estate of the Duke of Malvern, she finds not only a powerful ally but a love so unexpected that it could only be love at first sight. Destined to be together, two beautiful people embark on a journey filled with twists and turns, where healing and happiness await.
I absolutely loved the Moonstone Duke. From the first paragraphs almost to the very end. This book is almost perfect…Almost. My only criticism is the ending. It was a wonderful ending…but felt a bit rushed. That’s okay though. I’m sure to see more of Cain and Hen in the Moonstone Marquess. Phoebe and Cormac’s story is sure to be fantastic!
I loved this book! Lady Henley (Hen) needs help as her current guardian is cheating all the females under his guardianship, which is at least six females.
Cain St. Austell, Duke of Malvern needs help overcoming his post Waterloo PTSD. Hen makes a bold suggestion that they help each other.
I loved Hen and Cain's characters, and there were many great secondary characters as well.
I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the Series.
Hen and Cain are the swooniest couple! When Cain, the Duke of Malvern, comes to Lady Henley's rescue, they immediately experience a connection that carries them through many challenges. As Cain learns to love life again after war, and Hen learns to trust herself and Cain, their romance is engaging to watch. Another amazing Platt romance.
This is the first installment of a wonderful new series by Ms Platt, The Moonstone Landing, and I think it is off to a brilliant start. I never hesitate to pick up a book by her because I am always enchanted her stories. They are always captivating and engaging and pull me in right from the start. This one was no different. Cain, the Duke of Malvern, has returned home from the war a scarred man, both physically and emotionally. The chaos and craziness of London society is too much too handle, and and he needs a quiet place to heal, so he acquires property in the quaint village of Moonstone Landing. After her father's death, Lady Henley and her two sisters are at the mercy of her cousin who has inherited the title and their home. She decides to take her sisters and go to Moonstone Cottage, but she has limited funds and her cousin is keeping a tight reign on her purse strings. She seeks out the help of Cain, and he readily agrees and it doesn't take long for their convenient arrangement to blossom into love.
A magical story that had me captivated all the way through. This was an enchanting start to the series and I look forward to reading more!

Cain and Henley, what sweet characters. Beautiful setting for this story and future stories. Fun story and magical twists. Can’t wait for the next one
this was exactly what I needed! The author takes you into the setting of the historical London Social Season with ease and beauty. I love the romance, the scandal, the plot… Awesome book! Loved it cant read more from Meara Platt
This book reminds me A LOT of buety and the beast. The beast just pretends to be an actually beast. He really is a teddy bear in disguise.
I absolutely adore the way Meara Platt depicts these two characters. The sisters are just as intriguing and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book.
I loved this book! It took me a bit longer to read than others, but it forced me to slow down and really understand the characters. Hen by far has to be my favorite character with how bold yet soft she is with people. I highly recommend reading
"The Moonstone Duke" had its strengths and its weaknesses. I have seem other reviewers describe it as whimsical or magical. I agree (somewhat) with whimsical, liking the myth of the moonstones. I did not find the story magical. Some of that is my own biases - I am not a huge fan of insta-love, and this was the epitome of insta-love - barely 5 minutes in and there comes the marriage proposal! That said, the characters were self-aware of the insta-love in which they found themselves and questioned it frequently.
The FMC, Henley, has a quiet strength. The MMC, Cain, is suffering from what seems to be a mild to medium case of PTSD following experiences in the war. Henley needs help in overcoming an odious and miserly guardian and Cain, feeling the insta-love, agrees to help her by marrying her. After all, no one argues with a duke. The wedding happens quickly and the story turns to overcoming the guardian and Cain's nightmares, which are so bad he refuses to allow Henley to spend full nights with him.
The story is somewhat short on conflict - and sadly also a little short on the romance. There was some decently done steam though not a lot, and the marriage happened so early on and was not unwanted by either, so there was no need for wooing by either party. The story also throws in some rather disturbing plot points without warning - the on-page miscarriage seemed to come out of nowhere and its usage as a plot point to show Cain why he shouldn't leave Hen alone in bed made me more than a little uncomfortable.
Overall not a bad book but not an overly good one either. 3 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.
This was the first book I’ve ever read by Meara Platt. If you like love at first sight, external conflict, and rather flowery prose with very little steam, you might enjoy this. I had some issues with this book, however.
First, the Duke is described as “steamy.” There isn’t much steamy about The Moonstone Duke. There is a sex scene or two after marriage, but they are very brief. I felt that describing the Duke as steamy was rather misleading. I might have used a different descriptor. I was willing to overlook that, and was going to give this book a decent review until we got to about the final 20% of the book.
The MMC has nightmares that the author indicates were caused by his combat experience, to the point that he’s afraid for the FMC to spend the night in his bed. At a certain point, he appears to just set those aside because he needs to be strong for his wife. While PTSD symptoms can resolve on their own, to suggest that a romantic relationship is a mental health cure is unrealistic and irresponsible.
Finally, and perhaps my most serious issue with this book, is that it contains an on-page miscarriage by the FMC with no content warning. It’s also rather poorly handled, in my opinion. Considering how many women have experienced miscarriages (10-20% of all known pregnancies end in miscarriage), I felt that a minimum of a content warning would have been appropriate. I certainly wouldn’t have bothered to request the book on NetGalley, had i known it was in there.
This author’s style is not for me, which is ok. Not every book or author is going to be my cup of tea. The book wasn’t objectively bad until we got to the end. I have never given a one-star review to a book, and I initially just wasn’t going to review it, but the representaron of mental health and the poorly handled on-page miscarriage with no content warning made me want to warn other readers of these potentially harmful issues.
This lovely, well-written romance, with a touch of magic, touched all the right notes for me as Cain, the Duke of Malvern comes to Lady Henley's rescue. What the grumpy Duke does not realize is that he is as much in need of rescuing as Hen. Scarred by war, both physically and emotionally, Cain cannot bear any form of injustice and he is determined to ensure that the ladies who are falling under his protection are shielded from an unscrupulous relative. There is a hint of suspense, but overall this novel is pure romance. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This book met two of my favorite tropes, love at first sight and marriage of convenience (sort of). This is my first book by this author and I immediately bought the next book in this series. I loved it that much! Lady Hen is a jewel and deserved the very best man. Cain was definitely that but had to fight some inner demons to get to his happily ever after. But they fought together and got to what they both wanted and truly deserved, a true and lasting love.
The Moonstone Duke by Meara Platt is part of a newer series and full of whimsy, as are all of Platt’s books. In this case, Cain St Austell, Duke of Malvern, is working with his men on his estate when he spies a woman. Asking his men who she was, he discovered than she was Lady Hen, Henley Killigrew, and she had hurt her hand when she had fallen on the steps leading up from the beach. He tried to put her on his horse, but that didn’t work so he walked with her to the house, where he got bandages and such to treat her hand. Within ten minutes he had asked her to marry him. She thought maybe he was crazy, but she liked him. Maybe she would marry him. He was so easy to be with that she spilled the problem plaguing her and her two sisters. By he time he had returned her home, they had most of a plan. She did not yet know he was a duke. Their guardian was not paying them their monthly allowance, not that of a cousin, and two elderly relatives. The girls contacted the cousin and she arrived shortly to act as Hen’s chaperone when the two of them and Cain traveled to London to sort this all out. It turns out people are much more responsive to a duke than to a twenty-year-old girl.
This entire book seemed magical. It was not too long before Hen fell in with Cain’s plan to marry. She was totally in love. The biggest issue facing them seemed to be his shell shock. He was awoken every night with violent nightmares and so he explained to her that they could not sleep in the same bed, not that he wouldn’t visit her often and that she must promise to lock the door between their rooms when he left her. He couldn’t even promise to live in the same house. She was not happy, but she promised. He took care of the problems with all the trust funds, got a signature to wed and all seemed well. He also visited his best friend, Cormac Stockwell, the Marquess of Burness, who had been at his side during the war and had recently had his arm amputated. He was in a foul humor, feeling sorry for himself, drinking, and not attending to personal hygiene. Cain told him to shape up as tomorrow he was to meet Lady Hen, his betrothed.
He did. This whole book had an underlying feel of whimsy, between the moonstones, and the beach, and their easy romance. I loved every minute of it and look forward to the next.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋
I adore these two main characters, they have so much passion for each other.
The book is very well written and hits all the right spots.
From making you want to sigh at the beauty of the relationship, to being the best description of a heroic Duke I’ve read in a long time.
Lady Henley discovers everything she is looking for in Cain, Duke of Malvern, he strong in mind and body, he is a man who can’t wait to love and care for her.
In return she is giving him a strong minded and self assured love, two new charges and a new enemy in her cousin who is withholding her trust money.
They work so well together and have the best chemistry.
Next up is the Marquess who is Cains best friend , can’t wait.
Wonderful read!!

Great story. The Duke is at his estate having decided to escape from the mariage mart and get some relief from his PTSD? He meets his neighnour, Henley (Odd name). He quickly decides she's the one and they should marry. Hen needs a Duke's protection because her cousin is embezzling her and her sisters trust. The Duke helps out to put the Earl in his place. From a quiet start she becomes confident and a perfect foil for the duke. (Try and get the Novella/Ghost story about her Aunt that's really brilliant)

Lady Henley Killigrew and her sisters are desperate to find a way to wrest control of their trust funds from their unscrupulous cousin. Since they were evicted, by said cousin, from their home, they have lived in their cottage in Moonstone Landing. Cain St. Austell, the Duke of Malvern, returned from the war with physical and emotional scars. He has been unable to find a way to rid himself of the nightmares from the war that plague him. They are taken with each other at first sight. Can Cain help her and her family thwart their cousin’s pilfering? Will Hen help Cain fin some peace from his nightmares? This is a romance with a well-written interesting plot. The story is fast-paced, has a greedy guardian, some suspense, humor, and a fantastic romance. I love the characters, except the cousin, of course. Cain is brooding; Henley is his sunshine. Hen’s sisters are lovely. They add some cheer and humor to the story. This is the first story in the series, although there is a prequel that describes the beginning of the magic of Moonstone Landing. I thoroughly enjoyed the Duke and Lady Henely, and look forward to the next story.
