This is *such* a beautiful book - at so many levels. I want to just say: Go buy it. Right now. No, seriously!
This is a story of a bear who wants to see the whole world. And, armed with her giant bear book of wisdom, she does just that, meeting and helping others along the way. The stop-sneeze tree was my favourite example of this.
The rhyming text is very well-done, and I particularly liked the refrain - which sums up the attitude to life which more of us should have and live by.
The punchline made me smile, along with the knowledge that the bear, like all of us, had finally found a perfect home for herself.
The illustrations are gorgeous and complement the text perfectly. Please buy a copy for the child in your life, along with the copy that you are of course going to need to keep for yourself!
This beautiful rhyming picture book is perfect for sharing the love for books!!!!
I would love to see this in a library or a classroom. I think its perfect for K-1 grade level.
This book is a lovely reminder of the reason we all should work to keep books being published and read by many types of readers (yes! Even bears!) this is a beautiful story to encourage not only the love of reading but also recognizing the versatility of books for everyone!
This delightful book is perfect for elementary school and should be in every children’s library!instills the love of reading and the joy of a library while providing lovely illustrations and rhythmic languaging with a repetitive phrase. Excellent!
Thank you NetGalley and North Star Editions for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
“The world is big, there is much to see”
Stunning illustrations accompanying a beautiful rhyming picture book.
Bear feels she needs more in her life. She leaves her home to go and explore. She helps new friends along the way such as a crab, a crocodile and a lizard.
She finds that books cure all problems! Making new friends, helping to be kind and finding meaning.
Lovely book, great for key stage 1.
I am OBSESSED with the art in this book. The imperfect style that shows the brushstrokes is so beautiful. The writing is so cute. The characters are adorable and lovable. I love that the bear has a love for books. Such a fun journey and a perfect message.
I loved this little story about a book loving bear. The illustrations are gorgeous and the rhyming story is so sweet! The book teaches about helping others, friendship, and helps convey just how wonderful books can be.
This was a very cute book. The story was snappy and the illustrations were beautiful. Charming and heartwarming.
This book is awesome. The illustrations are immaculate. The story is told in the form of a rhyming poem and it is perfect. I loved it so much. I am the bear in the story, or I would love to be. The message of the book is quite nice. It felt like home.
I adored this book, it was short but sweet. It had quite a few lessons for children which is perfect. Highly recommend
The illustrations in "The Bear and Her Book" are exquisite, and mesmerizing, and the story is charming and will resonate with young and older readers. Lovely ending, to find the place where one belongs, and to know that there is always more to learn. Highly recommended. I will be adding this to my children's library for Pre-K. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. #TheBearandHerBook #NetGalley
'The Bear and Her Book' by Frances Tosdevin has really beautiful illustrations. Though, overall the story did not grab me and I'm not sure it would a child either.
Before I say anything else, I must say that the illustrations are lovely. The bear is realistic without being scary, if that makes sense. I mean, how scary can a bear (seemingly a grizzly at that) be with a tote bag strung around its neck carrying her favorite book about how to be wise. It proves quite helpful, I will note. In any case, the artwork showing the bear atop a mountain with what appears to be the aurora behind it is absolutely lovely. I live in Alaska where the aurora dances above me quite often, so I do know auroras. Grin.
The story itself is an easy, lyrical rhyme and takes us through bear's adventures as she seeks to find out where she truly belongs. Her search takes her through everything from a jungle to a desert before she ultimately finds her place. Do I need to tell you books are involved? She uses her book to help others and make friends, one of them a crocodile that even gives her a ride through the watery swamp! I could visualize parents reading this to their children as they look for things in the illustrations.... two bunnies under a crescent moon, for instance.... and talk about why the bear keeps moving on despite making new friends wherever she goes. She makes friends by being a friend, being helpful, so to speak, and children can learn from that aspect of the story. Needless to say, they'll come away with the idea that books are wonderful tools, both for the real world and ones imagination. I nicked the book .5 for not explaining why the humans she encounters show no fear but overall loved this one. 4.5 rounded to 5 stars.
Thanks #NetGalley and #NorthStarEditions - #JollyFishPress for introducing me to this inquisitive bear with a thirst for knowledge and finding her place in the world. Hmm, sounds a bit like some children we all might know.
Whimsical, adventurous, and sweetly rhyming, I think this picture book could easily become a classic. I’m a big fan of this bear with a traveling spirit who realizes there’s an easy way to explore the world around her. A book I would love to have on our shelves!
Bear want to see the world, she takes her book and goes on adventures, helping those in need, finding solutions in her book. Her travels stop when she come upon a bookstore. She can travel to more places.
I really enjoyed this title!
The illustrations are beautiful and I love the primary mantra of the main character.
I would recommend potential changes in some of the rhymes/rhyme schemes. The use of the phrase “poorly” to describe the crab’s claw felt awkward. I would suggest a better adjective to improve the meaning and flow.
The story felt like it was missing something in regard to the general plot but it is still a very enjoyable story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this children’s book ARC opportunity!
This is a sweet story of a bear who goes on adventures in search for more. The bear meets friends she helps along the way and in the end finds where she belongs.
This is beautifully illustrated and shows how wonderful it is to help others along our journey.
Adorable, whimsical, and sweet.
I loved reading this book. It is funny, and reminds me of the game Dix It with the level of art. It's important to me that the books I read to my son be a feast for my eyes, or contain content that I find interesting.
It is also easy for new readers to read.
I would own this book, and keep it on my shelf. I recommend it that much.
I received an electronic ARC from North Star Editions through NetGalley.
Bear longs to see the world and decides to do so. The only thing she brings is her special book - Bear's Big Book of Being Wise. As she travels, she sees so many places and helps new friends in each location. I appreciate the care Bear shows to help other animals get well. The gentle portrayal will open dialogue on nurturing others. The ending is expected as where else would a bear who longs to see/know so much end up.
This was a beautiful book about exploration and boldly desiring more. I thought the message of helping other animals along the way was a wonderful message, and it made her final destination even better. Children will love seeing the adventures of this bear!
