In this novel, we follow Amy, a medical student, on an overnight shift at a psychiatric ward. Throughout the night, people go missing, and weird things happen, leaving her on edge. The plot became unbelievable as the story went on, and while it had a good surprise twist, I just found this title to be okay. If you are looking to try a book from McFadden, I recommend trying Never Lie instead.

I love novels by Freida McFadden and was absolutely thrilled to receive an ARC of Ward D. I loved following along to the very end, as each twist and turn in this novel shocked me.

Highly recommend this one.

As usual with McFadden’s books I had an absolute ball reading this. This author has the gift of written super scary, adrenaline fueled thrillers that are fun to read, because they are quick reads with no boring moment in them!

I was taken aback by the twists which I didn’t see coming! Loved the characters and the setting which lent itself very well for a thriller.

Maybe a little improbable, but when if you want a good escapism read, look no further.

Thank you #netgalley for my Arc!

You can't go wrong with Freida McFadden. Another fast paced twisty thriller. Just when you think you know what's happening or where the story is going - bam - another twist. Well done.

For a psychological thriller, Ward D certainly gives the reader plenty of psychological thrills. The setting is a locked psych ward and it deals a lot of schizophrenia. The characters leave the reader second guessing almost every move which is exciting as it leads to the desire to keep reading. However, the thrills came across as more dramatic than expectant or anxiety inducing which made it lose a little bit of luster for me. Although, the epilogue redeemed itself a bit because now I'm wondering what I could have missed if I knew then what I know now.
Very quick and exciting read.

Ward D by Freida McFadden was such an emotional rollercoaster. I love this genre and sometimes its hard to really find a good thriller that does not follow the pattern of every other thriller. Once you read so many thrillers, sometimes you can guess the ending early on since they get to be predictable and repetitive. Well, let me tell you this is neither. It keeps you guessing and surprised. Middle of the night hospital settings are so scary as it is and this one for sure had me on the edge of my seat! 5 stars!

This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It was the first novel I have read by Freida McFadden but it will certainly not be my last.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Freida does it again!!! I will forever read whatever she puts out. Ward D had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, just as her other books have. Finished this book in a day! Loved it.

"Ward D" by Frieda McFadden is a locked room type mystery, where the protagonist Amy, a medical student, is placed overnight on a locked psychiatric ward. This is her worst nightmare, for personal reasons, and things begin to live up to this fear!

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and I really enjoyed the narrators performance. She kept the different characters voices separated and it was a pleasure to listen to (well possibly with exception to the Spanish accent attempt!).

This was my first of this authors work, and while the book managed to hold my attention throughout, there were several instances where the storyline took unlikely turns and felt too far fetched and implausible. Unfortunately this detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book and made it difficult for me to fully invest in the story.

That said, I did want to keep going and found myself listening for longer periods closer to the end so it did keep me captivated. It was just a very different, over the top style to the books I usually love.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to try this audiobook in return for an honest review.

Ward D by Freida McFadden (Narrated by Leslie Howard)

I was longing for reading (listening to) this book, because it was written by the Twisty Thriller Queen Freida. She did it again after one of her top-rated books "The Housemaid". Freida never disappoints the reader. It is the guarantee of a good psychological thriller.

Amy is a medical student and she has to work overnight in Ward D which is a locked psychiatric ward. She is not willing to stay there because she has a secret that no one should find out. This locked ward scared Amy, not only no phone signal, no connection to internet or you have to remember the doorcode in order to leave the room, it is because of a person she knows there. Not her mentor, not the doctor, not her classmates....

The twists are fantastic. When I read Freida's book, I am always guessing where the twist is, yet, always surprise me. Ward D is way beyond gripping and page-turning. It is one of the best thrillers.

Leslie Howard, the narrator, read this book out vividly. The intonation and even different accents make all the characters unique and easy to follow. Brilliant combination!

Gosh dilly dang.. I really have loved everything this author has written.
This book is a good mix of myster, suspense and horror more than a standard psychological thriller
This book follows Amy who may have a mental illness seeing a little girl who isnt there and aims to become a doctor and help those in need. She is on her psych ward visitation adn has to spend the evening there. Her job is to learn about patients, needs, medications, personalities and how everything is coming together. What does happen is a series of crazy events which makes Amy question her sanity and her safety. Remember all this is a book and not a guide on mental health/disorders/medications etc.. it's completely fiction and does not depict actual and correct medical terminology.

Full of unreliable characters, Ward D leaves you questioning everything even after the end. It is a quick read made up of short chapters that keep you wanting to move on to the next right away. At times it is extremely over the top, and hard to believe the story, but overall it is entertaining. This definitely isn't a book for everyone however. It can seem like it is making light or fun of mental illness at times, and that definitely can be off-putting. The audiobook narrator did a great job. She was believable, and very easy to listen to.

Frieda McFadden books are like popcorn! you can't put them down, they're just easy, quick reads. They may not be super substantive but they sure are fun. I sort of guessed where this one was going pretty early on but it was still a fun ride to get there.

I could not stop listening to this audiobook, Narrator is great, and I listened to it in one sitting. Highly recommended if you're a fan of plot twists. The moment you thought you knew, it turns out to be something else. Mind blowing and I already bought the book too. Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity! Looking forward to the next book from Freida! #WardD #NetGalley

Frieda McFadden’s books always work so well on audio. This was easy to follow and the narrator was great.

As for the story, I didn’t enjoy this like I had expected I would. The main character was annoying and the plot was predictable. I also work in this exact setting on third shift with psychiatric patients so I found it fairly easy to analyze the actions of some of the characters (I do try to remind myself this is a fiction book). To keep this spoiler free I’m going to leave out examples, but the end left me with a lot of questions which I found frustrating.

I didn’t love this, but I didn’t hate it either. I’ll still read anything McFadden writes and I’d still recommend this to McFadden fans especially those who don’t have experience in this setting/field and could enjoy it more!

Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ALC!

The writing wasn’t the greatest and I found the main character dumb . I really was hoping I would love this book because a few people recommend that I read books by this author.

Will I recommend? No..

3 1/2 Solid story with a side of thrill but I did not love the main character hence the lower rating.
Amy Brennan, medical student, is scheduled for her rotation on Ward D--essentially the psychiatric ward and she is extremely apprehensive--partly because her childhood best friend, Jade, was committed when they were seniors.
The story weaves between present day and 8 years earlier, providing a glimpse of the relationship between Amy and Jade.
As Amy's night begins, she is paired with her former love, Cameron, which brings additional emotions. And, surprise, Jade is housed on Ward D. But as the night unfolds, the patients seemingly are becoming unhinged and there are many unexplained events that occur as well. Amy keeps reaching out to the attending doctor, but to no avail. She doesn't know what or who to believe. And things start to get out of hand...but there always seems to be an explanation.
Amy's fear was a bit much and I would expect a medical student to have a better handle on her surroundings.
Nonetheless, I still enjoyed and look forward to more books by this author
