First of all, I love this author and cannot believe this is going to be published.

This book is absolutely HARMFUL and a disgrace against the mental health community. As a board certified psychiatric pharmacist and someone that has bipolar disorder, I cannot believe this is going to published.

The amount of false representations and glorification of violence in mental health disorders is sickening. Only 2% of people with unstable psychiatric disorders are violent.

Psychiatric disorders already have so much stigma especially in the age of gun violence. I will not be reading this author again.

This book was INSANE and so so good. I was hanging on to every word just trying to figure out what was actually going on. I thought the pacing was perfect and when everything comes together in the end it is amazing. Also the very end of the book - just wow. I was not expecting that and I loved it. This was my first book by this author but I've heard so many good things. I will definitely be looking into her other books!

Ward D

Ward D revolves around Amy, a third-year medical student, who has to spend a 12 hour overnight shift in a psych ward. For some reason, she is super anxious and nervous about this and imagines the worst. She is also kind of inappropriate with the language she uses to describe the patients here and I initially didn’t understand why she was behaving like this, as it’s not how I imagined a medical student would conduct themselves, but I knew to have faith in Freida and that if I kept reading, it would eventually make sense.

Sure enough, it totally made sense why Amy had so much trepidation about this evening and once again it was another knockout story from Freida! I really love her books because you literally can’t put them down. They are easy to read, always have fun characters, have a whodunit element which keeps you guessing and lots of fun surprises along the way.

I was approved for an ARC of the audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job. She was really animated and had a unique voice for every character.
PS I still plan to buy the paper back when it comes out so I can add it to my complete Freida collection!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Dreamscape media and Hollywood Upstairs Press for the ARC! Freida hit it out of the ballpark yet again!

Freida McFadden may soon become my favorite author. My wife told me to read The Housemaid and I loved that and the sequel. Ward D I love even more than those.

This is the perfect phycological thriller. It was engaging and fast-paced. I couldn’t stop. I listened to the audiobook for this one and I did not turn it off until I got to the end.

The story follows Amy who is a medical student working in a hospital. She has to do an overnight rotation in the in-house psychiatric ward, Ward D. A lot of strange things happen, people go missing, and Amy is scared that she will not make it through the night.

I can not wait to read more books by McFadden. Do yourself a favor and check out Ward D, you won’t regret it.

Amy Brennan is a trainee doctor, as part of her training she must do an overnight shift in a secure Psychiatric ward, Ward D. Amy's dreading it but can't say why.

The story is told in past and present timelines. The past goes back eight years to her teenage years, hanging out with her best friend and worrying about a Math test. The present is the overnight shift on Ward D, counting down the hours until morning.

I've read all of Freida's previous thrillers, this is the first of her audiobooks I've listened to. I'm one of those geeky super-fans who has watched and listened to the interviews. It's easy to read the books hearing Freida's voice so I was looking forwards to hearing the professional narration.

Leslie Howard's narration is superb, perfectly capturing Amy's various states of mind and her portrayals of the Ward D characters captures just the right amount of crazy edge or potential threat, without ever resorting to parody or exaggeration. I'd very happily listen to more of her audiobooks, whether Freida's books or other authors.

The portrayal of Amy's character is just brilliant. She's anxious to succeed as a doctor, while terrified of Ward D.

The creepy atmosphere in Ward D is superbly crafted, there's a assortment of patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders. Some could be dangerous, can any of them be trusted?

Amy's own mental state is key to her character, deteriorating from a bubbly nervousness to anxiety and paranoia as the night progresses. I don't remember a main character's mental state playing such a big part in any of Freida's books before, it is executed perfectly and enhanced by Leslie Howard's excellent narration.

There's an ever increasing sense of dread and foreboding.

Just when Amy really fears for her safety and sanity, Freida ramps it up some more. There are some big gasp moments. You will not see these twists coming!

This is a brilliant book, superb in character, atmosphere, plot, pacing and twists. Freida does so much with the apparently simple plot, there is great depth. Amy just has to get through one night, but is not prepared for what she'll experience on Ward D.

The past and present threads both hold weight, each adds tension and they weave together tightly.

This is a hugely impressive and deeply psychological thriller. Freida's signature pace, flow and humour mixed in with a creepy atmosphere and one of the best psychologically developed central characters I've read in a long time.

A brilliant book, superbly performed for Audiobook.

I'm in awe.

Ward D tied me up tighter than straitjacket, you'd be mad to miss it.

Ward D is a dual timeline book that mainly only covers one "long night" in the locked hospital inpatient mental health unit called Ward D. Amy Brenner is a medical student dreading working in Ward D due to some past history.. She ends up on an overnight rotation with her ex boyfriend.

Each hour passes slowly as strange things and noises happen in Ward D. Staff and patients start disappearing. Is she next? Freida McFadden's books are always full of twists and turns. Her books are always an immediate buy for me.
5 STAR read for me!

Thanks to #freidamcfadden and #NetGalley for this ARC of #WardD

4.5 stars. This was a wonderfully narrated fast-paced thriller that had me thinking I knew the twist several times. I was always wrong! I love to be surprised while reading. I loved the quick pace and writing style. Not my first Freida McFadden, and definitely not my last! Thank you Net Galley for the advanced audio version in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I knew exactly what I was getting into when reading Freida McFadden, face paced with twists, and it delivered. I enjoyed the explanations of the psychiatric illness. Once again I thought I had it figured out but then again I was wrong. I want to say more but don’t want to give anything away as I feel people will really enjoy this book going in blind. I enjoyed Leslie Howard, the narrator of this audiobook, kept me very interested in what was going to happen next. I will definitely have to listen to more of her narrations. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscapes Media for this ARC.

I've read a ton of Freida McFadden's work so I understand what to expect - a quick read with action and a twist. Ward D provides exactly that, and doesn't require too much effort to follow. This one will be a good choice for a beach read.

The audio book was narrated by Leslie Howard, who appears to be the go-to narrator for McFadden's work even when plot and characters change. Honestly, I'm not a fan of that production decision. It makes sense in a series to always use the same voice as readers connect that voice to that main character, but that's not the case here. This is the third McFadden/Howard collaboration, each standalone novel with a female character of a certain age, and I'm afraid they are starting to sound the same.

At a little over 7 hours, I was sure I knew the twist to come, but I'll admit - nope. Once again, I am the reader and not the writer. I can easily see Ward D being made into a Lifetime movie.

Rounded up to a 4, Ward D releases May 9, 2023.
