I really enjoyed this. It was fast and furious as usual. AND poor Morgan takes her lumps again. I had a strong inkling at who the killer was but at times she made me doubt myself.
There is just something about this series that keeps me clamoring for more every single book. I love how Helen Phifer weaves a creepy tale. And as an American I find how she tells the story fascinating.
I’m looking forward to more. And I hope that Morgan gets time to recover from this one. Perhaps her & Ben need a vacation. 😉
Hold Your Breath is part of a series but it works as a stand alone book. It is a thriller and the writing pushes this book rapidly until the end. Terrific
A detective, Morgan, is called to a lake where she finds Jasmine, a young woman, sitting dead. Murdered.
It turns out Jasmine's father committed suicide at the exact same spot a few months ago.
Morgan sets out to discover the murdered. Along the way her friend Emily is found dead - with the same marks that signified murder in Jasmine's case.
This book is a page turner
Without giving too much away I found this to be a fast paced, absorbing and compelling read. The story flowed really well, there were lots of plot twists to keep my attention. The further I read with this book, the better it got and I enjoyed it more. I think the author has set the bar high here. Book 9 in the series……Will look forward to the next book and hope it is as good as this one. Overall 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. This is a story of mystery and intrigue, a series. Morgan is the main character, and murder finds her, She and her cohorts solve crimes. This talented author has written a novel that is difficult to put down. Enjoy
Detective Morgan Brookes is investigating the murder of a woman who is found dead in her car at Lake Thirlmere. However, it is not immediately clear whether she committed suicide or if it is murder.
Then, her friend Emily is found outside her residence, also in her car.
Morgan is receiving parcels, with creepy masks in the boxes.
What is the connection between the victims and the masks?
Morgan is headstrong and seems to get into trouble as she goes out of her way to ignore well meaning advice from her superiors and friends.
I really enjoy this series. A strong female lead, with a team that works together, apart from Morgan who often follows her gut with disastrous consequences!! But in the end they all get the job done.
I like the characters and I like that they are not all over confident, they have depression and human shortfalls like real life people do.
I read this page turner in two sittings, having started it when I went to bed, and got 50% of the book read, only stopping because my eyes were drooping! It is very fast paced, and a quick read.
Another great novel by Helen Phifer. I can't wait for the next one!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hold Your Breath by H. Phifer, published by Bookouture, is book 9 in the Detective Morgan Brookes Series. Every boook in this series is an interconnected stand-alone.
HYB is one of these rare to me books that had me right from the start, is literally unputdownable.
Detectice Constable Morgan Brooks latest case brings her to frosty Lake Thirlmere, where the body of a young woman is found.
This is a complex, heavy layered, outstanding, fantastic read that I very much enjoyed devouring. A story that left me breathless, that had me right from the start; full of twists and unexpected turns that had me guessing til the very end.
If you're a fan of Mystery Thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end "Hold Your Breath" is the book for you. I read this page-turner in one session.
The intriguing cast of characters added so much depth and complexity to the plot, it made for a truly gripping read.
It felt like I was immersed in the plot of a TV Crime Drama. The way the team worked together seamlessly to unravel the mystery was just expertly crafted and so well done.
I look forward to reading more from this author!
