Review for 'Her Husband’s Secret' by Emily Shiner.

Read and reviewed for Zooloo's Book Tours, NetGalley, Emily Shiner and Inkubator Books.

Publication date 16th May 2023.

This is the third book I have read by this author. I have also read 'The Caretaker', 'You Can't Hide' and 'I'm Following You' which I would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching gorgeous cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated 'Her Husband’s Secret – the stunning psychological thriller perfect for fans of Teresa Driscoll, Freida McFadden, Daniel Hurst.'
I am a MASSIVE fan of Freida McFadden and Daniel Hurst so am looking forward to seeing if it lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Emily and of this is half as good as her 'The Caretaker', 'You Can't Hide' and 'I'm Following You' it is guaranteed to be a page turner!! I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Inkubator Books. I have yet to read a book published by Inkubator Books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 56 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonists are Tina, Eloise and Ricky. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Emily does it yet again!! I genuinely done think she can make a book that I don't love!! Love, love, loved this book!!!! Absolutely gripping edge of your seat page turner!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and put you in the storyline. The cover and synopsis suit the book perfectly.

The storyline was captivating and addictive from the first page until the last and I was completely invested in it. It was absolutely rammed full of lies, secrets, tension, twists, suspense and everything you could ask for in a page turning psychological thriller. I just could not put this book down from the first page to the last. I lost count of the amount of times I promised myself one more chapter but that one finished in a way I just HAD to know what would happen next so I said just more and this went on and on until I ended up finishing it in one sitting!!! Eloise discovers that her husband Jared has been having an affair with a former bartender called Tina and even fathered her son Luke. However Jared had given Tina false details including a false name and hadn't given any contact details so Tina couldn't tell him about Luke. Eloise leaves Jared and gets in touch with her cousin Ricky and together they come up with a plan to get revenge to get Tina and Jared together, kill Jared and frame Tina for it leaving her able to get Jared's money. What she doesn't take into account is how Ricky may start getting feelings for Tina which become obsessive. Ricky breaks off from Eloise's plan and comes up with his own. What will Ricky do now? Has Eloise put herself in danger? It was absolutely ram packed with mystery, revenge, secrets, deceipt, obsession, consequences, tension, suspense, betrayal, and absolutely everything you could ask for in a psychological thriller. I absolutely love Emily's books and am guaranteed to be shocked every time I pick one up which is not an easy feat considering how many books I read a year so a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Emily!!! One of the things I love about her books is that they can also be quite thought provoking and always end with MASSIVE BOMBSHELLS that I absolutely love and never do see coming. Emily's evocative writing drags you deep into the storyline from the first sentence to the very last and will keep you up until the very last word! THAT ladies and gentleman is a true sign of an absolute must read. I absolutely loved the ending which was definitely an unexpected twist which is just one of the reasons I love Emily's books, she manages to get me every single time!! I've said it before about Emily's books and I shall say it again!! I would absolutely LOVE to see this turned into a movie and would wait up all night to get tickets to watch it!!

I hope your busy writing your next book Emily as I just cannot wait to see what bombshell twist and explosive storyline you have up your sleeve for us next!!!!

Do not start this book until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in them throughout. I love the fact that we got to see what was happening from the points of view from all of the three main characters Eloise, Tina and Ricky and to know why they were doing what they were and how they were feeling throughout. Emily weaves their chapters together with perfect timing until it all comes together with an explosive BANG!! It also explains absolutely everything which leaves no question unanswered at the end which is a pet hate of mine!! This also really helps the reader understand them more making them more realistic to the reader. My heart went out to Ricky who definitely needed help after suffering with a psychotic breakdown and I hated the way Eloise was using him. I definitely wasn't a fan of hers and one of my favourite words Karma is the best way to explain what happens. However, I also felt sorry for Tina for what both Eloise and Ricky was putting her through when Jared was the one on the wrong!! All of the characters were multi layered with complex personalities which definitely made them all the more interesting to read about!!! Unfortunately, I really can not say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. You will just have to pick up your copy to find out who is right, who was wrong and what happens to them all and trust me you will not regret it!!! Regardless of what I thought about who, each character worked perfectly to make this page turning psychological thriller!!!

Congratulations Emily on yet ANOTHER huge success. This is why you are in my favourite 5 authors list!! Here's to your next success 🥂!!

Emily Shiner is one of my favorites! This is a great book! It started out a little predictable but I was not disappointed. I had no clue the lengths that Elosie would go to punish her husband for his transgressions. It had a lot of unpredictable turns and kept me entertained for hours. I always think I know where the book is going with Ms. Shiner but she surprises me every time!

Tina has a 3-year-old son, Luke. She lives with Paula. They're looking for a roommate. It becomes Ricky. A very dark dude. I was deeply shocked when he started listing facts about Tina's life. Like her, I was very scared. Is he her stalker? You will find out by reading a book called "Her husband's secret". Eloise is another character. She is married to Jared. It works professionally. She has ambitious plans all the time. She takes revenge on her husband. What did he do to her? A very interesting and at the same time dark psychological thriller. It keeps you hooked from the very beginning. Fast-paced action with amazing twists makes this book simply impossible to put down on the shelf. I am thrilled with its story. I read every page with excitement. There are themes of betrayal, hatred, revenge and death. Are you curious to know all the secrets of our characters? Get ready for dangerous driving. I recommend.

Her Husband's Secret is about a Real Estate Agent, Eloise, who finds out about a secret that her husband, Jared, kept from her. She is out for revenge and will stop at nothing to get what she wants, even if it puts others at risk.

I liked the idea for this book, though unfortunately I found the plot very messy. There were many interactions between Eloise and her cousin Ricky that I would have liked to see a little more depth to. I felt there was background information missing from "the plan" that I would have liked explained, and much of the timeline felt very rushed. From the time Ricky moved into the shared apartment with Tina, until the time she decided to move out only seemed like a couple days.. and then her approval for the home was another day or so? It just didn't make sense or seem plausible in the slightest. The character of Ricky I felt was described well, I found myself cringing with disgust every time I was reading about him, but every other character felt very surface-level. I felt the best part of this book was the ending, where karma struck Eloise in the most perfect way, with her getting nothing that she wanted, and instead all of Jared's assets going to his son Luke. Because of the ending alone, I have raised this review from one to two-stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This affirms a women scorned is not a good thing. Told mainly from Eloise and Tina's point of view . The plot centres on an elaborate revenge plan after cheating is discovered. The plan is complicated and the more you rely on others the more it could go wrong.

The opening chapters were a good hook in . The elaborate plot was unbelievable in places and the twists were good but i gueesed the ending early on. The characters were developed but as it went ott i felt the character of Ricky needed more background and how the affair was discovered was not given the right reveal and this could have enhanced my enjoyment.
It was a good solid 4 star read well worth your time but be prepared for unbelievably far fetched twists.
Thank you netgallery for my arc

Her Husband's Secret is a solid suspense story by Emily Shiner. The basic concept of the story is a familiar one, but the writer definitely has solid storytelling skills. For me, it was a bit slow to catch my interest, and the ending felt rushed. However, the story will appeal to readers who enjoy betrayal and revenge stories.

*I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Her husband’s secret by Emily Shiner.
When Eloise discovers her husband Jared has fathered a son with another woman, Tina, there’s no way she’s forgiving him. But divorce will leave her with nothing, thanks to a prenup.Instead, she takes her time plotting a murderous revenge with the help of her loyal cousin Ricky. Her plan is simple – she’ll kill Jared and set Tina up to take the fall.
I did enjoy this book. Twisty and gripping. Ricky was creepy. I didn't trust him. I didn't see that coming. 5*.

This was an ok read, it I found the plot to be convoluted and unrealistic. It centers on Eloise, who finds out her husband had an affair and comes up with a revenge plot that will leave him dead and her with all of his money. We also get chapters told from the POV of Tina, with whom he had the affair, who thinks Eloise is her friend.

The pacing of the book is a little slow with some repetitiveness, but it’s easy to read. It’s clear that Eloise is a horrible person but the author clearly intends the readers to see her as a villain. My major issue is that the plot she comes up with is just so convoluted and I kept thinking that there HAD to be an easier way to get revenge than go through all of that. Also, no one would have ever instilled someone like Ricky as a major part of their plan; Ricky clearly had some kind of sever mental disability. There was no real plot twist in the book, though the ending provided a bit of a surprise and was satisfying overall.

At the end of the day, this was an interesting read but I kept getting distracted from the story due to the reasons mentioned above. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a huge fan of thrillers, and especially domestic thrillers, but when you read a lot of them, you start to be a bit more critical of some plots, some author's writing styles, etc. I am happy to say that I absolutely loved the plot of this one as well as the way the author kept me tuned in and turning the pages as fast as I possibly could! I was a big fan of the revenge aspect of this book and all the twists and turns that come along with that. Overall, this was a very entertaining read and I enjoyed it a lot. I hope others like it as well.

Revenge! This was delicious and compelling. It kept me on the edge of my seat with a mischievous grin from start to finish. The ending was completely unexpected.

Her Husband’s Secret, by Emily Shiner

An intense and compelling page-turner!

When Eloise discovers her husband has fathered a child with another woman, Tina, she creates a perfect revenge plan.

Kill him, set up the other woman to take the fall and inherit his money. It should have been so simple, but Eloise enlisted the help of her unstable and creepy cousin, Ricky, and didn’t bank on him becoming obsessed with Tina.

I really liked the sinister tone of the book, it’s well-paced and very intense when Eloise’s plan starts to implode.

4.5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

This was a quick read.

Eloise’s husband had an affair and Eloise knows about it. Does he know she knows? Eloise does not think he does and plots to destroy him and take everything he has.

Enter the woman he had an affair with. She doesn’t know much, including the man she had an affair with name.

Eloise puts a dangerous plan in motion and anytime there is danger things can go wrong.

I never saw the ending coming…..

Emily Shiner, the queen of revenge plots, returns following You Can't Hide (5 stars) with her latest knockout, highly addictive thriller, HER HUSBAND'S SECRET. A revenge plan goes wrong in this dangerous twisted game. Who will come out standing in this intense competition?

Ricky is one of the creepiest characters you will ever meet! Superb! A fast-paced, surprise-packed treat.

Great Characters!
Jared: A wealthy cheating husband.
Eloise: Realtor. A vengeful, greedy wife.
Ricky: Eloise's unhinged, creepy, delusional—not-so-bright cousin.
Tina: Single great mom. Works at a daycare—sweet, poor, naïve.
Luke: Her adorable three-year-old son.

Eloise is a scheming wife. Her husband, Jared, owns a large PR firm. They live in a mega house, and she has everything anyone would want. Eloise is a successful realtor and sells million-dollar homes. Her husband finances her projects and her wardrobe. But she does not need to work. She is glamorous but grew up poor.

But he was unfaithful, and he must pay.

Eloise has a PLAN. When she married Jared, she had to sign a prenup. She knows he cheated years ago. Ricky, her crazy cousin, sent her photos of a woman who used to work as a bartender and her husband kissing. This went on for months until he ended it. He does not know she knows.

They quit seeing each other years ago, but Eloise suspects Tina's son is Jared's but he does not know. Eloise and Jared were not able to have children.

Unlike most wives, she WANTS to put her husband and Tina together to reconnect them. She wants people to see them together to help her plot. The only way she will get Jared's money is— if he is DEAD.

So her PLAN is for Ricky, her crazy cousin, to kill Jared and set up Tina to take the fall. Then Eloise will get the money.

She knows Tina did not know Jared was married when she was seeing him, and he left her and even gave her a fake name. Eloise does not care. She wants Jared's money. The rest is collateral damage.

Eloise's manipulation begins with a new program for first-time homeowners: single moms, vets, and those wanting to get out of renting with creative financing.

She has one person in mind—Tina.

Tina currently rents a low-end apartment with her roommate Paula. However, they will have to get a new renter for the third bedroom, and Luke, her three-year son, has to start sleeping in her room. She wants a better life for her son. But her daycare salary is not enough.

Of course, Eloise plans it and gives Ricky (mostly strung out on drugs or alcohol) enough money to be their new tenant. He moves in, and he is so CREEPY. He is obsessed with Tina. He wants Tina for himself. But he must follow the plan per his cousin, Eloise. Tina is afraid of him, and rightly so—a stalker.

Tina wants out of the apartment and away from Ricky. Eloise knows she goes to the library, plants fliers there, and tells all the librarians and businesses about her new plan.

She, of course, pays a hefty down payment herself and meets Tina like she is her best friend and sells her the house directly across from hers. Convenient, right?

Eloise plays the friendly neighbor and BFF, sending her husband to help her move. Even gives her her husband's business card—a dinner out, etc. Of course, he is shocked, and so is Tina. They do not let on like they know one another. How is this happening?

Eloise keeps putting them together. She senses Jared may know this is his son since he looks like him. Eloise continues to manipulate and orders the DNA test to make sure. But when she learns Jared had an appointment with his attorney, she knows they must put the plan into motion NOW.

This is where the book picks up speed. INTENSE! Ricky becomes further unglued between Eloise paying him money and his conflicting obsession with Tina. He wants to be with Tina. She has no clue Ricky is Eloise's cousin.

Do not expect it to go smoothly if you hire someone like delusional crazy Ricky (that is strung out on drugs or drunk) to kill someone. Eloise also makes a mistake in her plan and does not count on Ricky losing it.

Who will die?
Who will be charged?
Who will get the money in the end?

Told from POVs: Eloise, Tina, and Ricky.

HER HUSBAND'S SECRET is a creepy, spine-tingling, utterly addictive tale of obsession/revenge domestic suspense mixed with dark, twisted humor! Do not miss this one.

Again Shiner is on FIRE, once again. Highly creative, like nothing I have read. I LOVED THIS BOOK!

OMG! Shiner gets the award for creating the most unhinged, CREEPY, delusional, and funniest character ever—RICKY! His mind?? Man, she is imaginative. I was holding my breath to see what would pop up in his mind next! I am still laughing. The Clorox was hilarious.

I read a lot of thrillers, and they must stand out to get 5 Stars. I have read 148 books YTD May-(primarily thrillers), and trust me, HER HUSBAND'S SECRET is STAND OUT! So much better than expected—not the typical love triangle. I got no sleep until I finished this book, dying to see how it would turn out—I loved the satisfying conclusion.

Tense and twisty, you will read this in ONE sitting! For fans of authors Kaira Rouda, Daniel Hurst, and Freida McFadden.

Great characterization! I loved Tina and Luke. You will sympathize with them. Eloise was sneaky and manipulative. Ricky was so creepy and scary! Jared is not so nice, but he does the right thing in the end.

HER HUSBAND'S SECRET will have you guessing until the final page is turned. A perfect beach read. Highly recommend it for those who enjoy dark, twisted humor mixed with your domestic thrillers. If you have not read her books, get started—loving this NC author! An auto-read author.

Eloise is furious when she discovers her husband Jared had an affair and had ended up with a son. Eloise has decided there is no chance she will ever forgive him nor Tina the woman he had an affair with.

Eloise comes up with a plan and recruits her cousin Rickey to help her. She asks Rickey to keep an eye on Tina whilst she comes up with a plan to push Jared and Tina together to try and get old sparks lighting again.

In order to get “what she deserves” Eloise knows that her husband Jared has to die. Sadly for Eloise a divorce from her filthy rich husband will leave her with absolutely nothing thanks to a prenup she signed years ago when they were to be married. Eloise comes up with a clever and murderous plan which she knows she can pull off with the help of her cousin however Eloise doesn’t bank on Rickey also falling in love with Tina, and soon Eloise finds everything is spieling out of her control much faster than she could have imagined.

I really enjoyed reading her husbands secret by Emily Shiner and I will certainly be looking out for more books written by this author as this was my first and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the twists and turns that took place throughout this book, the characters were easy enough to like and to keep up with. The only thing i did find was at times it wasn’t quite as fast paced as I like, but still I did enjoy it and I’d certainly recommend this book to other readers.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.
