A tale most mothers could relate to, and I certainly did, before becoming a pro at motherhood. This comic book puts a light and hilarious spin on motherhood, even though it’s a serious business.
I absolutely loved this!
It was SO relatable!
Being a first time mum is so hard!
This book made me feel a little more normal and a little less alone!
It was brutally honest and incredibly funny!
All the stars!!!
This book had me rolling laughing in some parts. Even though I'm not a parent, I have friends and family who have kids that act just like the children cats in this book. The graphics were amazing. The little chapter intros where Chesca talked about home life was interesting and made it to where it wasn't a full graphic/comic book. I really want to read more from Chesca.
I've loved these comics for a while, and they're only better with added commentary and packaged all together! A very honest and very funny look at parenting. My very favorite ones are when the differences between how actual animals raise their young is used for comedic effect, and to underline how no two parenting experiences are exactly the same.
Parenting is hard, kids are just never what we expect, they alternate between amazing, impossible, exhausting, unpredictable, totally embarrassing, heart-melting, geniuses, diabolical, incredibly astute, insane... and that is a serious challenge. I saw my life so many times in those pages, there was a lot to laugh about and I really appreciated the genuine voice of Chesca. I was familiar with some of the strips already, which I'd read online, but it was really nice to have all of her work in one place and see some new comics. Definitely recommend if you have the "creative" kid, or the overly curious one, or the ones with ADHD. It's good to have a laugh, because we try so hard for such hard fails sometimes! and sure it does create such amazing memories... but it's also a little hard.
A fun comic collection about—you guessed it—parenting. Some about realistic situation, some probably INSPIRED by real events but totally imaginary. Recommended for parents who need a light reading, but still insightful for non-parents.
I received an e-arc of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'd never heard of Litterbox Comics before reading this book - though I tend to enjoy the comic collections published by Andrews McMeel so I was excited to read this one.
As I feel about many Andrews McMeel published collections, this collection feels very much like a collection of comics originally written for social media. The comics themselves are fun, and the art style is very cool. - I enjoyed the animal character representations, showing both the real and the fictionalized aspects of parenthood. I don't necessarily relate to the collection as I am not a parent, but I liked the humor and thought it was a fun collection.
After reading this hilarious book on parenting, I made a list of all my friends dealing with the same scenarios and sharing similar funny stories about their children's hijinks that I need to buy this book for. I am not a parents, but greatly enjoyed this easy-to-read comic that had me giggling and reminiscing to my own craziness as a kid....my parents were so patient. These slice-of-life scenarios have elements anyone can connect to from feeling hangry, being a picky eater, children learning cuss words, and a whole host of other oddball moments. I like that the author gives a variety of animal characteristics to her family and characters that adds a different level of humor and creative way to see difficulties of raising children. Colorful images, fun facial expressions, pop culture references, and a whole lot of reliability make this a comic everyone should read and can enjoy!
A very cute collection of comics about parenthood from 1st to 2nd baby. Not being a parent, I didn't get all the references but I did learn I'm happy to not be a parent. Lol
Thanks to @netgalley for the chance to read this graphic novel in exchange fory honest and unbiased opinion.
I laughed so hard at basically all of this. As a geeky parent with a very our there child, this is basically my life. Parenting is definitely weird, and this did a wonderful job of capturing that - in cat form!
Sidebar, bless this book for all the geeky things. I was very amused by a number of them (namely the master sword being used as a pew pew, although all of them were great.)
Definitely a should read if you're a parent, it'll make you giggle, and maybe even a read if you're debating kids. It's a good way to see some good and some bad types of things you may run into.
Thank you, Andrews McMeel Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
This comic/graphic novel is such a fun read to the readers like me but we can actually know the dilemma of parenting small kids/ the dilemma of having the first kid.
This is such a good read more so because of the fun illustrations and art sequence style.
I would say the collection is quite honest and explores well the topic of parenting.
OMG, every new parent, old parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle... need to read this book. It is hilarious and so true.
Absolutely adorable, if you like the webcomic you'll love this. A great gift for an expecting parent, or someone who works with kids.
Review to come to blog/goodreads/etc. early July.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I have been following Chesca/Litterbox's comics for a long while now so imagine my delight that her comics are getting bundled into a book! I just adore it that more and more comics online are getting bundled into books!
And for most I recognised all the comics in the book. From comics with her firstborn to comics with both kids. About gaming, cursing, friends, and defending yourself. To figuring out what the best order is for games and movies so they can understand why mom/dad are hyped and also fall in love with it. To losing your kids in the supermarket... but there is a way to find them again. XD There is a lot of humour in these comics and I just kept laughing. I loved reading the ones I already knew and was happy to also discover some that I either hadn't seen or that I have forgotten because it has been a while.
But, and something I absolutely loved, the fact that there are also bonus things. Like Chesca talking about her family and her kids, about parenting, I really loved those short bits of texts between the comics. Plus, I also love the animated pages, even if they don't work for an online copy. And I liked that bingo chart!
I so love the style of these comics and I love seeing how much it grew. I remember that it did, but seeing old and new in one book really shows it.
All in all, if you like books about parenting combining it with fun comics and humour, this is your book! Be sure to check it out!
This was so funny and relatable. I loved every second of it. Also, the book has recent references, stickers at the end, and the beginning of chapters have an "interactive" part. I am looking forward to all the new content there will be.
I have been following these comics on Instagram for a long while now, but being able to see some of them in one book was an amazing experience. I laughed out loud, snorted too many times (causing my own cats to run off) and smiled when things were so relatable. I don't have children myself but I do work with them and I recognised so many things these cats did. I can fully imagine the cats at daycare doing the same crazy things. There were even some scenes with stuff I was guilty of doing when I was a child myself. I got angry at Dora the Explorer for fully ignoring my answer to her question just like Cooper got angry as well.
The comics are divided by subjects, each new subject gets introduced by Chesca Hause which gave the reader an insight in how these comics once came to live. Therefore this book was more than some funny comics. It gave the reader a backstory, an insight in parenthood. Apart from the comics there were also plenty of interactive things to do such as the flippers and making a drawing with Cooper. Chesca House nailed it once again!
I was a little bit bummed to see a few Harry Potter references. Not a big fan of giving JKR a bigger platform...
I've followed this account on Instagram for ageeees and it's one of my favorites to see pop up. This was such a cute, funny bind up and I can see this easily becoming one of my yearly revisits for a laugh. Truly, is there anything better than relatable comics in cat form about the craziness of life? I don't think so. Suffice it to say if I could give this more stars, I would. It's such a nice palette cleanser, especially after some of the other stuff I read on the daily.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
While I wouldn't recommend this to my students I would 1000% recommend it to their parents. This is bang on and so hilarious! I have two copies pre-ordered to give as gifts to mothers I know. I never thought a comic with cats would make me feel so seen; but here we are.
Parenting is weird, and why not make it funny with cats... I am totally here for it.
I loved seeing the collection of comics I saw online. Maybe they were comical & some show the real-life cringe I see my friend -parents go through and I am not aware of haha
Thanks to NetGalley & Andrew McMeel Publishing for this advance copy of "Parenting Is Weird: Tails from the Litterbox" in exchange for a fair review!
This is a collection of short comics about an anthropomorphic cat family. Some are a couple of panels, and others can go up to two pages in length, The layout of the panels is good too. I am not a parent, but I know a lot of parents and have been the inquisitive child myself once upon a time, and I also know what it's like to be a wiped out adult. The mum and the older child were both equally relatable to me, and I found myself laughing quite a lot reading these comics. I like the style, and I liked the realistic everyday situations that parents can find themselves in. All in all, I do recommend this comic for adults, I'm not sure kids could quite get all of the humour in it.
