I can't believe I never sent in the review for this! I remember it being a really lovely collection of stories and LOOK at that cover!
I enjoyed this comics anthology. It was a great way to read about the trans and/or non-binary experience from people who are trans and/or non-binary.

This is a fantastic collection of trans and nonbinary comics. I appreciated the wide variety of experiences portrayed and would definitely recommend this title either to someone looking to feel seen, or to someone looking to understand a different perspective.
I think this book is an absolute lifesaver for those discovering their identities like the characters in the book do. Moreover is enjoyable even if these events don't specifically affect yourself because empathy is a universal language.
The only thing that made me feel a little bored after sometime was the fact there were too many stories with too many different art styles (keep in mind this is an anthology where several artist tell their own stories): this meant there was too much rush to cover as many stories as possible and without leaving the reader to get used to an art style that was already time to step on the other story.
Obviously it's simply a consideration about editing and art style, nothing to do with the content of each story <3
It was great to see non-binary voices represented in different ways, when it is so rare to hear enby voices in the first place.
I valued the exploration of gender identity in this anthology, but the varied art styles and stories meant that some resonated more with me than others.
A fabulous collection of trans and gender non confirming stories. There’s help, hurt, joy, and sadness. I would recommend this for high school or older.
I absolutely loved all of the different stories that were included in this comic book/graphic novel. I did feel that some of the stories were very similar to each other, which made the book seem a little repetitive. I would still recommend this book to people as it really opens your eyes to what some people are going through.
I was given a copy of this graphic novel/comic through netgalley in exchange for my honest review
I loved this anthology. I believe you can learn empathy for others through the sharing of stories. This collection has contributors from a wide array of races, ages, and gender experiences. Each creator had charming art styles, and their voices came through effectively in just a few panels. The title and cover fit the theme perfectly, and has that visual appeal that makes you want to pick it up.
I'd recommend to everyone. As I said at the beginning, sharing stories and listening to stories is the way to understand each other. It's when we don't listen, refuse to listen, that we cause harm to one another. I hope everyone continues to share their stories and their journeys.
"The Out Side" is an equal blend of encouragement, comfort, and affirmation, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the trans and nonbinary community. It aims to inspire those grappling with their own identities and to educate those seeking deeper understanding. It is a sweet anthology perfect for anyone who wants to read more about the trans experience.
This is a wonderful collection of different experiences by Trans and Nonbinary authors. I loved the variety and honesty of the experiences presented here.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
The Out Side: Trans and Nonbinary Comics by The Kao, David Daneman and Min Christensen is a wonderful graphic novel! Serving as an anthology of voices and insight, it provides various stories and messages from different people with different life experiences. This is so important because each person has a different journey in their identity and this book holds space for that.
I loved how each storyteller had their own style, voice, and POV--it clearly came through. Citing the artists/storytellers also provided a really neat opportunity to find creatives to follow and support. The Outside depicts the full gamut of human emotion, as rich and vibrant as the spectrum of folks amongst us.
There is so much one can learn from this book whether you're a member of the community, an ally, a member of a support system, or starting the process to do so.
The more we learn, the more we know, the more we grow. This book demonstrates how accessibility to learning how other people navigate the world can create a more compassionate world.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to review this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The Out Side is a necessary comic, one that talks about what it means to be trans or nonbinary. As a cis person, I am not familiar with the experience on a personal level. Yet as trans rights are under attacks, we need more of these stories.
One person finds out their grandfather wore bras in private. Another talks about how it hurts to be called "ma'am" while back home. Each time, a new voice adds to the mix of stories that are getting suppressed in many states. The art also shows a wide spectrum of style, with bright cheery pieces to go with moody ones. And I enjoyed every one.
A wonderful way to explore how important acceptance and variety in gender identity is. I loved the diversity of styles and experiences, and the truth and courage of the contributors in sharing their stories.
This is a fabulous compilation of short stories by trans and nonbinary authors and artists. Many perspectives are shared spanning a range of emotion and experiences, a good glimpse into the diverseness that is encompassed by trans and nonbinary folx.

Through the powerful medium of comics, The Kao, David Daneman, and Min Christensen provide a platform for authentic storytelling that explores identity, challenges societal norms, and celebrates the diversity of the trans and nonbinary experience. With a compelling blend of art and narrative, this collection is a poignant and affirming contribution to the representation of marginalized voices in the comic book world.
This was perfect! I love the different stories involved. It really showed the diversity of what it's like to be trans and/or non binary. It's sweet and charming and the art was so cute.
Its cute, colorful, and excellently written. Middle grade readers will learn a lot about trans and nonbinary identities while enjoy adorable stories,
Gotta give it up to this book—it helped me mentally work through some gender stuff. Could I be non-binary? It’s more likely than you think!
I liked the diverse stories and hearing how various people worked through their own genders and sexuality. Gender is so beautifully fluid.
