This is the sixth book in the DCI Rachel King series by author Helen H Durrant but works as a standalone. Lost Victim by Helen H. Durrant is a solid crime thriller that is a very good read.

Detective Rachel King is back at work after a three month break and is struggling with the pressures of been a single mother, the pressures of her job and personal life.

The murder of an elderly woman, Mary Dunn, is a gruesome sight that quickly becomes a mystery. Mary was a beloved member of her community, so the motive for her murder is unclear. However, forensic evidence links the murder to a notorious serial killer, the Slasher, who was thought to be dead.

The novel is a fast paced crime thriller with well-crafted characters and a strong sense of tension. Rachel King is a relatable and compelling character, and her struggles to balance her personal life with her job make her all the more human and sympathetic.

The plot of Lost Victim is full of twists and turns, with plenty of red herrings that will keep readers guessing until the very end. The author does an excellent job of weaving together different storylines and subplots to create a cohesive and satisfying narrative.

This is an excellent choice for readers looking for a fast paced crime thriller with good strong characters.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Joffe Books for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Another wonderful novel by Helen Durrant starring Detective Rachel King investigating the death of an old lady named Mary Dunn found on the altar of a church with a white rose on her chest. The reader is kept guessing until the final pages as to the identity of the killer. Thoroughly enjoyed this latest book in the series and can't wait for the next one!

Another fantastic read!
The DCI has his head in concrete and doesn't take the team seriously because he "knows better" than they about what's really going on in the streets. Meanwhile the team finds bodies ands other things that they'd rather not have in the drug world and at the village church(?!). A real nail biter at times, and DS King has problems in her personal life as well. I haven't actually read anything from this series in a couple of years (see TBR pile) but that didn't matter in terms of following along and enjoying the ride. Loved it!
I requested and received an EARC from Jaffe Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

I already love this series, and this book did not disappoint. Apart from the great plotting and character development, I really felt the tiredness and insecurity of a single working parent trying to keep the job and the home together. Can’t wait for the next book.

Complex and addictive! Murder, drug dealing, kidnapping, red herrings at every turn and no way you will put it down until the end. Great series, and also works as stand alone.

I loved that it has short chapters and I loved when I read the book it had an accent to it which made it interesting. It had some interesting plot twist to it which made me want to keep reading it. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves murder mystery books.

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the copy of Lost Victim by Helen H. Durrant. If I had realized this was book 6 in a series I would have thought twice about starting it because I haven’t read any of the previous books and this one would have worked better if I had known the characters better. The writing never drew me in and it felt like a police procedural/cozy mystery instead of the thriller I was expecting. If you have read the other books in this series and enjoyed them I’m sure you will enjoy this one too. It was good, not great for me and I should have looked into the series more before requesting it.

This is one heck of a thriller! It reads like cozy crime meets gangland killings. I liked how it all cleverly intertwines and comes together. It's intricately plotted with non stop action, twists, turns and surprises, which makes it all so utterly gripping.
I had to empathise with Detective Rachel investigating a murder case and being so desperate for childcare, that she fails to thoroughly check her au pair's references.
Highly recommended and I am looking forward to the next in the series.
