Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This is a very interesting book. A little bit strange and definitely a lot of triggers. It is good at holding your interest however and well written.
I did enjoy this story, the storyline was very intriguing & kept me reading until I finished which was pretty much in one sitting!
Great story combining row incidences, murder and a long time kidnapping. Sad to think that these things occur in real ,I’ve, this author brought the stories to life.
Ok so I will say this is probably the worst book with crazy errors I’ve ever read from Netgalley.
Having said that once I was able to figure out the whole “F” missing from words and the paragraph showing up twice the story was heartbreaking.
To know this type of thing is happening in our world daily is horrible. I think this story is probably close to what little girls and boys are going thru who have been abducted and more than not things don’t end well.
I thinks the author did a pretty good job with this story to give us a good glimpse into what these kids are going thru so kudos to you
Debra Schrack.
Such an interesting story! You’ll be introduced to the characters and how their lives are completely different than what the outside world is experiencing. Follow along as the main character meet a friend through the fence, and in the end saves her.
This book was okay. But has a lot of typos that I’m not sure if they are done like that on purpose because they are repetitive typos. Hopefully it is accidental because it really detracts from the story.
Now THIS was a good book!
After reading 2 meh books it was nice to dig into this one. The premise was what attracted me and i was not disappointed. I know of the case of Elizabeth Smart and how sad it was for her to not only be kidnapped but to be tricked into thinking she had no home to go back to.
The characters are definitely fleshed out. We get a sense of Eve from her interactions with Mama, Papa, and Honey. Her backstory was told in a flashback and it was easy to put myself in her position and really sympathize and root for her.
Likewise with Emma. Her bond with her sister is unlike any other. Her rockstar background was a nice surprise and the reader could see how it shaped her even though the book wasnt about that. Emma’s relationships with Cork and Trix are healthy and were fun to experience in the pages.
What i didnt like, and this isnt against the author, i am mad at fictional characters (LOL) is when Cork and Trix try to make Emma’s problems about them. “Why didnt you tell me” “you lied”, etc. True to their teenage ages but i just read that thinking: you are not entitled to learn every facet of a person’s life, thoughts, or feelings. Thankfully it was resolved quickly.
I felt like there was a bit too much going on with the goldilocks stalker, an abduction, a plane crash, AND Noelle’s situation, but i must admit it tied together well. But if any of that had been left out i wouldn’t have missed it.
I saw this wasn’t this author’s first novel but the other one doesn’t appeal to me so i look forward to the next one!
3.5 stars. This book has potential, but the structure was a bit sloppy. This book definitely needs some serious revisions, but I think the base is solid.
***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of OVER THE FENCE by Debbie Schrack in exchange for my honest review.***
OVER THE FENCE is a story with a great premise and well-executed plot that fell flat due to lackluster writing and stilted dialog that sounded like an adult trying and failing to sound like a teen.
Not every YA novel needs a love story. Adolescent readers are sophisticated enough to realize new romance isn’t on the forefront while facing acute trauma.
I’m going to keep the review short to avoid piling on to this well-meaning novel. Two stars for the compelling plot.
