This was such a fun read for little kids to enjoy around Christmas time! They enjoyed it so much and wanted to read it each night before bed.
My kids loved this book as I read it for the first time. We made a habit of reading a story every day, but I realized that the option of reading a story in English one evening, and the next evening there will be one in Romanian, it brought a great advantage to my little ones to learn English much easier. So we like this variant and do not miss the opportunity to discover new words and savor each story separately. I truly believe reading to my kids is a wonderful time and a privilegie.
This is a great book to read to your kids, especially when the holiday of Christmas is fast approaching. The author and songwriter, Rory Feek takes children and families on a beloved journey to Christmas past in Once Upon the Very First Christmas. On a picturesque farm, schoolchildren gather their homemade costumes and props and put on a heartwarming Christmas play for the community. As they don halos for the angel choir or round up sheep for the final nativity scene, readers will be immersed in the greatest blessings of Christmas—the gift of Jesus—and be reminded that we can rejoice together in the wonder of the season.
This is a sweet book introducing young readers to the true celebration of Christmas. The artwork in the book is absolutly charming. Once Upon the Very First Christmas is a cute, simple read with adorable, colorfull and amazing illustrations – I appreciated the diversity depicted through them.
Another thing I liked very much was the simple light rhyming prose that tells the story of the Jesus birth. It is short enough to retain a toddler’s short attention span and the simple text is just perfect for beginning readers. Thanks to the wonderful illustrations, children are encouraged to do their own play at home. I simply love this book and my kids the same. I will always recommend it warmly. Parents and families, old and young will enjoy this new book as part of their holiday traditions. This book fit perfectly as a gift for the little ones at this time of Christmas, or for a babyshower and baptisms.
Thank you to NetGallery and Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN’S for the temporary ARC that I received in return for my honest review.
This book was adorable! Short and perfect for a child in your life, a teacher for their classroom, or a Sunday school classroom.
A cute picture Book about the first Christmas. It would make a great Christmas present. And addition to any library.
Once Upon the Very First Christmas for Little Ones by Rory Feek is a cute story to introduce young ones to the CHRISTmas story and adapts Once Upon the Very First Christmas for toddlers. Once Upon the Very First Christmas for Little Ones focuses on the bullet points of the Christmas story—Mary, Jesus being born, the Shepherds, and Wise Men. I think Once Upon the Very First Christmas for Little Ones would be perfect for any story time setting. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.
🎆Nice illustrations but lacked something🤔
3.5🌟stars
The digital copy was very short, with nice artwork, but it did not really tell the whole story. The nativity story was mostly there but it completely lacked any mention of it being a Christmas play. You can see that there is an audience in pews at one point and the players wear fake beards with costumes, there are snow and sleds, etc, but I think the book would have been better with at least a few pages at the beginning showing how the children prepared for the play.
It may have just been the source of my digital copy, but the formatting did not work on my Kindle; I had to read it sideways and the images were choppy.
Thanks to publisher Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the storybook; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
I received a copy of this eBook from NetGalley for a honest review.
This is a cute retelling of the Christmas story. Jesus's birth, etc. With illustrations of a modern Christmas pageant in a barn with live animals. It's well done but nothing original.
Two thumbs up. A great book to read to your kids or to gift a teacher. This would also be a good book to read to the littles in Sunday school
I love children's books, especially Christmas one. This was a cute, simple read with adorable illustrations. This would be a great book for a babies first Christmas
This book was precious. My child loved it and enjoyed seeing the animals. I highly recommend this book!
This seemed like a a nice childrens' book on the First Christmas. Unfortunately for me it didn't load on my Kindle well so it's hard to give a comprehensive review. From what I could see, it was written with simple but easy to understand text and colorful artwork that will definitely appeal to children.
This book is very festive covering tops of the original Christmas story.. when Jesus was born!
The illustrations are very cute and colourful.
I love the rhymes it makes for extra fun and a good reading flow
Once Upon The Very First Christmas is a ten page book for children. It has simple illustrations and explains the first Christmas in a simple way that they can understand.
It’s a great book for young children that introduces the first Christmas and what happened.
I love a good Christmas themed children's book. The illustrations here were amazing. It wasn't as seamless a reading as some others out there, but it certainly created an atmosphere.
I only felt that instead of teetering on the edge of a retelling, it could have fully embraced the original story.
This book was so adorable, I loved everything about it, the illustrations were so well done, they suited the book perfectly, the story was amazing as well. I’m sure the kids are going to be just as enthralled with this amazing book as I was. I will definitely recommend! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy
I read this sweet Christmas story to my grandson and he loved it and the illustrations. I love the modern day twist on the pictures and the flow of the rhymes. Great colors and plenty to look at in the pages with the littles.
The Christmas story – you know, that echt, original one about a census, and a trek, and a baby in a manger and all that – presented in quite accomplished and enjoyable rhyme, but with the weirdest visuals. It seems to want to turn the whole thing into a flippant, school nativity show, so all those who want to appear ethnic really do have a tea-towel and a band keeping it on their head, and shuffle about in their nightwear and housecoats, while the innkeeper wears full-on biblical denim dungarees. Is the right way to engage with young people you want to inculcate into a religion to present it with blatantly false beards and dodgy décor? Or do you want to ‘prove’ your belief with the most authentic, and tinsel-free, angels? I mean, this is over very quickly, as it is for a very young audience indeed, and I am probably over-thinking it, but I think the DIY aesthetic completely at odds with a book that wants to present this story earnestly as the truth. If you want your child to enjoy the pantomimic aspect they can relate to, then go ahead and share this with them, but there’s a strong chance they will see the artifice and falsity before the actual religion.
A short retelling of the birth of Jesus. Something very calming about the illustrations and reading of this book. A classic to keep to for years to come. Would make a great gift to new parents.
A special thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
The pictures in this book are absolutely amazing. This book is short and simple perfect for around age 3 attention span and the perfect introduction to the story of Jesus. It holds true to the actual word and doctrine of Jesus but at a younger level. This would make a perfect book for the Christmas Eve boxes so many of us love! Great read!
Thank you Netgalley and Roy Feek for the chance to review this book.
This was such a great story about the first Christmas. It will be a perfect story go read to children, especially on Christmas. The illustrations flowed so well with the story and will keep all readers engaged until the end.
