Loved, loved, loved this book, it was just a really good read, realistic, and with different facet combined into the story line, it made for excellent reading. Murder in a vet practice, with a back story and a feel good ending. It is a joy to find a book written where setting is authentic and the plot gels in seamlessly. I loved the crows..Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC
If you've ever had a pet, it's quite likely you've made a few trips to your local veterinarian clinic. Very few of us, however, have any real clue what vets do on a daily basis when they aren't explaining the selected treatment for your own pet. This book will go a long way toward giving you a better understanding of what goes on besides the receptionist making appointments as they field calls or the vet tech holding your squirming pet for the vet exam. Author Eileen Brady was a practicing vet for some thirty years, so it's no wonder these interactions we rarely see ring true.
I realized at some point how comfortable I felt with these characters, not to mention the menagerie of critters. All felt like someone or some animal you have met and/or could be friends with. Heck, I even found myself warming up to Babs. That was impressive because I wasn't too fond of her initially. The addition of a romantic interest this go-round was another plus, especially since he is a big-animal vet as opposed to main character Kate's largely small animal focus. It was also a clever use of a feathered friend, so to speak, in the title and to help move the plot along. In other words, I was thoroughly enjoying my read.
The murder? Who'd kill engaged couple Jose and Alicia? Who's this Bruce character and why does he lie about Kate and Mari to the press? And, hey, why is Mari, usually so cool and controlled under such a situation, suddenly obviously uneasy when they discover a second body? Is Babs involved? She does seem to know the female victim after all. Will Kate ever find time to really get to know the intriguing new vet? Or, wait, is he married? Uh, oh. Well, that's assuming she even lives long enough.
And, hey, who....oh, never mind. Enough teasers. This series is proving addictive for me and it's one I definitely recommend if you're into small towns, animals of all kinds, friends and family, and, hmm, maybe romance. The third in the series, it works well as a standalone, even resolving a lingering issue, but you'd enjoy the first two, too, I'm betting. Thanks #NetGalley and #PoisonedPenPress for inviting me along to ride along with Kate and Mari. I'm already looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Love this series! Why? Because it's well written, awesome characters, animals, vets, animal rescue and small town living. A murder suicide turns out to be a double murder. Solid mystery. Kate, the veterinarian is working temporarily in Oak Falls where murder has taken a young couple. It's a delight! If you haven't read this series I highly recommend you do! Thanks #Netgalley and #PoisonedPenPress for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

An apparent murder suicide turns out to be a double murder, the police chief is on vacation out of state, and then an innocuous woman is dead in the veterinary clinic from an overdose of laughing gas. Dr. Kate is on temporary assignment in this small town where she has made many friends and they are determined that she should investigate and find the truth for these victims.
Lots of interesting realistic characters, both human and not. Unusual whodunit full of plot twists and red herrings with side orders of veterinary lore, hope for romance, and witty humor. Loved it!
I requested and received an EARC from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley. Thank you!
I enjoyed this book. I really like Katie’s character. I have to admit that I’d forgotten who the character that was the killer by the end of the book. I loved the crows and the rest of the animals. I didn’t feel like a lot of investigating was going on but enjoyed all the interactions between the characters. #MurderofaFeather #NetGalley.
It seems Veterinarian Dr. Kate finds herself working on a series of deaths in the area. When three deaths occur and the talk is suicide, Kate can’t help but find it too coincidental and starts digging in.
This one is a really good series and I enjoy the setting and Kate’s vet knowledge. Even when she’s working with four legged critters, she’s got her mind working and solving mysteries of the two legged kind. Lots of red herrings to keep you going and guessing until he final reveal. I recommend this series to all you cozy lovers.
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and talented author. This is a quick fun read. The characters are likable and keep the story moving. Enjoy this mystery. Try to determine the ending. It is not easy.
No Coincidence..
The third in the Dr Kate Vet Mystery series and, as Winter is well ensconced in Hudson Valley, Dr Kate is well ensconced in murder most foul. Three deaths on her doorstep that turn out to be homicides just cannot be coincidental. Needless to say, she’s soon on the case - whilst juggling her usual animal oriented commitments. Enjoyable and entertaining mystery, twists and turns aplenty, with a cast of colourful characters and an atmospheric, well imagined setting.
I have really enjoyed this series up til now. I thought this book was the best yet. I like the characters in the book, they are well fleshed out. You can actually related to them. The scenery is described well enough to imagine as well. Dr Kate and Mari get pulled into a murder/suicide? by chance. While at first they don't actively go looking for clues, somehow they get involved. When another death occurs, Dr. Kate sets out for justice. This wasn't as typical as a lightweight cozy. It had more plotting with more twists. It was more polished than many of the cozies out there these days. It was a pleasure to read as well as it kept you guessing til the end.
Dr. Kate is worried how the vet clinic will run when their super efficient receptionist goes on vacation. The temp keeps the clinic organized. While on a house all, Kate and her vet tech, Mari, are waved down by a distraught man. He’s found a body, but when Kate and Mari investigate, they find a second body under the ice in the lake. Originally declared a murder-suicide, Kate has her doubts. When someone close to Kate dies in the clinic, she is driven to find the killer. Meanwhile, Kate is wondering what she’ll do when the owner of the clinic returns and has Kate found that someone special?
I like the characters in this series, including the animals. The mystery was well-done and I didn’t know who the killer was until the end. If you like cozy mysteries and animals, you will enjoy this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC.
Murders of a Feather is a great book, it's full of twists and turns, secrets, and animals.
Dr. Kate is covering a small town veterinary hospital in the Hudson Valley, and she always finds herself wrapped in the middle of a murder investigation.
The discovery of two dead bodies sets the scene for this book, and Dr. Kate and her assistant Mari, are the ones who discovered them.
This is a well scripted story, the characters are fantastic and the mystery itself kept me guessing until the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.
I really enjoyed this book! The mystery was good and I didn't guess the outcome. My favourite part was all the animals! Have a veterinary hospital as a setting was new for me and was so interesting. I will definitely check out the previous books in this series and look forward to future ones.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Poisoned Pen Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Poisoned Pen Press.
Murders of a Feather by Eileen Brady is book #3 in the Dr. Kate Mysteries . Veterinarian Dr. Kate Turner has a tough case on her hands this time. Her assistant Mairi and office manager Cindy are her main partners in investigating the case. I greatly admire Kate in her perserverance in the investigation. Her deductive reasoning is impressive. I liked the energy in this story. The twists and turns made for fun reading. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, murder, mystery, a great who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
