This was a sweet little novella. There was a lot of story packed into the 100 page book I received. I really liked it. I felt like I really knew Indy. This is a classic rom-com style novella. Indy strongly believes in fate but ignores the bright, flashing sign with arrows that fate is sending her. I didnβt find it annoying, but I could see people thinking it is.
I read this in one sitting, but it is a novella. Itβs easy reading and apparently part of a series. I didnβt feel like I was missing anything despite it being part of a series. I may even pick up the ones before this one.
It was a little disjointed and skips around a bit, which at times was hard to follow. Also, it very abruptly became smutty at the end. It was not what I expected. If you like a bit of spice with your romantic comedy, this is for you.
A great read, the story of Destiny and Ethan. Since visiting a fortune teller years ago, Destiny has been convinced that her soulmate is her ex Nick, but now all roads lead to Ethan, so who is she meant to be with? A fun short read
I adored this quick, quirky romcom! Lovable main characters, fun adventure and mental health representation all mix together to make one bingeable novella #ItHasToBeYou. Now pardon me while I binge on the rest of the series! π₯°
Thank you #NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this gem.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for sending me this book to read early! <3
This book was such a wild ride. It was really fun and I think it moved at a fast pace considering it's a novella! I really enjoyed the character development of Indy and seeing her fully embrace her journey to finding love. I thought the plot was pretty predictable the moment Ethan was introduced but I really loved watching their relationship grow and progress. It definitely made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and the one spicy scene was good!
Only giving it 4/5 because it wasn't my absolute favorite book but it was so great and I can't wait to read the rest of the series :)
This book was a cute and easy read. I wasnβt necessarily blown away by the plot, but it was straightforward and sweet. I did find Indy to be a little annoying at times, but I think her new found confidence at the end redeemed her a bit. And the spice at the end was HOT. Overall a fun read!

Dani McLeanβs Movie Magic novellas never fail to disappoint! Her newest installment in the series rivals Midnight, Repeated in that it is very close to being my favorite of the lot.
The story follows Indy, an anxious, introverted, and delightfully tattooed author of a series of adventure romance novels (side note: is there any way we could actually have these books irl because they sound amazing!) as she struggles to write the endgame love story for her protagonist. A believer in Fate, Indy decides to track down her high school sweetheart, Nick, which should be easy were it not for Ethan, the man who keeps getting in her way, who just so happens to be Nickβs cousin. As the pair continue to cross paths and spend more time together, Indy will have to decide whether she wants to wait for Fate, or if she wants to forge her own path.
This books was an utter delight. Daniβs novellas are perfect because they give you all the swoon-worthy moments and the spice, all within a story that you will devour in one sitting. Indy and Ethanβs banter was wonderful, and I spent the entire book just yelling at Indy to let Nick go, because come on, a flirtatious sweetheart who looks like Superman and stands with you through all your ups and downs? Sign me up. Ethan was the perfect book boyfriend, and I just loved watching Indy come to that realization as well.
If you are in need of something that is bound to lift your mood, It Has To Be You, and the rest of this series of novellas, is the perfect option for you.
I fell in love with Dani McLean when I read Not My Love Story! This was a cute novella. I love the story and the thought of our love being out destiny. This one had me swooning for Ivy and Ethan. I would highly recommend this book. Dani Mclean is a great writer and I love how her books are quick and binge worthy. You will finish them so quick because you can't put them down.
Thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for allowing me to read this ARC in advance for my honest opinion.
Fours novellas by Dani Mclean and I still loved each of them. But this....probably going to be my favorite.
What is Destiny? Should you blind trust it or make your own move? Even if every couple in your family is proving that love at the firth sight possible.
If you still didn't find your perfect book boyfriend. I'm here to tell that Ethan is ideal for this role. Kind, passioned, here for you no matter what. Indy, Indy, what is taking you to think so long?
Perfect story for true believers.
5 STARS! "It Has To Be You" by Dani McLean is my favorite Chance City novella yet!
Indy and Ethan's story!! Oh. My. God. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I love him, I love her, I love them together, I love everything about this novella. It's got laughs, it's a quick and easy read, it's sweet AND wildly sexy, it's swoon-worthy, the pining is immaculate, the chemistry is off-the-charts good, and the character flaws make sense within the context of the story and add to the personalities of the characters (aka they are not just mentioned and then ignored!). Ethan catapulted to the top of my book boyfriend list sooooooo quickly. I love how McLean explores Indy's anxiety and panic issues in a not-shaming way, and I adore how Ethan understands and helps her through her anxiousness. I want more of them together! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll read ANYTHING Dani McLean writes! She is so, so good.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dani McLean, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing me with an ARC copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for my review.
This was the perfect little novella - I didn't feel like I was longing for more, was perfectly happy with how the characters ended.
I have to admit that I didn't read the first three books in this series, but that didn't take anything away from how much I enjoyed this. I love how Indy and Ethan met - and how they fell into one another as the story progressed. The tension in this book was so good. Don't let elementary school teacher Ethan fool you, he was a the dream book boyfriend. I loved that Indy took the idea of fate into her own hands.
Thank you Net Galley and Dani McLean for a copy of this book.
Dani has done it again! Her novellas are so on point with feelings, sexual tension and just extraordinary love!
We meet Indy who believes in fate and soulmates. As a teen Indy goes to a psychic who tells her that she will meet the man of her dreams. Indy believes that the psychic is referring to Nick, her ex-boyfriend from fifteen years ago. Indy believing that this is a second chance at love and finding "the one" she sets out to find Nick.
Upon seeking Nick out, Indy runs into a man who is tall, handsome, rides a motorcycle, is a sexy rock climber, a kindergarten teacher and by just dumb luck, is Nick's cousin, who is also trying to track Nick down. The two work together to find Nick but in the process, feelings erupt, and Indy just might begin to understand what the psychic was saying all the years ago.
This story was a slow but oh, so good burn! I loved the witty banter between Indy and Ethan. I also loved that even though Ethan had feelings for Indy, he still helped her tracked down Nick. He had put her wants before his own, which we find is one of his biggest weaknesses in his life. He puts others wants before his own. Talk about swoon!
Do you ever request books solely becauseΒ of the cover? I admit, I did this when I saw how cute the cover was for It Has to be You. Imagine my surprise when I started reading and discovered it was a novella! I don't always enjoy novellas as I sometimes feel the story moves too fast and by the end, I usually want more but this one was perfect! I adored the storyline and main characters. It was well written and incredibly sweet.
This was my first introduction to Dani Mclean and I was not disappointed. It Has To Be You is a very cute novellaπI really liked the FMC and how confident she was in her beliefs and Ethan was such a great character,he always knew what to do or say,he was swoonworthy.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. Thank you NetGalley.
I absolutely love that the FMC is tattooed and shown as tattooed on the cover!
FMC Indy is an author who definitely believes in fate. Indy truly believes her fate is with Nick.
BUT MC Ethan keeps getting in between that. He's a gorgeous school teacher who somehow keeps ending up in her path.
But which man is her soulmate ? Who is her destiny?
It Has To Be You is novella length, coming in at 192 pages. I absolutely love books at this length, and the author did an amazing job packing in all the storyline in these pages. This was a fun read!
Dani McLean can do no wrong when it comes to romance. Indy and Ethan are so perfect together and the ending was perfect. I love how much Indy grew from the beginning. Indy deserved so much better than Nick. Ethan was so perfect just waiting for her to realize it. Iβll read anything McLean writes at this point. So much angst and the spice is on point.
I was not the biggest fan of this story, but I stuck it out because I wanted to like it, thankfully this is a quick read and it was over pretty fast. I hit 30% and figured it out. I knew Ethan and Indy would end up together, but he admits something about Nick that revealed the rest of the plot. Iβm not including spoilers.
I will say I wish the author had set it up a little differently and left some mystery until towards the end. Once I hit 30% I had a hard time finishing because it was so easy to see how this would play out. This was cute. I got a little tired of Indy being so wrapped up in the idea of Fate and Destiny. At times I felt like okay I get it, move on.
Ethan was just a little too perfect. All book boyfriends need a flaw or two.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you to the author and netgalley for providing me with this e-ARC copy of this book.
This was my first Dani McLean book and it certainly will not be my last. It was a novella which was amazing and the plot was just so well done. It was really a well written, interesting, funny, slow burn novella. The characters were really easy to love and root for, they were well developed and each one of them made the story better. The romance was amazing and I truly felt like the main characters were made for each other. The little touches of destiny and magic made the story that much interesting. This was such a good novella and I cannot wait to continue reading Dani McLean works in the future.

The ending!
Dani McLean really knows how to write the perfect book-boyfriend! Ethan is PERFECT, no doubt, he is sweet, understanding, patient and with each passing page I found myself falling for him.
I love this series so much because it can do so much in such a limited page number, all the parts so far are so well written it doesn't even feel like you are reading a short novella, it doesn't feel rush and it doesn't leave me feeling like something is missing.
And although sometimes I felt frustrated with Indy, being so blind about thinking Nick was her soulmate, I couldn't stop thinking that sometimes we can all be a little like that, so attached to an idea that we can miss what's right in front of us.
Even then, I really enjoyed it and I'll be (not so) patiently waiting for the next one in this series.
This was obnoxiously CUTE. And the perfect length. Honestly, sometimes a novella is exactly what I need to break a reading slump.
Indy is an adventure-romance writer who believes in destiny, specifically that this gold bracelet her teenage ex-boyfriend gave her that she found fifteen years after throwing it in a box, would reunite them and maybe the spark would still be there. But while waiting in said exβs office, she meets Ethan. Sweet, darling, hotter than he has any right to be, Ethan. The two of them are perfect together.
I loved this novella so much. While. I wanted more of them, Iβm also perfectly content with what we got.
