"It Has To Be You" is the fourth installment of the Movie Magic Novellas series. I haven't read any of the previous novellas yet, but I'm definitely getting to them now. I'm glad I came across this novella, it was a pleasant surprise. It's a feel-good, fluffy, and heart-warming book. A perfect palate cleanser.

serendipity
noun. The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

Fate was always present in Indy's family. Allegedly. So, at 16, after her boyfriend had given her a family heirloom bracelet, she went to a psychic to make sure Nick was the one, her soulmate. Fifteen years later, and most definitely not with Nick anymore, she finds that bracelet again. Was it a destiny sign? Just a way to figure that out. But she didn't know that by pursuing this path she would find Ethan, Nick's cousin. And find him she would. Every. Damn. Time.

"'Fate didn't make this happen. You did.' The soft tone of his voice wrapped around her. 'By your measure, you're my destiny.'"

I fell head over heels for Ethan. Especially for how passionate he was for teaching and how thoughtful he was to Indy. They were very easy to cheer for. It was lovely to see them falling in love little by little. I also loved how the author played Indy's ordeal in writing about her character falling in love whilst Indy herself was falling in love.

Yes it’s a novella, but it does not skimp on the good stuff. The writing has No unnecessary fluff added, character development is well thought out. The swooning was immediate and I loved it.

Indy believes in fate, and hers is tied to her high school boyfriend, Nick. Fifteen years later, Indy sees her second chance to reconnect with the man destined to be her true love. Only one thing stands in her way — Ethan Fraser.

Indy and Ethan are so. utterly. charming. The writing is absolutely fabulous and reading Indy’s thoughts feels like listening to my funniest friend. Ethan is every bit of a dream book boyfriend. I would read this over and over again like watching a favorite movie.

You’ll Find —
Ethan: charming, rock-climbing, glasses-wearing, elementary school teacher
Indy: tattooed, introverted, gamer, romance author in need of first hand experience with love
He falls first
Flirtatious texting

Indy is a romance author, and although she’s writing her fourth book, she is struggling to get it right. Since she’s never in love properly before herself, she’s scared she will fail and be found to be a fraud. When she was much younger, a psychic made some predictions on her soulmate, and she’s now desperately trying to find her boyfriend at the time, Nick, who she thinks might be “The One”. Except Fate is stepping in at every opportunity to push her towards his cousin Ethan. Can Indy let go of her belief that she is meant to be with Nick and give the adorable Ethan a fair chance?

I have really enjoyed Dani McLean’s series of novella stories set in the mythical town of Chance, where just about anything can and does happen. I feel like this is my favourite book in this series, it’s the least mystical, and the question of Fate and Destiny is explored in a very realistic way. Ethan is a big softie, a rock climbing Grade 4 teacher, who turns out to be absolutely devoted to Indy in more ways than one. She is introverted and unsure of herself, but the two fit together in a charming way. Great thing is although this is a series, perfect to read these as standalones 👍👍

It was an okay read: sweet but predictable and slightly stilted in the dialogues.
It didn't really leave me anything, nor I felt any particular emotion while reading it.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG I LOVED THIS. the pacing was perfect (and i’m always a little scared about that when reading a novella), the chemistry amazing and the whole destiny storyline was very much loved by me. whenever ethan opened his mouth i was shaking (even when he was silent i was shaking i wont lie). this man was the perfect mixture of soft and hot. indy was sooo relatable and i just loved her.
this truly was amazing and i would definitely recommend it to others.

3*

This book was sweet and ticked all of the romance novel tropes. A little predictable, but perfect if you're looking for a quick romantic romp.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I literally lapped this one up in an hour (or two, 'cause I'm a slow reader) but it felt like it ended so soon 😭 I want more of Indy & Ethan! Also, there really should be an NSFW warning for the mirror scene 🥵

The writing and teaching insights really hit deep. The men in this series keep breaking the standards, and the spice only gets better with each book! I can only imagine what 'The Forces of Love' will do to me. Also, Snoopy is the cutest nickname ever 🥺

AND I literally screamed when Lauree (the blonde hair gave it away) & Max (he's the only one who wears a bright orange sweater in Chance) made an appearance!

P.S. Indy's tattoos were so beautiful! @inkandlaurel had portrayed them to absolute perfection 🤌🏻 When the cover came to life with the diner scene!

P.P.S. Dedication's going to the top of my list 😂🤌🏻

P.P.P.S. I'm creating a portal at this point to Chance City 🫠

This novella did not disappoint! This book has so much raw emotion, funny moments, top tier spice, and a nearly perfect book boyfriend. It has it all! This is one of those books while you read it, you know it’s going to be one you wish you could read again and again. I truly never wanted this book to end! Ethan is so patient, kind, and forward with his emotions and his feelings about Indy. It was refreshing to see a man so respectfully fight for what he wanted. This book is equally about taking love into your own hands. While love is very much a choice, and a fight for the one you love, it’s also about fate and destiny and the path that the universe or whatever higher power someone may believe in has set out for you. Dani never fails to amaze me with how much emotion and magic she captures in each of these novellas, and this one takes top spot for me. For a shorter book, the pace is just right and not rushed. This is a swoonworthy, steamy, sweet adventure to rival all others!

Where do I begin? This is the 4th installment in the Movie Magic novellas and dare I say my favorite. Ethan is confident, sexy, and oh so flirty. It is fast paced and a slow burn, but when it finally comes around, be prepared. I loved Indy and Ethan's banter and how much Ethan made Indy believe in herself. Ethan is just about perfect (men take note) except for that pesky tooth lol. This book made me laugh out loud, swoon, and fall in love with the characters. I can't wait to read what (and who) Dani comes up next.

I really enjoyed this novella series! Fun whimsical stories. I particularly like this one because Indy on the cover looks like Bleachella era Taylor Swift but with tattoos 😍. Indy and Ethan were super cute together and I flew through the book!

For anyone who's ever struggled with believing in fate and taking chances on creating your own destiny!

This was another super fun novella in the Movie Magic series. I really enjoy all the magical realism elements the author incorporates into her work and this one was a bit on the tamer side but had a great twist ending.

Indy was a super relatable FMC, struggling to write the HEA finale to her popular series and feeling like a romance writer fraud having never been in true love herself. Believing the answer lies in tracking down an old ex that a fortune teller told her was the one she'd end up with, she attempts to find him only to keep running into his very dreamy cousin, Ethan instead.

Elementary school teacher Ethan is top notch book boyfriend material!! I was all about his big heart, hot motorcycle and always listening ear. Plus the mirror sex scene, phew, SUPER spicy! Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

This is the 4th book of The Movie Magic Novella, it can be read as stand alone. I read previous book (A Missing Connection) and this i love author writing style. When you know you know, you can feel it, he is out there, all you need to do is believe. That what Indy feel, she is looking but he never appear and he appear when she least expect.

My god Indy and Ethan first encounter really intens, they interaction strong with attraction and spark i can feel it in my gut (so jealous). I like how they spend time together, talking without relize time passing by, show each other favorit place, understan and help each other problem. The sex scene too hot!! (Spoiler: it is including mirror). I glad Indy meet Etan, what psychic said become true.

“Fate doesn’t act alone. She’ll show you the path, but you must walk it yourself.”

Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

When I tell you I dropped everything to read this book and it did not disappoint! This book has so much raw emotion, funny moments, top level spice, and a man who is now the most perfect book boyfriend to date. It has it all. This is one of those books while you read it, you know it’s gonna be one you wish you could read over again for the first time. I truly never wanted this book to end. Ethan is so patient, kind, and forward with his emotions and feelings about Indy it was so refreshing to see a man so respectfully fight for what he wanted. I seriously highlighted every word Ethan said, it’s not an over exaggeration. Indy is the drama queen FMC, she is the comedy, she is the moment. She is so relatable in her battles with feeling enough that it really touched me, and watching her grow into herself was so moving. This book is equally about taking love into your own hands, Love is Choice! Choosing to fight for and loving someone everyday, to prove you’re there for them always. But it’s also about fate and destiny and the path that the universe or whatever higher power someone may believe in has set out for you. Dani never fails to amaze me with how much emotion and magic she captures in each of these novellas, and this one takes top spot for me. This truly is a work of art.

This was a fun novella which had heart and a little bit of spice.
The love story isn’t rushed either, even for a shorter book and the pacing works well. Overall enjoyed how McLean introduced the characters and their story together.

A great quick read and would recommend for those who enjoy romance books and/or books for commutes.

i loved this novella so much, i think it's my favorite one i've ever read. i didnt think dani could outsell her other one but this was too good. i connected so much to indy, her character was one full of dreams but also such low confidence and i understood that all too well. i just loved how entirely relatable she was, wanting that one true love that would always be stable but thinking she wasn't good enough for it. ethan was such a great match for her and he was so sexy but also so kind. i recommend this for anyone who wants a short but really fun and emotional love story.

ARC Review (thanks NETGALLEY!)
I’ve read some dirty nasty books before and not one of them made me blush as hard as Ethan did. He was just so swoony!
Book was so adorable and both main characters seemed realistic (I really wish Ethan was real and mine)
I’m taking a star off only because I wished it were longer.
Looking forward to reading more by this author!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this arc.

Being a novella, it was a short quick read- but I enjoyed it all the same. I enjoyed the story of fate and how it all tied together with the bracelet in the end.

First, I would like to thank Victory Editing & Netgalley for the ARC of ‘It has to be you’ by Dani McLean

The story starts with young Indy visiting a psychic to find out if her boyfriend Nick is her soulmate. Years later, Indy is a published author struggling with writing her last book in her series. As a Romance writer, she feels like an imposter, as she never really has experienced love. When Indy finds an old gift Nick had given her when they dated in high school, Indy believes it is a sign, and it's her destiny to connect with Nick again. After tracking him down, she tries to see Nick at his office, but meets Ethan instead. Although Ethan comes over as a flirt, it doesn't take long before being on Team Ethan. Without giving away any spoilers, Indy and Ethan develop a deep, meaningful friendship and gosh you hope they will end up together.

Once I got into the story, I kept on reading. I enjoyed the lighthearted way of writing by the author. I loved the inner struggles of Indy, her self-awareness and strong believe in destiny. Ethan...well...he’s totally hot and I would not care about my ‘destiny’ when he's sitting on my couch.

‘It has to be you’, is a light read with some steamy scenes (one very very steamy scene, that made me blush). I missed some depth and flaws in Ethan as he is too perfect but it didn't really bother me as it's a great read with a glass of wine curled up on the couch. I definitely want to read more of Dani her books.
