Everyone can use a slow cooker cookbook. I use my own more now that I'm retired than I did before. This book provides some good, popular, but fairly common soup recipes. But where it gets interesting is in the crockpot breakfasts, side dishes and dinners. Even recipes for 2 people. And a guide to upside or downsize a recipe, because not every slow cooker is the same size.
Have a big family gathering and you want breakfast ready when you get up? This book has some great ideas for that. How about Blueberry French Toast or Huevos Rancheros? Want an interesting dinner idea? Most of the recipes list ingredients that you already have on your shelf, and if you don't, you can find them in any American grocery store. I think that's important!
Note: I cannot find this title on Goodreads, Bookbub, or Amazon.in order to leave reviews.
Everyone can use some simplicity in their lives and this book, Crock Pot Essentials, does just that!
I loved the ease of all the recipes and the fact that I can have my dinner cooking while I'm at work! It reduces my stress level knowing that I can have a hot and healthy meal on the table for my family even during busy weeknights. I also love that I usually have enough left overs to take to work the next day.
The house always smells so good when you use a crockpot to make your dinners!!
I believe this is a useful resource for anyone looking to expand their slow cooker recipe repertoire.
I also enjoyed that the cookbook has a variety of recipes for different meals, including breakfast, soups, stews, and desserts.
And, don't forget to read the tips and tricks for using a crock pot effectively and efficiently.
Loaded with helpful information and recipes.
The cookbook starts with an introduction section that is loaded with information. She discusses the cookware and gives you size of the slow cooker you need to use depending on how many people your serving. In addition, she includes a graphic of different slow cooker sizes and how to adjust recipes to the size your using. Under food safety she gives you a table showing meats and their safe temperatures.
The recipes are divided in the following sections. I’ve included a recipe from each section.
Soups and Stews: Hearty Ham and Bean Soup
Breakfast: Coffee Cake Surprise
Sides and Snacks: Green Bean Alfredo
Mains: Buffalo Chicken Pasta
Dessert: Double Berry Cobbler
Meals for Two: Shrimp Creole
Each recipe includes a picture, number of servings, ingredients, and instructions.
For this review, I made the Slow Cooker Kielbasa and Beer. It took less than 5 minutes to throw the ingredients into the slow cooker. It cooked while I was running a day of errands. My house smelled delicious and the food was simple but tasty. Clean up was even easier as I use a slow cooker liner.
My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC of this cookbook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is great cookbook. It's filled with interesting and creative recipes for the Crock Pot.
I love my Crock Pot! (and yes...I will forever call it a Crock Pot and not a "slow cooker" because that's what my mom calls it) I'm always looking for new things to try in it. These recipes look great! I love the dessert section. And the cooking for 2 section is great because most crock pot recipes feed a lot of people! The pictures are appetizing looking and the instructions are clear. I just wish it had the nutritional information for each recipe.
There is no such thing as having too many cookbooks or recipes on hand. Like many people, I get stuck in the rut of making the same meals over and over again. So anything new and anything easy is always welcome!
The first thing I like about this book is the chart that helps me resize the recipe for the size of crockpot I am using. This takes the guesswork away.
The second thing I like is the great photos. Photos are essential in a good cookbook.
Every meal of the day is represented in this book. I was particularly drawn to the soup recipes. Delicious sounding recipes. Some are followed by a recipe for a sandwich that would go well with the preceding soup. Great suggestions.
To wrap up: variety, easy, convenient and appetizing recipes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Readers Copy.
Everyone can use more crock pot recipes and these are great. We sometimes fall into a rut when we cook dinner and we need to add some variety on occasions. These recipes will be added to the family rotation very quickly. Whether you are looking for something for a regular Tuesday night or for a special party you will find what you are looking for. It might be hardy soup or stew for a cold winter night or a breakfast casserole you will love them. Have you ever made a cheesecake in your crock pot? Now you can you have the perfect recipe. There's nothing better after a long day at work than coming home to the smell of dinner already cooking. So pull out that crock pot and get started on tomorrow's dinner.
This is a super easy to follow Crock Pot collection with, as the title states, the essentials! I especially appreciate the section "Meals for Two," since one of my own personal issues is that most Crock Pot recipes make way too much food for me and my partner. Also next to each recipe in the index is an indication if the meal is vegetarian.
I love meals I can throw together and forget about and my crock pot is my best friend. These recipes are great and I'll definitely be making these recipes in the future.
Lots of options to choose from in Crock Pot Essentials. Recipes are easy to follow and very enjoyable.
You would think one could have enough slow cooker cookbooks. I for one cannot have enough. I always find something new to try in each one. CROCK-POT ESSENTIALS is no different.
Author Anne Schaeffer has put together a lovely volume. My stomach growled through a good portion of the book, and I can’t wait to try out some of the incredible sounding, and looking recipes.
Speaking of looking at the recipes . . . the photos are great! Beautiful colored photos of every recipe. Photos of the finished dishes are a big must for me. I like to reference them after I’ve made my own attempt at the recipe just to see how close I got. So, yaya for the photos!
After a brief introduction with some great tips, the chapters and pages of incredible recipes unfold in a culinary slow cooker wave.
You’ll find mouth watering dishes like . . . Crab Chowder with Roasted Veggies, Crockin’ Taco Soup, Turkey Pot Pie in a Bowl, Summer Pesto Soup, Overnight Apple Pie Oatmeal, Blueberry French Toast, Loaded Potatoes, Bacon-Wrapped Corn, Saucy Meatballs, Buffalo Chicken Pasta, Hawaiian Pizza, BBQ Ribs, Shrimp Creole, S’mores Brownies, Orange Cheesecake, and more!
My one negative has to be the lack of dessert/sweets choices. There’s only five. With all of the tasty meal choices available, more after dinner delight choices would tie it altogether.
All in all, CROCK-POT ESSENTIALS is a nice addition to your slow cooker library.
Good book for beginners . Easy instructions and easy to follow .
Good recipes that are easy to make
I am a Crock Pot (or Slow Cooker) girl and I love winter so I can pull my must loved appliance out and start using it again. It is a joy to see food transformed into wonderful, hearty and warming meals. And this book gives you all the love information and recipes you need to get you going.
The recipes use ingredients we all know and love, shows wonderful, tasty photos that will hint at what you should expect and plenty of hints and tips on how to use your crock pot.
I love all the soups and stews, casseroles and so much more that I can't wait to get stuck in and start making some of these tasty recipes. Yum. It certainly made me hungry reading this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book and for giving me more recipes and inspiration to get cooking.
This cookbook is excellent. Not only are the recipes easy to make with ingredients that you can readily find in most stores, there are ample pictures throughout the book depicting the foods. It's a well organized cook book as well. In addition to offering scrumptious recipes, the author also provides basic crock pot knowledge and instruction at the beginning of the book.
I haven't been able to make any of the recipes yet but I have several highlighted to cook in the near future. My crock pot is one of my favorite kitchen appliances and I use it at least once or twice each week. Therefore, this book will be helpful to provide me with a new recipe here and there.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
Solid recipes with clear directions. Great looking meals that aren’t complicated. I look forward to making them fit my family.
I loved the recipes in this book! As a Dutch person, I will have to look for substitutes for some products, but I have already compiled a grocery list for recipes I am going to try out this upcoming month!
Thank you very much for the arc. There aren’t many crockpot books available in the Netherlands and I would love to experiment more with mine!
This seems like a beginners book on crock pot meals. I didn't find anything new or original in it. The recipes are well laid out but use lots of ingredients I don't use, onion mix, canned nacho cheese, and other ingredients like that. Not my style.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. As a working mom of 2 young kids, I'm always on the lookout for easy, quick recipes. I really appreciated that this book had a picture for every recipe. Also, I liked that every once in a while, the author recommended pairings. Will definitely be trying some this week!
I am always looking for new recipes for my crockpot because I love using it for dinners and holidays. This cookbook had a lot of good recipes and I loved the photography! Stuffed Peppers in a crockpot? Yes, it worked and it was delicious! I thank Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this cookbook.
Lots of soups! I would have liked a few more creamy pasta recipes for my personal family tastes but the recipes in this book are comprehensive. I had never thought of making brownies in the crockpot either so thanks for that great idea! I will definitely continue to look through this book when I am looking for something new and flavorful to add to the crockpot. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
