This story has a dual timeline, the past - when Faye first meets Louis, and the present day. It's told from Faye and Rachel's perspectives. I like the author's style in writing this book. Faye is desperate to have a baby, and when she discovers a co-parenting app, (Acorn) she thinks she has found the ideal solution. But one year later, Faye's on the run with baby Jake. So much happens in this book, and the story unfolds in a way that I was not expecting. This is a well-written and cleverly crafted story. The twists, tension, and suspense keep you turning the pages.

Book was slow and could not continue to hold my interest, the characters felt flat and did not feel like there was much progress being made. Marked as did not finish at 75%.

This was such a well written mystery/thriller that leans towards a psychological thriller. At one point I thought I had this book figured out and then the actual plot twist hit, and I was not prepared, it was not by any means where I thought it was going but it was an immaculate twist, and I loved every second of this book. I posted a more in depth review on my TikTok @sagesshelves

🎵IT'S ME, HI, I'M THE PROBLEM, IT'S ME🎵!!!!!!! The Wrong Mother written by Charlotte Duckworth WAS NOT FOR ME. I had no clue what this book was going to be about, I went in completely blind, maybe I shouldn't have done that? I don't know, I like being surprised when I go into a book blind. The title and cover really had me, but the story didn't correlate with what the cover was showing at all. I had such high hopes for this book, but it's such a bummer it fell flat for me. The main character just didn't make sense to me, she was so naive at times, she had so many people behind her, willing to help, but yet she never sought out their help and advice. Faye just always walked with her head down playing the victim, but never took anyone's advice. I'm not the type of person who asks for help when I need it, i'm more of an independent person myself, so I can see where Faye is coming from, but when people are willing to help and it's right there in front of your face you take it with pride that others are willing to help. Please don't let this review stop you from reading this book. These are just my opinions and what didn't work for me. If anyone decides to read The Wrong Mother, I hope you have better luck than I did. Thank you for coming to my ted talk💖.

THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND HACHETTE BOOK GROUP FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!!

Faye is a thirty-nine year old woman and single. Faye is terrified she may NEVER have the one thing she has always wanted: to be a mom to her own child. How can Faye be a mom when she has no one to be with? There's an app for Faye. "Acorn" is an online co-parenting app, for men and women who want to have a baby, but that don't want to do it alone. When "Acorn" matches Faye and Louis together, it seems that fates have been aligned. Louis is wealthy and such a smooth talker. But, one year later, Faye's dreams are completely ruined and have turned into a nightmare, she is now a mother to baby Jake and is on the run from Louis. Faye has no idea about motherhood. She rides the bus to get to a different destination, but when people stop to help because Jake is crying, Faye gives them the cold shoulder and keeps her head down. At first, my heart went out to Faye for now being a single momma, but at times she was just so naive and blind.

Faye is now in desperate need of a place to live, Faye responds to an advert from an older lady, Rachel. Rachel is a sixty-four year old retired teacher who is trying to rent out a bedroom in her Norfolk countryside cottage. It's really all Faye can afford at this point with money running out, but the real question is, is Faye truly safe from Louis in the Norfolk countryside? Rachel gave me strange vibes when she was first introduced in the book. There's so many questions running through Faye's head, but she's so blind to the clues that she just lets her theories slip right through her fingers. Is Rachel the kind hearted landlord she pretends to be? Or is she hiding secrets of her own? I had high hopes of liking Rachel, but she kind of freaked me out the way she acted. At first, Rachel wasn't really willing to have a baby in her cottage, but when she looked at Faye and saw fear in her eyes, she knew something was wrong, but at the same time I feel like Rachel took advantage of them. Due to all the frustration this book caused, it felt like I was sitting there forever trying to get through this book and ripping my hair out.

This was a whirlwind read, tragic at times, and the suspense keeps you rushing through the pages. Anyone who has ever felt invisible, longed for love and friendship, will relate to the two main characters. This was gritty and unnerving, Duckworth knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, you think you know what's coming and then you are blindsided. Between the palpable suspense and the way our characters explain their sides throughout it keeps you guessing right until the end. Duckworth sows suspense deep into the soil of your mind until you aren't quite sure which way is which anymore.

I read this book thanks to Netgalley! Faye has been desperate to be a mother and now that she has Jake, she's ready to start fresh. Lucky for her, Rachel has a room for rent that's perfect for her. Unfortunately both ladies secrets start to come out. I was almost halfway through and was ready to not finish, but face it just a little more and that was a real turning point! I loved the overall story, especially Faye's story, but I did not like the layout of the book. I think the flashback style and changing point of view did more harm then good on this book. I don't think Rachel's side was necessary and her story could have been told without her point of view. I did enjoy the twists and turns but thought a few surprises needed a little more elaboration (I was left with a few too many questions) but the conclusion was absolute perfection! I think others will definitely enjoy this read, just be warned it does have a slow start.

This was an ok read, with super unlikable characters but an engaging story. It centers on Faye who is in the run with a newborn baby, and Rachel who rents a room in her house to Faye. Both characters have things to hide and while there is no major twist, there is suspense throughout.

If I had pick a character to back, I’d pick Rachel. She was annoying and meddling but also lonely and her intentions were good. I felt like Faye clearly had some kind of mental illness and was frustrated that no one close to her ever managed to figure this out. She was extremely unlikable but I also felt sorry for her. There really wasn’t a lot of surprise in this book but it was action packed enough to be an overall quick read. The ending was somewhat satisfying for me.

Overall, decent read but I really had trouble getting behind Faye’s character. Was still a fast paced book, and the writing was sound. I’d give it 3.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book so much! I was in suspense for the entire book from one situation to the next. I just had to finish the book to know what was going to happen. I certainly wasn't expecting the ending. So worth the read!

Thank you to Hachette Book Group and NetGalley for providing me with the ARC!

I had a little bit of trouble getting into this book at the start. I was automatically suspicious of both Faye and Rachel's characters, and I didn't like either of them for most of the book. Up until the end, there weren't any characters that I was rooting for, and I didn't feel any attachment to either of them.

That being said, this book was packed full of suspense and fun little twists throughout. Even though I didn't really care about the characters, I had to see what happened next and stayed up late to finish this book. All of the questions I had been gathering as I was reading were answered in the end, and everything added up well and was well executed.

Overall, this was a fun thriller, but I think it would've been better if there was a character to root for from the start.

The Wrong Mother was full of twists and turns just not well hidden ones or especially thrilling ones. There were several that spanned the whole book that kept me reading but at the same time I was not “nail bitting” or exceptionally thrilling. I don’t feel the main character “Fiona” had enough growth to end the book the way it did. But overall I did enjoy it.

***** I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The Wrong Mother entwines the twisted lives of Faye/Fiona and Rachel. Both had issues during their own upbringing. An event brings their worlds together. They live together to try to do what is right for baby Jake. Their past comes back to haunt them.

Two words: intense and twisted. This story had twist after unexpected twist. My heart was pounding in several scenes. A quick, delicious read that will keep you guessing to the last pages.

Faye hears about an online co-parenting app for men and women who want a baby but don't want to do it alone. She matches with a wealthy man named Louis and thinks she made a great choice. But a year later her dream has turned into a nightmare, with her and her son Jake being on the run from Louis. She rents a room from an old lady named Rachel. But is Rachel a kind old woman or does she have a sinister side?
I liked that the story takes place from the point of view of both Faye and Rachel. There were plenty of twists throughout the story, and the ending will take you by surprise. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

If you like twisted this is a good read, starting out I thought I knew the outcome but it just kept twisting and turning. I felt it bad for both Faye and Rachel having dealt with so much in their younger lives. Though this story shows you can’t judge a person based anything except how they act. Also Rachel really surprised me in the end.
