It had me laughing as well.
I enjoyed the banter between the characters. It made me want to keep reading. Their relationship really evolves through the book!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advance copy to read.

This was an easy read set in a lovely location. The story follows Margaret and Jagger as they end up on a company holiday together as 'enemies'. I wouldn't agree with it being an enemies to loves trope but more a grumpy sunshine. Margaret the FMC is the grump!

It was great to have representation of a larger sized main character.

I really liked Jagger the MMC and found myself feeling sorry for him most the way through because he was always sweet and trying to be kind. Also enjoyed the best friend Leighton.

There are some funny scenes that made me laugh out loud. I think it would make a great movie.

Overall an easy, fun read. But something about it just didn't quite make me vibe completely with it.

3.5 stars.

Cute, funny enemies to lovers adult romance story. It definitely has spice and steam. It was a good in the moment read but doesn’t leave me thinking about it. Quick fluff read.

This book… I was really excited to get approved, but honestly this one was just a bit underwhelming to me

What Happens on Vacation is the perfect enemies to lovers holiday romance with sizzling chemistry, chance encounters, forced proximity, and blissful holiday fun. There were many laugh out loud moments, especially from the banter between Margaret and Jagger, the text threads with Margaret's friends, and the numerous holiday mishaps. I couldn't help but smile while reading it. The story also had alot of realness to it with the early part of the story replicating an office working environment perfectly. It also tackles topics of loss of loved ones, bouncing back from divorce, and some other deeper topics mixed in with the other light hearted holiday side of the story. I honestly loved this book, it had me laughing, crying, and dreaming of a tropical holiday! I would 100% recommend it and look forward to reading more books by Jo Watson.

From work enemies to vacation buddies to step siblings. What an incredible journey Jagger and Margaret go on. If you like annoying parents, enemies to lovers and a few slapstick moments this book is for you.

When Jagger and Margaret both win a vacation from work they both end up inviting their widowed parents. It doesn’t take long for the parents to hook up and the kids to wonder if they should to.

I did enjoy this book for the most part. I thought some of the situations were a bit too silly and unrealistic. I definitely would’ve been yelling at my mom for embarrassing me more than Margaret did.

I think enemies to lovers isn’t really the trope here, can you call it enemies when it’s all one sided and the other side has just been hopelessly in love the whole time?

Overall, I thought the book was cute if just not my taste in someways.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

What Happens on Vacation is set in South Africa and Zanzibar. Hard working Margaret has her sights set on winning the top prize of a holiday to Zanzibar in her works general knowledge quiz. But when the quiz ends in a tie with her work nemesis Jagger they both end up going on the trip.

Which is fine for Margaret because she can still have a relaxing time with her mum for a week. Until her suitcase goes missing and she has no clothes. And her mum begins to fall for Jaggers dad leaving Margaret with no one else to spend time with apart from her annoying co-worker.

I really liked how Margaret and Jagger were together, their banter is great and the workplace romance trope fits this book so well. The only part I wasn’t a huge fan of was Margaret’s attitude. She’s just rude and never gave Jagger a chance. Which really makes her character development great though when she starts to realise that she’s judged him too harshly.

If you like a workplace romance or an enemies to lovers theme then this is definitely for you!

This book is released on 24th October so look out for it then!

Thank you Jo Watson, Netgalley and Wattpad Books for an advanced reader copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC

A good vacation read! I think the book was cute and the storyline fun. I feel she had a few too many issues and I wish the love story line began sooner and was more prominent!

This was the perfect summer read! It was a quick read and I absolutely loved the enemies to friends to lovers storyline. The banter between Margaret and Jaggar was incredibly, there were times I was laughing out loud. Every time I finished a chapter I kept saying to myself oh just one more. The plot and character development I truly enjoyed. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced read. I can’t wait until it comes out and I can buy it for my shelf.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘖𝘯 𝘝𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 follows Margaret and Jagger, journalist colleagues who have both tied for a tropical vacation to Zanibar and they can even bring their plus ones although there's only one slight problem - Margaret hates Jagger.

Hmm... maybe I've just grown out of Watson's writing.
I remember absolutely falling in love with her Burning Moon series. Nowadays, I just cringe a little at her hippie characters.

Although, Margaret is the polar opposite of hippie - she's steady, predictable and rigid in her way of life and Jagger seems to be the only to disrupt her carefully curated life.

I loved the banter and bickering between the main characters but at some point it just got old. Margaret's inability to chill out in Jagger's presence was annoying after a while and that seems to be mainly my issue.

Also didn't like Margaret's mum being too obnoxiously in Margaret's business and even though she's her mother I just felt like she was very disrespectful at times (big emotions were felt 😂).

I absolutely adored this story! I loved how she is a journalist and living her passions. I loved the character journey and how they came together.

A cute and funny read which is perfect for summer time. There are tropes such as forced proximity and workplace rivals to lovers. These tropes definitely are my favorites so I really enjoyed reading this book and I'll probably read some more by Jo Watson now.

This was such a peaceful and cheery read ❤️ it's a Hating Game-esque workplace rivalry to lovers (they share a desk) + a forced proximity trope because they win a joint vacation at their company's quiz night.

💫 Their banter was so much fun! The book is entirely narrated by the FMC, and it was so cheery to see the banter go from snipe-y to friendly to flirty 😭
💫 The vacation plotline was also so fun! There were some amazing-ly bonkers side character interactions, a bunch of historically informative tourist scenes, and really lovely settings for the MCs' interactions
💫 The third-act breakup hurt 🥲 but the makeup was cheesy and amazing in the best way 😭

TWs - death of parent due to cancer (off page, but heavily mentioned), death of parent due to a vehicular accident (off page, mildly mentioned), grief, cheating in a marriage (past relationship) followed by divorce

-- ty to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy!

What Happens On Vacation is a sweet story, if a little predictable. Lovers of enemies-to-lovers, workplace romance, and vacation romance will all find something to enjoy here. The colorful background characters have a strong presence and are incredibly likable. At times, the book felt like it was trying to do too many things simultaneously, but it did wrap up with a lovely 90’s-themed prom moment!

I really struggled to finish this book. Mostly because it just felt longer than it needed to be. The beginning was good, but once they were actually on vacation I just felt like the plot line dragged out. While the story overall is cute I just needed it to move a bit faster.
