I can't quite put my finger on why I've been bowled over by this series but I can try to articulate a few of the elements that I love so dearly in this third and final installment to help.
First, Marjorie's muted life is so deeply felt in the way the story is told panel by panel. She has found a ghost and befriended him, Wendell, in their family's laundromat. Marjorie has been generally friendless, but then meets Eliza who is a bit weird herself which is why they become friends. In this book, there's a push/pull between them as Marjorie befriends two other girls from school and has a hard time figuring out whether that means she has to be less friends with Eliza or that there's room for everyone. This is while also navigating her ghost friend Wendell's quest to figure out how and why he died and is still a ghost.
The mystery pulls the story a little long in parts for this book, but it's a satisfying end and as Wendell and his ghost friends vacate the laundromat, it's the bittersweet moment readers have waited for.
Marjorie's life in the house with her younger brother and dad who is trying to make things work is picture-perfect and pitch-perfect. When dad utters phrases like "your mom was better at this" or "I'm trying", as an adult reader, I feel for him. And Marjorie's teen angst mixed in with the tragedy amps up the emotional impact of the story as a whole.
Also, color choice. The palette for the three graphic novels are STELLAR. It's a whole mood and the quest adds a layer of action to an otherwise humdrum (in a good way) story that's being told. Ugh, deep feelings!
this was a great conclusion to the sheets trilogy. i love the relationship between marjorie and wendell and how he helped her learn to move on. I love eliza she needs a spin off. this was an epic story my poor baby wendell
The conclusion to this series wraps up the story in a heartfelt and satisfying way. This instalment focuses a lot on Wendell and him unravelling the true story behind his death and his life. We also see Marjorie exploring more friendships and learning to trust people along with learning to remove herself from toxic friendships that do not add to her life.
This beautiful series explores life & death, grief, friendship and coming of age. A fantastic series for any teenager or adult to read.
Very beautiful and emotional ending to the series. As always the art-style and color palette is gorgeous, and the story delves into some deep and important subjects. I loved finding out more about Wendell, while Marjorie and Eliza learned more about themselves and each other as well
The Perfect ending to this trilogy, I love that we focused on Wendell for this story. As with the earlier installments of this series the artwork was beautiful and the characters and storyline perfect for a YA audience.
An amazing conclusion to an amazing trilogy! I reread the first and second book in this trilogy and then went into the third and I loved it so much! The final book in this story does have themes of grief and healing if that would be something that could affect you.
Seeing Marjorie grow through this book has been outstanding coming from what she was like at the beginning of this trilogy. The same with Eliza being able to learn how to be friends with more people and being able to enjoy other hobbies. And the lovely, lovely Wendell! This story was a rollercoaster for him, revealing his past and coming to terms with how he died, it was amazing to read. As always with Brenna Thummler her storytelling is amazing, and the artwork was phenomenal. I cannot wait to see what she comes out with next.
Thank you net galley for this e-arc of Lights by Brenna Thummler

A masterful ending. This final book of the "Sheets" trilogy outshines its predecessors - we finally learn what happened to Wendell, and we get a bittersweet conclusion to the story and characters we've grown to love.
A lot of themes were touched on in this book, but I think the most important one was that we all play a part in one another's life, whether we like it or not. Parts change, and that's normal - no need to scorn the past just because it's no longer the present.
I adore the art in this graphic novel - the colour schemes are just gorgeous.
I've really enjoyed Wendell and Marjorie's story over this series and this third book felt like a good place to end it, though there is room for more if the author decided to do a spin off (is that a laundry pun?).
I need to get myself some physical copies of these books just for the aesthetic!
Ugh, I absolutely adored this. I really loved the focus on Wendell, and his story in this graphic novel. I have loved him since the beginning, so I loved learning more about him. I also loved the focus on friendships in this one, and the message of different people being different kind of lights in your life. I nearly cried towards the end of this one. Ugh, this was a beautiful finale to the series.
Wow!! What a beautiful conclusion to the trilogy this was. First and foremost, you can tell just how much Brenna Thummler has grown as a writer and artist over the course of the Sheets series. Her art and coloring are always immaculate, but I’m really impressed the writing in this book. The way Wendell’s backstory is explored and seamlessly intertwined with the present day is so creative. And the overlapping plot lines, the humor, the pacing, and the depth of each character are all spot on as well.
Of course it’s bittersweet to see this series come to a close, but I am so excited to see what Brenna Thummler comes up with next. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review! Lights publishes on September 5th, 2023.
An emotional finale to the Sheets trilogy. Lights explores Wendell's story - he knows he died young from drowning, which led to his wandering the Land of Humans and ultimately meeting Marjorie, but the details are missing. A Wendell seeks answers Marjorie and her friend Eliza suspect it may not have been accidental. Marjorie and Eliza find their own friendship tested as the shadowy presence of bullies looms. The three must work through the shadows to find the light. A fitting and moving conclusion with amazing graphic illustrations. I blasted through this in hours. #lights #brennathummler #netgalley #sheetstrilogy #graphicnovel
A beautiful conclusion and I'm devastated it had to end.
The final book in the Sheets graphic novel series finds Majorie, Wendell, and Eliza going on a mission to uncover the truth of Wendell's mysterious death.
Piece of Wendell's memory have been coming back in pieces - a Sea Witch queen and cruelty, more of his lion hat, snippets of parents who didn't seem to want him.
If Sheets was Majorie's book and Delicates as Eliza's, Wendell has a chance to fully shine here as we see flashbacks to his childhood spent in his parents' dance school, his dreams of becoming the Nutcracker, his love for his neighbor's dog, his time spent with his babysitter.
I cried from start to finish because it felt like I knew Wendell finally learning the truth would mean that he would be at peace. And he deserved that.
Shout out forever to Baby Timmy.
A great end to a great trilogy. The art continues to be wonderfully detailed and impossible not to zoom in on! Characters are very relatable and realistic. Nice wrap up and send off!
Book 3 in the Sheets series by @brennathummler was every bit as delightful as the other two MG graphic novels. Can’t wait for this to come out so my students can read the entire trilogy!
We are back with our crew, Majorie, Wendell, and Eliza. In Lights, we are following a dual timeline.
Wendell is more at the forefront of this story. Majorie and Eliza also explore what friendships mean and how different types of friendships can influence parts of their lives.
As much as I loved how Lights took a mystery turn, it was much darker than what I was expecting. I also had a hard time following the story in the beginning and even flipped back to Delicates to see if I missed anything.
Overall I enjoyed Lights and gave it 3 stars. My favorite parts of the story were the conversations the teens had with their parents about friendships and what it means to have multiple friends. Of course, I still loved Wendell even though he made me tear up at the end.
I recommend this series if you are looking for sweet stories about the power of friendships.
Thank you NetGalley and Oni Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Lights is the perfect ending to this sweet and beautiful series! Over three books, I've gotten to know and love all these characters so it was definitely bittersweet reaching the finale.
This time, the story focuses on Wendell and his story. He wants to know exactly what happened to him so Marjorie and Eliza agree to help! Lights was heartbreaking at times if I'm honest. I thought the other two were sad but this one definitely had me emotional. I think getting to know and love Wendell in the two previous books meant that learning what happened had more of an impact.
I think the portrayal of friendship in this novel was beautifully done and the whole thing felt like it had come full circle. The ending had me tearing up though. As I said, the whole thing was bittersweet.
I've loved this series and I've loved reading about these characters! These three graphic novels will stay with me and I'll be revisiting them when I'm in need of a comfort read!

What an absolutely brilliant and wholesome final installment to this series. I am utterly devastated to be saying goodbye to these characters. This graphic novel series as a whole is fantastic. It touches on so many important topics; grief, love, friendship, family, bullying, growth, depression and finding your place in the world. 4.5 big, warm, cozy, loving stars.
Totally obsessed with the whole series and this was the best way to round it out (though I am mildly hurt by the last couple of pages, I would've LOVED a short epilogue 'one year later' so it didn't feel like such a final goodbye).
Though all three graphic novels I gave 4 or 4.5 stars, I wouldn't hesitate to say this is a 5 star series as a whole!
My heart is equally hurting and so full from Lights. Brenna Thummler is a talent and I can't wait to see what is coming next.
Biggest thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for an early eARC of Lights, it is exactly what I needed on this cold winters day.
This was a lovely conclusion to the Sheets trilogy. It continues with the same tenderness and love that was present within this book. The art style is still lovely, with the colour palette changing to showcase the two stories within this book.
I thought this was a great wrap up. It concluded questions I had that arose in the past two, while giving us a lovely ending.
Lights is the third and final part of a comic trilogy about a girl named Marjorie. In this book, Marjorie, Eliza, and Wendell seek to find out what really happened to Wendell in life. Along the way, Marjorie's and Eliza's friendship is tested, Wendell keeps getting flashes of his childhood, and new friendships are formed.
I really enjoyed this last arc of the story. I think it did a great job to add suspense while also giving the story a satisfying ending. The color choices for the illustrations are so well done and I was captivated by the plot.
I adored this trilogy. The final book was gorgeous art-wise, and I feel like it was the best in the series. It was great to learn more about Wendell as well as see Marjorie and her family making decisions to move through their grief. It's also about communicating with friends and making new ones while in middle school; things are complicated when dealing with the living.
I loved the way Wendell's story was delivered piece by piece through his memories as they were stirred by the places they visited. I could see Thummler doing some other stories with Wendell if she had more to tell but all the loose threads were tied up.
