In the theatre there is the tradition, when all other lights are turned off, to keep one light onstage on. That is called the ghostlight, and it is never supposed to be turned off. That is what the light is, referred to in the title of the third book in the series about Wendell, the ghost, and Marjorie, the living human. The first two books were about Marjorie grieving foe her mother and the second of her making friends with a human.
In this third book we finally find out what led to the death of the little boy ghost. Apparently he was the young son of a dancer and her husband, who were very busy dancing, and running their school. Marjorie has found that he drowned, but there seems to be more to the story than that. How did he drwon. Why was he there? Why was no one watching who could have saved him.
At first I thought it odd that we might want to learn the story behind Wendell, but as the story progressed I realized that we very much did want to know how he died, and what the circumstances were, especially since some of the people involved were still alive.
It is a good ending to the trilogy. I would have never thought it would go out the way it did. You can probably read this third book on its own, without knowing the backstory, but you would miss so much.
I sat down to read just a little of this, and once again got sucked in, and we learn more and more about Wendell.
THanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest raeveiw. It is coming out from Oni Press the 5th of September 2023.
Beautiful and heartbreaking graphic novel exploring friendship and grief as Eliza, Marjorie, and Wendell solve the mystery of his life and death. The illustrations are gorgeous, and I especially loved the color change for Wendell's memories. The pacing on how these flashback panels are interspersed throughout the story build suspense perfectly and had me a crying wreck by the time we learn what happened to Wendell. Also teared up when Marjorie and her dad were talking about friendship. Highly recommend the entire series with this heartfelt conclusion. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read early.
Brenna Thummler's work is always award-worthy and so powerful for a wide range of readers. This third entry in Thummler's vision of this ghost-infused world is another triumph and delight -- sure to please and keep readers wanting more. I love the linking of supernatural and realism, and Thummler's style is impressive.
This final book in the Sheets series is such an absolute perfect end. It was so great to be back in this cute ghost world of Wendell, Marjorie and Eliza. Gosh, this was just so good and they finally uncovered what happened to Wendell in a murder mystery but is it? And I absolutely dig it! This book just hit me the hardest as it was so bittersweet. This series is really amazing and wholesome and I'm so glad I picked it up. I love this series so much and highly recommend everyone to read it.

This was such a cute read, that really got me emotional at the end. An absolutely perfect way to round off the trilogy.
#netgalleyarc I really enjoyed this final book of the series. The illustrations are as awesome and beautiful as ever and the story was well written. The underlying theme/morale was written and handled well. A definite future purchase for my HS library.
Concluding the Sheets trilogy, not that I'm sure I ever knew it was a trilogy until I saw this. Mysteries dominate here: the classic one is what happened to Wendell that he ended up as a sheet ghost in the first place, but then there are knottier ones, like how far can you forgive the bully's sidekicks once they part ways with the ringleader and start mostly playing nice? And what even is friendship anyway? For me the main attraction remains the less peopled scenes, the snowy graveyards, remembered childhood rooms and empty theatres, rendered on the page with just the right sense of poignant possibility. Though I did get a little distracted when the leads join an organised ghost hunt (well, the living leads - understandably, the ghost stays home) and one person in attendance doesn't really seem to be on everyone else's wavelength when it comes to the mood of the event. Yeah, it's not quite an I Think You Should Leave crossover, but it could have been, which was enough to set me off. I'm not sure it ever quite gets around the dreadful truth of the line "It's much harder to create light than it is to extinguish it", but it tries, which is the best one can do with that. And I feel very seen by Eliza's "My lowered expectations are still higher than the human standard".

I love this series! Thummler creates a complex world with beautiful artwork. I’d read anything they wrote.
What a great ending to this series!
The whole series is more emotional than I expected but this last book was a tender hug of a conclusion.
I loved that we got to see more about Wendell’s past and watch Marjorie figure out her social circle.
And the art! I love the style.
Thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for an eARC.
This was such a great finish to the series. It didn't quite have the emotional impact that the first two did but still tugged on the heart strings. I really liked where all of the characters ended things.
As always the artwork was wonderful!
I would definitely recommend this book to any fans of the series and overall I would recommend this series to readers of all ages!
"Lights" by Brenna Thummler is the third in the sheets duology continues from the first two following Marjorie and Wendell after everything that has happened.
I would give "Lights" by Brenna Thummler a 3-star review because, this is a cute story but it feels more meant for younger readers.
I have absolutely loved reading this whole series! Lights is such a lovely edition and it explores more if Wendals story. It is a heart warming story and teaches a lesson of how important it is to have friends that you can be yourself around. I loved this so much and rated it 4 stars overall!
I enjoyed the story of this - i am still not a huge fan of the art when humans are shown. I like the ghosts and how they are drawn but especially the human faces... they just don't look very nice to me, nor do they bring anything to the story in showing emotion or anything to me.
The story itself was nice thought.
I liked learning more about Wendell and liked seeing him being treated better than he was in book two as well.
I also enjoyed the ending of this book and i think it is overall a nice edition to the series.
If you love this series so far, definitely read this.
The third entry in the Sheets series finds Brenna Thummler picking up with Marjorie Glatt's life not too far after the events of Delicates (Sheets #2). Marjorie's birthday is approaching and while her family still griefs the loss of her mother, time and distance have helped them adjust. With her best friends, Eliza and Wendell, Marjorie makes plans for her big day. Trying to make up for his own devastation, her father tries to help, inviting more people in on the trip then planned. Will Marjorie be able to balance her responsibilities and friendships?
The other main story line in Lights centers on Wendell the ghost as he begins to recall moments from his life. After attending a speaking to ghost events there are some hints that his death was more mysterious then just a drowning. We gradually learn his human story through flashbacks as counterpoints to story events or what information is learned.
Marjorie and Eliza seek to uncover the truth, while also broadening their world and balancing their personal interests with spending time with others.
Light (as in the title) is a regular motif in the narrative and the artwork. One scene details the different lighting for dancers in a ballet. Another scene details the ways relationships with other people in your life can help brighten or dim your experience as demonstrated through Christmas tree lights.
Another touching and thoughtful exploration of friendship and growing older with a poltergeist murder (?) mystery.
I have adored reading all 3 parts of this series immensely. This was such a beautiful ending to a magnificent trio and I could not have thought of a better way to end it.
I re-read Sheets and Delicates before I started Lights! What a lovely series! Lights was a great ending to the story everything wrapped up really nicely.
A perfect ending to a beautiful series. The art work is stunning. The story is heart warming. A must read.
I have enjoyed the other two graphic novels in this series so I was so excited to see this available. I enjoyed getting to know more about Wendell. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review
As a fan of Sheets & Delicates I was really excited to see the third installment come up.
Lights has all of the same charm and wonder the first two graphic novels in this series does. The artstyle is incredibly unique and I adore the way the pages are colored. Its all very pleasing to the eye as you read and clear to follow. The writing holds up across the three books and I think Lights perfectly wrapped up the open storyline for Wendell.
Very enjoyable overall from start to finish!
