This was ok . I like plot and setting but felt it didn’t hold my interest like some books
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review book
The second installment of Emma Makepeace, an agent at a shadowy UK spy agency that focuses on Russian spies infiltrating Britain. Here she and the agency are trying to figure out why a low-level MI6 agent focused on numbers has been killed with a nerve poison. Emma tends to go her own way, intent on the pursuit. Bad Russians, with their money and mistresses, their drugs and weapons, a yacht, and a traitor. London, the South of France, skyscrapers, disguises, undercover work. The writing is workman like, the set-up fun. It's frothy stuff, and obviously there will be a ton of these Emma Makepeace books to come. Two might be my limit.
Thanks to Random House and Netgalley for the ARC.
Emma Handler is tasked with figuring out who killed a M16 officer in their home and locked them in a suitcase. After a search of the apartment nothing was found not even fingerprints. Emma begins to dig into the mans past looking a direction to take the investigation into. She soon learns he was obsessed to Russians who were based in London, he thought the two were spies. Emma decides to go undercover in hopes of uncovering the truth behind the mystery. Follow along and see if she makes it through her investigation or if her cover gets blown putting her in danger of ending up like the murdered man she was looking into.
This book was ok but honestly not my type of book and I did not get the plot. I wish I had been able to understand it more then what I xic
This is an enjoyable read. Emma is MI6 and undercover to find a fellow agents murder. This book is quick paced and interesting. I did figure out pretty early who the “third” man was, but it didn’t change my enjoyment of the book. I have not read book 1 of this series but I feel that you could read it without book 1.
What a rush! This book has thrills, danger, romance, and drama. I love a book that can suck you in and keep you guessing at every turn. Some of the characters do lean into stereotypes but that’s what some spy novels thrive on.

Ava Glass is the author of the espionage series Alias Emma. A former civil servant and journalist, she once worked closely with spies, and that experience fuels her writing. Ava is the pseudonym for an international bestselling author who has written more than ten crime novels under another name.
“Looks like we’re about to attempt the impossible.”
This book was fast-paced and intense from the beginning! I loved Emma and her passion for her cause and how she was fearless in the moment.
I think this series is going to be brilliant. It’s similar to the Tom Grant series by the incredible Samantha Adair but with a female agent. I love that!
Emma was such a great character. She is intelligent, compassionate, kind, and savvy. She leads with her head and heart but always gets the job done. She is fierce.
The characters were all well-defined and brought this story to life. The plot rolled along quickly; each scene was beautifully crafted. I am looking forward to continuing this fantastic series.
Give me all the Emma Makepeace! I absolutely love this series from Ava Glass and hope she never stops writing about this bad ass female James Bond! This time, Emma is undercover on a yacht off the French Riveria hunting down Russian drug lords and the setting, the suspense, the characters were all fantastic. Not only is Emma up against very dangerous criminals, she's also been double-crossed by, you guessed it, "The Traitor!" Someone in MI6 is working against Emma & it could end in her death. You want want to put this one down until the jaw-dropping conclusion! I'm already counting down to installment #3!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing a free advance copy of The Traitor by Ava Glass in exchange for an honest review.
The second spy thriller featuring MI6 operative Emma Makepeace, The Traitor follows Emma as she investigates a Russian chemical weapons plot and the purported criminals behind it - but does she have even more to fear from someone on her own side? Fast paced and tightly written with terrific detail (the yacht! The disguises! The gadgets!) that would make for one heck of a movie, The Traitor reads like a James Bond novel with a female lead. A quick entertaining read. I hope there are more of them coming. Four stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Emma Makepeace is chosen to go undercover on a yacht in the south of France to follow a lead on a murder of a government employee, she finds herself in over her head. As she works hard to keep her secret identity an actual secret, it appears there’s a traitor in the midst. Will she be able to make it off the yacht alive, or will the traitor be the one who blows her cover?
I read Alias Emma, Ava Glass’s previous book, and thought - if she ever writes a sequel, I want to read it. And here it is. The author does not disappoint. Emma is a committed MI6 agent. Her assignment is on a Russian’s massive yacht, and as a fellow agent reminds her - a boat this large is not an honest boat. Her goal is to find and stop the Russians who are trading in chemical warfare. The situation is complex and she volunteers for a second assignment when is becomes apparent that there is a mole inside the operation. The book is well-paced and it’s nice to see a female in espionage.
I received an ARC of this book. What a great spy story! Full of action and suspense. A real page-turner.
I'm giving this one 5 stars as an excellent beach read and super engaging whirlwind spy story. I was hooked from the start, following Emma the Spy to her undercover work on a Russian's yacht. I had not read the first book in this series but there was no issue - every character was introduced thoroughly and the few references to her previous assignments had no bearing on this story. It's well written, no obvious holes in the plot, and I wanted to read as fast as I could to find out what was going to happen next. The only downside is the cover which doesn't come close to showing the type of boat the story takes place on, the cover really has no relation to the story at all.
Very many thanks to NetGalley and Bantam for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. It's a fun story that you will whiz right through, and I would be happy to pick up other books in the series.
Emma Makepeace returns in The Traitor in another action=packed adventure. I very much enjoyed this book although it wasn't quite the edge-of-your-seat thriller that Alias Emma was. Still, I highly recommend reading this series.
Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for an advance copy.
There is a particular magic to a well=done second book in a spy/thriller/mystery series: we have the backstory, and now we can just hit the ground running on our next adventure. This is much more espionage focused than the first, which I liked way more. The Traitor gave me the exactly what I hope for in every spy novel: the moment of reveal where I audible gasp "I knew it!" even though I very much didn't *know* it, the thought had just crossed my mind.
Emma, is aboard a Super Yacht under the ownership of a Russian Oligarchy, who is a main character.. Sadly Emma seems way out of her depth, and not well trained in espionage. The way she goes about "spying" seems lacking in thought and smarts,
I did finish the book, and the ending was as I expected, which means it was fairly easy to figure out what was going to happen through out. So for me, just not a good spy thriller, though I'm sure that others might well enjoy it. .
I want to thank Netgalley, the publisher and the author for providing this ARC.
Emma Makepeace, Alias Emma, a British spy returns in her second adventure. This is a non-stop suspense romp against a Russian oligarch. Emma goes undercover to determine which of those on this floating hotel is the murderer!
In addition to murder who is the spy? Where does the information come from? Emma and Ripley, her handler, need to determine what is going on while keeping Emma’s identity a secret.
If her identity becomes known she’s a dead woman! This page turner leads you on a merry chase. I loved this book so much, now I have to go back and read her first adventure, Alias Emma. I hope Ava Glass intends to brind Emma back for more adventures.
The Traitor is a follow up to the author’s previous book, Alias Emma. That said, it can absolutely be read as a stand-alone novel. I think I enjoyed this book more than the first book! The author really hit her groove and kept me very intrigued the whole time. I sometimes struggle with spy novels, but this one is a rare exception for me! I hope there will be more books in this series!
What a great read! I really enjoyed this second book featuring the same characters from Alias Emma. It's nice to have the background from the first book, but it is not necessary to read it before reading this one. Fast paced and well written, with excellent character development. I look forward to recommending this book to our patrons.
Emma Makepeace is a spy. Her new assignment is to be a crew on a Russin oligarch's yacht. She received this assignment after a co-worker who was looking into this mans money trail is murdered. Once on the boat there is nowhere to hide or escape. Emma makes fast friends with the oligarch's girlfreind. As the girlfriend lets a few secrets out, Emma finds she is in danger of being discovered. Her concern grows as she sees her friend being loaded into a skiff and is never seen again. How will she escape?
Thanks netgalley, great book, wonderful author.
