This thriller was fast-paced, and overall I enjoyed it. Ethan, the "nice guy", was infuriating as the antagonist (which is a good thing). However, I was also sometimes infuriated at Sarah for not fully putting the pieces together at how toxic this guy is! The story was chilling, and I was pleasantly surprised at the twists and how the book ended.
Sarah denzil is a master with her books and this genre, she excels again with this one, Compelling characters and bone-chilling twists make this a must-read thriller.
Wow….a gripping page turner about a date that goes horribly wrong….devoured it in a day and loved it!!!!
I can always appreciate a novel with an interesting premise and this one hit that mark. It did start off politically which immediately left a sour taste IMO I prefer to not get political in books if I can avoid it. But it was a fast moving novel and I was intrigued from start to finish.
I loved this book. The book grabbed my attention as soon as I knew it was Sarah Denzil book and that title wow! This book was so full of twist that I almost had whip lash. I loved the characters and development of the story to that ending. One of my favorite books of the year!
3.5 stars
Okay, I actually enjoyed this. I had the book but it was also available on audible so I listened to it. I began to read but felt the audio was better.
I enjoyed the writing, and the plot, although it begins very generic girl meets boy, boy is a nice guy but secretly possessive.
I wasn’t expecting the plot twist in the middle…. That was exciting.
I’d definitely recommended If you fancy a quick domestic thriller read
Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
Oof, this book was exhausting. I was really enjoying the first 3 quarters of the book and thought the book should have ended there. I was not expecting the final twist in the last quarter, which frankly didn't make any sense, and it just felt like hitting the wall during a marathon trying to get finished with it. I generally like Sarah Denzil's books (The Silent Child is one of my all-time favorites), but this was not my favorite. Moral of the story: Do not facilitate in one night stands with strangers, as you don't truly know who these people are.
This was enjoyable until the third act. I don't think the third conflict was necessary; one or the other was needed and would have made the story the best possible version.
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
A tale of how a nice guy really isn’t so nice…this story is actually terrifying in detail of an obsessive, manipulative man…I can see this actually happening in real life. Good conclusion.
I really enjoyed this domestic thriller.
It does have domestic violence, and my heart went out to the main character, I was rooting for her the whole time whilst reading this book.
I enjoyed the twists and turns along the way, and the ending.
Thank you to net galley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Omg i will never think the same way again about nice guys lol. The story in essence Laura gets injured on a march and is helped by nice guy Ethan which leads to a one night stand. A proper date results in too many red flags and she tries to get him out of her life. Nice guys jackel and hyde.
The thing i loved about this is sadly the gaslighting, manipulation and red flags are sadly very true to life but still a taboo for debate. This touches on them on a really true to life way
I loved all the characters even the bad nice guy. The plot was fast paced very extreme at times full of twists and turns some too predictable but that didnt disturb my enjoyment. Could see scope for a sequel. Excellent writing made it a fab page turner.
Highly recommended 5 stars look firward to the next one.
Thank you net gallery and the publisher for my arc
I was absolutely hooked on this book from the second I picked it up! I can't believe I waited so long to start it because it was amazing and definitely thrilling
The book starts off with an intriguing premise as Laura encounters Ethan, a seemingly charming man who saves her from a crowded situation on the Brooklyn Bridge. The initial connection between the two characters is promising, leading to a passionate night and a surprising pregnancy for Laura, who had fertility issues. However, it is quickly revealed that Ethan has a dark side, as his attentiveness turns into obsession and control.
The book relies heavily on the contrast between Ethan's two personas: the nice guy and the manipulative sociopath. While this concept holds potential, it ultimately falls flat due to repetitive and predictable storytelling. The reader is continuously subjected to Ethan's aggressive and psychopathic behavior, which becomes monotonous and lacks nuance. The narrative fails to provide significant surprises or twists, leaving the reader waiting for a plot development that never truly materializes.
The pacing of the story is uneven, with sporadic jumps in the narrative that disrupt the flow and leave gaps in character development. It becomes difficult to empathize with the characters as their motivations and actions often lack depth and believability. Laura's decision to maintain contact with Ethan despite his escalating behavior becomes frustrating and undermines her credibility as a protagonist.
While the book initially shows promise in exploring themes of obsession and control, it fails to deliver a captivating and suspenseful experience. The suspense weakens as the story progresses, and the reader is left longing for a more intricate plot and a satisfying resolution. The book feels unnecessarily long-winded at times, detracting from the overall enjoyment.
To sum it up it falls short of its potential as a psychological thriller. Despite a compelling premise and an initially engaging setup, the repetitive nature of the story, underdeveloped characters, and lack of significant plot twists leave the reader feeling unsatisfied. It is a disappointing read that fails to deliver on its promises.
First of all, thank you so much to the publishers and to netgalley for my early read of The Nice Guy in exchange for my honest review.
After being knocked down at a women's march, Laura meets a mysterious and handsome man named Ethan. He appears to be a nice guy and after exchanging numbers the two go on a date and have a one night stand. Things take a complicated turn as Ethan starts to show signs of control and obsession and Laura is no longer interested in getting to know Ethan. More complications arise and Laura's life quickly turns into a nightmare along with all the people she loves.
Wow. Wow. Wow. This is my second time reading from Sarah Denzil and I think this might be my new favourite of hers. What a great partnership as well with SL Harker being Co writer. I was utterly blown away with this one. It reminded me of a few recent novels I've enjoyed as well. If you enjoyed I Spy by Clare, Pearl In Deep by Faith Gardner or Into The Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes then you need to read The Nice Guy. I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to read this and so look forward to any future projects from both Sarah Denzil and SL Harker.
5 stars!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've read one book prior by Sarah and this was another fun, twisted thriller that had me intrigued and my interest held throughout!
I thought this was well written, good characterization, good plot as well that was a tad unbelievable but thats what made it fun. I finished it very quickly.
This was a fast-paced thriller that went in a different direction than I expected. It’s centered on Laura, who has a great first date with Ethan but then realizes he is not who she thought he was. Then she ends up pregnant from that very first date and struggles with his involvement in her and her baby’s lives.
I struggled a bit with Laura, who did not connect what felt to me like very obvious dots when bad stuff started happening to her. I did appreciate her dogged efforts to keep herself and her son out of Ethan’s grasp, though. There were some surprises and a general frenetic pace through the seemed half of the book that I enjoyed. The ending of the book was just ok for me; she didn’t make one decision that I hoped she would make, and there was some uncertainty in her future that I wish had been tied up.
Overall, fast paced and fun read that was quick for me, despite questioning some of Laura’s decisions. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
I requested this book as i was drawn in by the cover and thought it looked interesting
I really enjoy this authors writing style and unique storylines.
Another awesome story by Sarah
This book gets more and more intense and suspenseful as you read it, and doesn't let up until the very end!
Twists that you don't see coming, What a great roller-coaster ride of a thriller
Thanks again for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
In this story we follow Laura right when she meets Ethan at a march, he helps her when she falls and they end up spending the night together… afterwards Ethan asks her on a date and that’s when she starts seeing all the red flags.. the nice guy isn’t so nice after all. He starts to call her and text her nonstop and she tries to put a stop to it but he shows his true colors, until one day he goes to her office to apologize and she thinks the matter is settled.
But is not: soon she finds out she is pregnant and has to co parent with Ethan. Everything goes well for a while but weird things start happening in her life; someone impersonates her and gets her fired, someone breaks into her apartment, so she is alone and jobless.
Things start to take a crazy turn when Ethan reveals his sociopathic nature and Laura is forced to put limits that Ethan is not going to like. Everything speeds up until the worst happens….
This was an amazing book, I read it in a day. It’s truly frightening because it felt so real and we’ve all heard stories that could’ve ended up like this one in real life.
I loved it and was invested until the turn in Greece, it just didn’t make sense the police would’ve been so stupid.
I did like the ending though.
Overall an enjoyable read.
Laura was pretty sure there weren’t any nice guys in New York City – until she met Ethan. She meets him when he saves her after she falls during a peaceful protest and is nearly crushed by the crowd. One thing leads to another and after their one-night stand, Laura is pregnant. With some misgivings, Laura tells Ethan that he’s going to be a father and he’s over the moon. But, did she make the right decision?
The Nice Guy is a story of obsession, manipulation, and emotional abuse, as well as a mother’s love for her child. Mostly I enjoyed the story, but the latter part seemed to drag and became a little unbelievable. It just seemed to take too long to reach the final resolution and some of the suspense had begun to fizzle.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
This was a different book, I have not read Sarah before, I found this one to be a tough read, I figured the twist out early on which is always a bummer. It felt slow and I had to push myself to finish.
Thanks for the advance chance to read.
