I love Sarah A. Denzil! I was so excited to get a NetGalley copy of this book. This book was thrilling and suspenseful. I was fully invested in the plot and the characters. The book sucked me in and held my attention until the very last page.

I've read and enjoyed many Sarah A. Denzil novels so had high hopes for this one; the first l've read where she partners with S L Harker.

It’s a fantastic page-turning domestic thriller.

The story starts with a chance encounter; the protagonist, Laura, is removed from a harmful situation by a charming man, Ethan.

A drink, turns to a date, turns to a child.

Ethan's loving and attentive nature soon gives way to a narcissistic obsessive sociopath. Laura then must fight for her and her son's survival.

It's rare I hate a character so much that it causes a visceral response. I had to keep reading to see if they got what was coming to them. I can't imagine reading this as mother, or anyone who has been in a controlling relationship.

The characters were well developed, and the shift in relationship was cleverly written.

I am still reeling from the ending of the book . The book had twists and turns and an unbelievable ending. The book tells the story of Laura who has the strangest meet cute with the nicest guy in New York or she thinks. Because of this meet cute they end sleeping together and falling pregnant which was deemed impossible because of her fertility challenges, Nothing is always perfect as she discovers that the man of her dreams is also a nightmare.. It's an ode to what mothers will do for their kids.

Oh this a conflicting book…. I have so many mixed feelings about The Nice Guy.
In this book we meet Laura. A single lady who moved to NYC after a divorce and multiple miscarriages. When she goes to a woman’s march with her best friend, she meets Ethan. A very attractive men, who she ends up with spending the night. However the next day it is quickly revealed that Ethan might have a very controlling side and Laura is determined to leave it at one night. When she finds out she is pregnant, Laura needs to make the hard decision of letting Ethan into her life and that of her son.
I absolutely loved the first two parts of the book. I loved to delve into the aggressive and controlling nature of Ethan. He is the sort of villain I love to read about. I was intrigued with the relationship he has with his mother and the way Laura was navigating all this. The story was very solid, with a lot of tension in the air. Perfect for this kind of thriller.
But then.. part 3.. the part where Ethan kidnaps his son. (This is no spoiler, it is mention in the synopsis) the book just goes of the rails. Away with the creepy atmosphere and the tension. The story disintegrates and just develops into something completely unrealistic. Especially the big cliff hanger… someone must have been on drugs when writing such an unbelievable plot twist.
This would have been a solid 4 stars based on part 1 and 2. Based on part 3 I cant go higher then 2 stars. So I guess I will settle on 3 to be fair.

Boy, did this book give me anxiety! It was a great read that kept me entertained to the end. Scarily this could happen to many women in real life. Laura has a one night stand with a handsome, nice guy, who turns into a controlling, toxic psycho. After their first date Laura decides she doesn’t want to ever see Ethan again after his rude behavior to the waitress, but Ethan doesn’t know how to take silence as an answer. He begins texting Laura over and over until getting a reply. Laura then she finds out she is pregnant. She is excited about the baby, but is unsure about having Ethan apart of the baby’s life. Laura decides to tell Ethan about the baby and co parent with him. This does not go well for Laura as Ethan is just as controlling and opinionated over her parenting of “his” baby.

SUMMARY:

Laura meets the nicest guy she's ever met when he saves her from a stampeding protest march. He takes her out on a few dates, wining and dining her. Their chemistry quickly ends when he shows her that his nice guy persona is just an act. However she's now tied to him forever, after getting pregnant during their one night together. He's obsessive and controlling and very opinionated about "his baby boy".

MY THOUGHTS:

First off- how terrifying would this be?! Just to have to interact with such a psychopath but to have a baby with him? A nightmare. I was so sympathetic towards Laura and the situation she ended up in.

I overall was interested in the book and wanted to know what would happen. There were lots of different parts. That sort of felt disconnected. Particularly the last part felt like it didn't mesh with the rest of the book- even though the plot did. The time passing felt a little strange...

I love reading about a good toxic relationship, so naturally I wanted more of the dating/falling in love/ developing parts of the story. It was only a few dates so there wasn't much focus on it and then he seemed to keep himself in check, until he didn't.

Overall felt sort of neutral about this book, it was interesting but nothing really pulled me in like I wanted it to.

This book drew me in straight away. It kicked right into the storyline which is fab! You can tell from the get go that something isn't quite right regarding Ethan. He is the Mr nice guy, spoiling Laura but the Mr nice guy image quickly fades

This book keeps you drawn in. It's an easy storyline to remember also which is a plus, as I find some books I find difficult to remember what I've read and where I'm at!

Classic narcissism storyline with a horrible twist just after half way! What a fantastic read. Would recommend! 10 out of 10!

I wasn't sure about the book to start took me a while to get into but once did couldn't put it down...

Laura lives in New York after moving from London after her divorce, and during woman's march she meets Ethan (The Nice Guy) but is he???
He's her savior when she nearly gets trampled in the crowd, he is the perfect guy that it leads to Laura going home with him...
BUT things take a turn when on a date he is not the same he is rude and arrogent, this is red flag to Laura. And when she tries to let him down he turns Jekyll and Hyde.
Then she finds out she's pregnant and with the miscarriage's she has had before not sure if will go full term so she waits a bit.
Even though a lot of red flags she tells Ethan and at first he seems great but slowly things change and he back to his controlling possessive behavior and once the baby is born it gets worse and this is where the book starts to pick up and i couldn't put it down.
Not going to say anymore as you should read it to find out what happens.

This book started out very strong. I liked the premise of the story and the thought of the hero becoming the jerk. Then in the end becoming the all out villain. I could have gone without the last part of the book. Ethan was pushed off a cliff and died, then he wasn't? Did he really have to come back for one final scare? I'm not going to lie though, I wouldn't recomemend this to anyone as it was repetitive and I felt like this had been done before. Just wasn't the happy ended I wanted. I wanted her to end up with Lucas and I wanted him to finally rescue her. But I guess that's my story.

This book was really good… I liked the direction it went with the relationship between the protagonist and Ethan. It was entertaining and mostly faced paced until about 75% in; then it picked up again at the end. Although, the last few chapters were a let down. They were completely far-fetched, but entertaining nonetheless. I would have rated this novel 5 stars, but had to rate it 4 because of the ending. Sarah Denzil is a highly talented author and a master of psychological fiction. I recommend reading this novel and all her others.

This book started off really good and I had high hopes for it and just kept waiting for some twists and turns but it didn't really happen it was all a bit predictable and unbelievable but it won't put me off reading other books by this author

I was gripped until about 20 percent.

We do live in a terrible world, there are terrible people in it but this book is beyond belief, there were so SO many red flags and yet still Laura returns to this aggressive man she has no need to be with, she’s not even interested in him but puts her and her unborn child in danger.

No friends step in, despite them being able to.

Writing like this makes women look awful.

This was an easy binge read! Found myself reaching for my kindle often to try and squeeze in more chapters when I couldn’t just sit and binge. Some aspects seemed a little far fetched but it was entertaining! Thanks for the early read to the authors and NetGalley!

Previously I have enjoyed every novel by this author and am sorry to say on this occasion this book just didn’t interest me at all. I gave up at 32% I just did not find it a good read it felt very forced and each page seemed almost predictable I am not sure whether it’s because it’s a joint venture with another author but for me it didn’t work.

Laura thought she found a great guy after he saved her from being trampled in a crowd in New York. They had drinks and then had a one night stand. Once they go on a real date, Laura realizes Ethan isn’t what she thought and decides to move on.

When Laura realizes she’s pregnant, Ethan is great at first but then becomes controlling. She starts to suspect that he’s behind everything that’s going wrong in her life. What lengths will Ethan go to to make sure Laura does what he wants?

I liked the beginning of the book but then it started to fall a bit flat for me. It had a lot of filler that seemed like it was meant to draw out the suspense but it just made the book longer than necessary. I wasn’t a fan of the ending either. I’d still recommend trying this book and I’ll be reading more books from these authors.

I've read a few books by Sarah A. Denzil and I really liked them. So, when this book became available on Netgalley I didn't hesitate and I'm glad to have done that - this is an absolute great thriller! I received it from Victory Editing NGC via Netgalley and it'll be out on the 30th of May.

We follow Laura who meets Ethan on a women's march. They hit it off but she gets some red flags with specific things Ethan does. So she breaks with him. Then, things start to happen ending in her being stalked. It gets horrible at some point - even up to the point of life or death.

The few main characters are great - worked out well and clearly described with all the flaws they have.
The story is, at first, one in a dozen, but it evolves into a brilliantly written thriller. The ending is absolutely amazing.
