Talk about a twister of a story. Madison what sort of people have you surrounded yourself around girl. I can hear Bradley shouting now, Girl how could you keep a secret like this from me. Your friends are crazy like no other. Please do not ask me to go on an outing again.
I did love the thrill and suspense of the book, The book does have some high action, but itโs the anxiety from running from the dark intruder that pushes the book to the limit of a good read. The writing was entertaining and most intriguing. The writer never wavered from sharing with the readers a suspenseful surprise that was jaw dropping in the end. Until next time my fellow readers.
Read on!
I have been dying to find a good slasher that wasnโt focused solely on the detectives side but from the side of the victims and this book exceeded my expectations!
I loved being able to feel the emotions victims felt as they struggle through their grief and fear of being next.
Finding out who it was at the end had me so mad because I second guessed myself the whole time as to who the killer was.
Highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author!

First of all, thank you so much to the publishers and to netgalley for my early read of Whisper in exchange for my honest review.
After losing her best childhood friend Amy, Madison grapples with death happening all around her. Not just any kind of death, but murder. The Killer leaves her clues with each murder but who's behind it all? The closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she finds herself in. At what cost will Madison find the real killer?
I absolutely loved this one. It took me back to some of my childhood and truly reminded me of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream. I wholeheartedly related to the fact that Dearborn was inspired by a story he wrote in as a pre-teen as I also plan to finish and publish a short story I wrote in high school. This was my first time reading Brian's work and I am so so looking forward to reading anything and everything by him after reading Whisper.
5 perfect stars!!!!!!โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
the story itself is a solid ode to classic slasher films, and i especially enjoyed the opening chapter! however, the choppy writing and dialogue was a little distracting for me. would definitely recommend if looking for a quick, fun slasher summer horror!
Such a fun popcorn-style thriller! This gave me all the 90โs horror movie nostalgia and I could absolutely imagine this on the big screen. The perfect summer thriller!
I wanted to love this one but it was just okay. It's a fast read with a couple surprises but mostly I felt like I knew what was coming. The end felt unfinished.
First: thank you to both Brain Dearborn and Netgalley for my arc.
Whisper was something i stumbled upon from other arc reads and instantly knew i needed it in my life, actually the reason i made a Netgalley account in the first place once i found out it was on there. The book was a fast pace ride through insanity. I could never pin point who i thought the killer would turn out to be and normally i can so the author did amazing job hiding the true identity until needed.
Overall Whisper was just an amazing read and a start to what could be an amazing career for Brian.
Whisper - Brian Dearborn
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
What a fun and exciting read, I am adding this one to my "best mystery/thrillers of the year" list!
IGotta give this book 5 stars, it is a "slasher movie" of a novel, it starts out at 100 MPH and continues climbing from there, I thoroughly enjoyed it! ๐๐
One additional comment, I noticed that despite the increasing number of dead bodies, the characters STILL insisted on going to the gym (ALONE), going over to a house to get forgotten keys (ALONE) - and when the character gets to her house (3 or 4 dead friends later, in the movie / story) she doesn't worry that: the door was unlocked, her friend doesn't respond when she calls her name, the house is torn apart, (to the point where the chandelier is dangling a foot above the bed, I mean, come ON someone would have had to CAUSE that level of disarray, everyone KNOWS that, right?
This MUST be an intentional tip of the hat to 80's and 90's slasher movies, in which the characters NEVER seem to realize they are STILL in danger before they see ANOTHER dead body, but only the author knows for sure!
Honestly, defeating these mad slashers wouldn't take a genius...
Get a friend, buy two semi-auto Ruger's, or, if guns make you nervous, you can buy stun guns and/or tasers and "bear spray". Order pizza, (well, maybe not pizza, as the delivery person could be a killer) so you can stay IN, call in sick, and you and your friend hole up in ONE of your homes, sitting either in a corner TOGETHER, side-by-side, or even back-to-back (so no one can sneak u behind you). Finally, wait until the freakily prolific serial killer rampaging through your town is caught or killed, OR the slasher just reached your name on his ""kill list", when he saunters into your house (expecting no one with defenses greater than... oh I don't know...the Energizer bunny? A cotton ball? You get the idea) then you TAKE THE SICK PUPPY OOUUUTTT!
Wow, that review was.. intense. ๐
Oh, I almost forgot, trigger warning re: graphic violence. By the end of this novel, there had been a few eviscerations, a decapitation or two, and more.
Until next time... Stay safe, smart to and ARMED.
Whisper by Brian Dearborn is this author's first novel. I hope he writes more. Whisper is a very good book. The story had good twists and page-turning action. How can you go wrong with murder, mystery, a serial killer, and well-developed characters?
Fresh off a breakup and finally coming to terms with her father's death, young biotech professional Madison Parker is ready to move forward with her life in California. That is until her hometown best friend from affluent Connecticut is viciously murdered.
With Madison still reeling from the tragedy, the killer begins to target other members of her inner circle, and she finds herself at the center of a string of increasingly brutal murders that span coast to coast. As she struggles to understand the killer's motive and protect her remaining friends, she realizes it's only a matter of time before she becomes a victim of the deadly game.
The cover is also very cool. I would recommend this book. A solid 4 out of 5 stars for me.

Ohhhh this was good! 90s slasher fans unite! We have ourselves a fast paced horror novel! Some of these scenes were terrifying! Neve, Drew, and Jennifer Love Hewitt would be proud! I couldnโt put this book down and was pretty mad I had to work today and couldnโt finish it until tonight.
I read this book (coming out in July) thanks to Netgalley! Madison is enjoying her adult life until her dad does, then her best friend is killed, and now more people she knows are being murdered. The only question is, who is doing the killing? If you're a fan of the Scream movies; this book is for you. It was such a fast paced book with great characters and you were rooting for them to win. I found myself guessing the whole way through and trying to put clues together and still being at least a little surprised at the whole reveal. The authors writing kept you engaged and able to imagine the scenes without being grotesque. My only real critique was the dialogue between characters felt too forced/unrealistic.
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
Wow! Wasn't expecting that! Great book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, serial killer, a great who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
