I love when I go to a restaurant I have a favorite thing to eat because once I find something that i enjoy eating some where I get fixated on only eating that every time I go. Like the Muffin tops at Kneaders they taste so good but I could never go every other day. So if I have the option to make it at home I will 100 percent try making it at home and I love that the recipe is in this book. Plus it give back story on the family and I love learning that kind stuff.
This is a fantastic cookbook. I love the layout, the sections, the recipes. It's the cookbook you want around for all the meals, for the family gatherings, the holidays. There is something for any occasion and everyone.
From breakfasts and lunches to soups, salads and desserts this cookbook is filled with recipes to try and fall in love with. I really appreciate how many of these recipes have pictures as well to give you an idea of what you are working for. Easy to read instructions are another bonus to this cookbook. The end results are delicious, melt in your mouth fantastic. If you are a fan of Kneaders you'll love being able to bring their recipes to your own home.
Whether or not you have been to this yummy bakery and cafe, this is a cookbook to have in your kitchen. So many different recipes to enjoy, smells to fill your home with and experiences to be had over good food.
*I received an advanced copy from the publisher/author and all opinions are my own.
Beautiful cookbook that follows the story of family through their recipes. The photos are really nice. I would have preferred the measurements given also in grams. If not given, I have to get on the task of converting them, oh well…. Wish they add those in a later edition.
The recipe collection is very interesting, from classics like blueberry muffins (great recipe with lemon and buttermilk) to a nice variety of yeast breads. I was very surprised at the sandwiches and interesting salads. I love this collection of recipes and I feel they were put together with lots of love. I highly recommend this book, those of us like me who like measurements in gram, just convert it …totally worth the trouble.
Great book!!
I had never heard of this company (being an east coaster) before this book, but requested an ARC of it when I saw it on one of my favorite publisher's list; I'm always looking for delicious new recipes.
I always enjoy learning the personal stories that go along with recipes. If you're familiar with Kneaders, you'll probably enjoy the personal anecdotes and spotlights on key people even more.
I'm excited about the collection of recipes. So far, I've tried two (wedding soup was my favorite so far), both delicious, both crowd pleasers in my home. I also really liked that there are practical tips with most every recipe. I feel like I've bookmarked half the book and I can't wait to try out more - most especially breads and desserts!
If you are a cookbook reader, you will like this book. It give history of the Kneaders restaurant story and some of the favorite recipes. I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to read this. It is an interesting story and if you like to cook/bake, you are in for a treat.
Great local cookbook. Maybe locals love Kneaders and love these recipes. There are a few more I wished were in here, like the chicken noodle soup.
I would not recommend this book as an ebook, but I would purchase this as a physical book. Love the recipes I’ve tried, it’s fun to see the stories of the owner. I go to this food establishment a couple times a year and I look forward to being able to try more recipes. I did wish there were more of their pastry recipes.
I feel like I hit the jackpot with secret recipes! One of the best things about Kneaders is that our bookclub meets there once a month! The second best thing is the food and now having the recipes is a bonus. The salad recipes are delicious as are the sandwiches. This recipe book is already well loved and my family has loved everything i have made so far. Thanks Kneaders!
A beautiful book of recipes. Great photos and well-written instructions. A great addition to any kitchen collection.
I have to admit that I have never heard of Kneaders Bakery and Cafe, but that is only because they do not have a location in my part of Texas. I did discover they have locations in San Antonio, so next time I am in that neck of the woods I plan to check them out.
I am a sucker for a cookbook with a multitude of breakfast options, along with soups and sandwiches. I tend to get in a rut when it comes to sandwiches, so I always like a little inspiration. There are also several french toast recipes that I know my family would enjoy, so that will have to be a weekend treat. While I can't get their bread here to make some of the recipes, any good thick bread should work, depending on the recipe.
A fun recipe in the cookie section is the Gingerbread Mummy Cookies. This is a twist on a gingerbread cookie where the icing makes them look like a mummy. Great for the Halloween holiday. There is even one called a Spider Cookie that you might recognize as a different name, Haystacks.
Outside of the multitude of dishes, the family shares their story and history. I enjoyed learning about the family behind Kneaders, their hopes, dreams, and history. There are stories sprinkle throughout with the recipes too. It is more than just a cookbook; it is a story of the family, their dreams and their struggles.
This is one cookbook that will used quite often for gatherings with friends and family.
We give this book 5 paws up.
I know this is a cookbook but that’s not even my favorite part of this book. It’s the family. It’s the stories. I’ve never wanted to be adopted by a stranger but I would love to join this family. Such a lovely group.
Ok now to the recipes! They look amazing. Not all of them are easy but they are written well so you can follow the steps. I wish there were more pics but that’s my only negative.
Kneaders Bakery & Cafe is a brilliant collection of recipes and tutorials by Colleen Worthington. Released 3rd Oct 2023 by Shadow Mountain Publishing, it's 352 pages and is available in hardcover format.
This is a huge collection of family-gathering-worthy high quality recipes with eye appeal, quality ingredients, and taste. The author(s) are known for artisanal breads and baked goods, but their restaurants also serve soups, sandwiches, and other foods, and this is a huge compilation of menu items to prepare at home.
The recipes are arranged thematically: breakfast, salad, sandwiches, soups, drinks, breads, dips & spreads, stuffings & croutons, cakes & trifles, cookies & bars, pies & puddings, and sweets & treats. Recipes include an introduction/background, bullet list of ingredients in a sidebar, and full prep and cooking directions. Ingredient measures are provided in imperial (American) units only. Nutritional information is not included.
Most ingredients will be readily available at any moderately large grocery store in North America.
The photography is clear and in color throughout the book. Serving suggestions are attractive, well styled, and appetizing. The author has also included highlighted text boxes with alternative presentations and "Tasty tips" for improving the recipes.
Five stars. This is a really well rounded collection and would make a superlative choice for public library acquisition, for holiday gifting, and for home use. It is full of classic recipes and will become a standard go-to in the kitchen. There are many many cookie/cake/sweets recipes which are perfect for get-togethers, potlucks, and holiday entertaining.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
I had no knowledge of this chain going into the book but I was drawn to it and the cover. I enjoyed reading about the history of the chain. The recipes are fantastic and weave so many traditions throughout them. This book was laid out in a wonderful way and the recipes easy to read and follow.
I haven't tried a recipe yet but I love how this book is set up with the history and behind the scenes. It shares stories from the family and how Kneaders came to be.
I received a free ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
I've never been to a Kneaders Bakery, so it was a nice surprise when I took a look at this book. There are a lot of beautiful pictures and classic bakery ideas inside. If you are a fan of Kneaders, I think you'll probably enjoy this cookbook not only for the recipes, but for the stories and anecdotes from the owner too. Definitely a nice general baking cookbook!
A collection of mouthwatering, delicious recipes. Filled with heart to warm you during the winter. I can wait to try all of these recipes. I guess we all know what I’ll be doing on my snow days.
My new favorite cookbook. I love Kneaders so I was very excited to see they have a new cookbook and included recipes for some of their most popular foods! They even include some fun Halloween treats.
This is a beautiful hardcover cookbook with gorgeous pictures and just enough info at the beginning of the recipes to know the background etc but not so much you feel like you’re reading someone’s wordy blog. The few sentences they include are interesting and worth reading. It is much more substantial than I expected with over 150 recipes, not counting the many variations, with full page color photos interspersed with 14 short stories about their family and restaurant. The tribute to The Mother Warrior might even make you cry.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this cookbook.
This cookbook, Kneaders Bakery & Cafe, is focused on the same named place ran by the author and her husband. I've never heard of this place nor eaten there, but it does sound like it has amazing food.
Now, there are many recipes in this book that look absolutely delicious and I'd love to make myself. That's the positive here. But - and this is a personal thing - the stories were a bit much for me. I love that this family wants to share their history, but I grew tired of reading so much about them and not the recipes that I started skipping around it all.
Another thing is that some of the recipes call for Kneaders bread or some other item that only Kneaders has, but there wasn't a recipe for it, so we could make it ourselves. That's a little frustrating.
I feel this cookbook will be fine for those who eat at Kneaders, live in that area, know the family, or don't mind cookbooks with more backstories of the author than of actual recipes.
I was so excited to get this cookbook since Kneaders is local. I love baking and was anxious to try many of the desserts. This book contains traditional recipes and some non traditional. Each recipe I tried was loved and got great reviews. I feel like most cookbooks only have a couple of recipes I would enjoy. This one had several.
Now that it’s soup season, I’m ready to explore even more of this cookbook. Nothing tastes better with soup then fresh bread. There are several bread recipes that are calling my name.
There’s a great variety of recipes in this book and even the pickiest eater will find several things to love.
If you are looking for the perfect cookbook to prepare for upcoming family gatherings, this is it! For many years Kneaders Bakery has been a staple for families all across the Southwest. As they celebrate their 25th anniversary, the Worthington family is sharing some of their favorite recipes.
In this beautiful recipe book, there’s an inspiring history of how the restaurant chain got started as well as fun stories behind the recipes. The gorgeous illustrations & delicious recipes make this a must have.
👩🍳The cookbook is divided into the following sections:
Breakfast foods
Salads
Sandwiches
Soups
Drinks
Breads
Dips & Spreads
Stuffings & Croutons
Cakes & Trifles
Cookies & Bars
Pies & Puddings
Sweets & Treats
Along with step by step instructions are tasty tips to help even the most seasoned cook. I especially loved the soup, bread, cake, and cookie recipes. I can’t wait to try even more.
Definitely one to add to your cookbook collection. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.
