I wasn't familiar with the Kneaders bakery story but it was very interesting. Artisan bread is very popular now and this cookbook shares some of their favorites. It not only has bread and baked goods but also salads and sides to go with the breads. Lovely pictures to go along with all the recipes. I can't wait to try the Overnight Peach Cobbler French Toast! It looks so easy. The sandwiches on that wonderful bread I want to reach into the page and grab a piece. I don't have words to describe the desserts. I gained 10 pounds looking at the Black Forest Cake. With the help of the Worthington's and this book you will become a better baker.
This is a great cookbook! I am a huge bread lover, so having some additional recipes from a bakery I enjoy is always a great addition to my kitchen! I really enjoyed the short stories about the store, the owners and some employees. I made a few of the recipes and they all turned out SO good!!.
I have a weakness for cookbooks, especially bread cookbooks. I really want to be a bread baker! I'm definitely an amateur but I try!
This cookbook is so much more than bread. I loved the stories and background information given. Being from Tennessee, I'm not familiar with Kneaders Bakery Cafe, but now I want to go!
So many of the recipes look and sound so delicious. I have sat and just read through them, bookmarking them along the way. I really appreciate that there are "Tasty tips" at the end of the recipe for extra information or well ummm tips!
I really want to purchase this cookbook when it comes out. I think the pictures would better in a book.
There are some formatting issues and it seems like some recipes are missing from my advanced digital copy provided by Shadow Moutain Publishing and Netgalley.
I have not tried to make any of the recipes yet, but like I mentioned, I have read over them. The directions seem easy to follow and are detailed. I will definitely be using this often.
What a wonderful book full of delicious recipes!!! I really enjoy eating at Kneaders. So I can’t wait to try them all.
This is a fun collections of recipes and stories that many will love. I have been to the Kneaders restaurant many, many times over the years and it’s been neat to read the stories of how things came to be and about some of our favorite treats. Kneaders does have some recipes on their website and I’ve been making some things, particularly their caramel French toast syrup, for a long time, but it is nice to have in it a collection with other favorites. This would make a lovely gift.
I have never actually visited a Kneaders store so I was curious to learn about the history of the store and find some good recipes!
Well, the narrative in the book is very 'fairytale we wanted our kids to know the value of work and then they all grew up, married and now work for our company! Ugh. It is laid on pretty thick and just seems 'too easy' and 'too perfect'.
The recipes have a lot of variety BUT all of the sandwich and a lot of the breakfast dishes list Kneader specialty breads as one of the ingredients. So, as someone who doesn't live anywhere near a store, there are a lot of recipes I will need to adjust. I was also hoping for some good baking tips on actual bread making but I guess those are kept aside for 'trade secrets'.
Overall, a nice cookbook, with a good blend of narration, recipes, and photos. I only wish they had chosen to included the bread recipes they chose for the recipes they use said bread as an ingredient.
Thus would be a great cookbook for a Kneader fan!
Gorgeous cookbook full of delicious looking recipes and mouthwatering photos! This is one of those cookbooks that you would want to cook every single recipe that is in it! There are recipes for breakfast, salads, sandwiches, soups. Drinks, breads, dips, croutons, cakes, cookies, pies and more. Definitely a great one to have at home or to give as a gift to someone for Mother’s Day. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
It was a great cookbook. Can’t ever go wrong with Kneaders. Stories and background info was so interesting.
I felt as if I was drawn into this beautiful family. Every page was filled with the love and joy that went into this book. It was a refreshing cookbook and would be a wonderful addition ro one’s collection
Oh my goodness a Kneader’s cookbook is basically what dreams are made of! First of all this is a huge cookbook full of so many recipes I cannot wait to make, my mouth was watering just looking through the pictures and reading the recipes! The photographs are beautiful and all of the food looks so good! There were a few Kneaders staples that were absent from the book that I would have loved to see since they are my all time favorite, but I guess I’ll let them have a few secrets! Namely chunky cinnamon bread, mint brownies and the Turkey bacon avocado salad! But I think all the rest of the recipes make up for it and the cannot wait to cook my way through with my family!
I thought this was a fun cookbook. I loved all the background stories and information about people who have play a significant role, in one form or another, in the success of Kneaders. It was interesting to learn about.
I just finished reading this a few minutes ago so I haven't tried out the recipes myself but I have eaten at Kneaders so any failure in the recipes MUST be user error. The book includes recipes for breakfast, sandwiches, soups, dips and spreads, stuffings and croutons, breads, and a large variety of desserts. I'm a sucker for desserts and I'll tell you that those pictures look scrumptious. Actually, the photos look scrumptious in all the categories, not just dessert.
One thing that surprised me is that not all the recipes included have actually been used in the cafe. Some of them are sentimental family recipes or in some cases inspired their own version of the recipe. A number of the recipes have been retired from their cafes but were used at some point in time.
I think this cookbook gives a lot of recipes to try out and will be fun to use.
*I received a complimentary ARC through NetGalley and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love Kneaders so I was so excited to get to review this cookbook! The pictures in this cookbook make all of these dishes look delicious and I can’t wait to try a few out myself. The cookbook is aesthetically pleasing and the stories behind many of the recipes are a fun addition. I love how a cookbook can also become a storybook! I would highly recommend this cookbook to anyone who loves some good breakfast food! That’s my favorite!
Thank you to Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This cookbook has all of the staple recipes you would expect from a cafe that makes its goods from scratch. Recipes include breads and sandwiches, soups and salads, pies and pastries, and all kinds of desserts.
There are several unique recipes in the book including cinnamon French Toast stuffed with jam and mascarpone, raspberry bread pudding, and lasagna soup.
One of the areas that sets this book apart is cake mixes -- for a basic yellow or chocolate cake, they have 3 recipes. One is a simple from-scratch recipe, one is ingredients to add to your favorite boxed cake mix, and another is the ultimate from-scratch cake to make for special occasions.
Recommended for fans of the bakery/cafe and cooks who like recipes with a spin on the classics.
Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
*********************************************************
The story of Kneaders bakery and café began with Colleen and Gary Worthington baking traditional European bread in their kitchen. After mastering old-world bread-baking techniques and testing countless recipes, Colleen, Gary, and their growing team of bakers moved on to their signature artisan bread. Now they have gathered their best recipes in this commemorative cookbook, which includes Rosemary Focaccia, Jalapeño Cheddar, Garlic Mushroom Bruschetta, Irish Soda Bread, Sesame Semolina Bread, and many more.
But bread is just the beginning. Kneaders is well-known for their mouth-watering soups and sandwiches as well as their delectable pies and pastries. For the first time, home cooks have access to popular recipes such as Chunky Cinnamon Stuffed French Toast, Hot Artichoke Crab Dip, Three-Cheese Cauliflower Soup, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Blueberry Sour Cream Pie. Beautiful and appetizing food photos accompany each recipe. What began in Colleen Worthington's kitchen twenty-five years ago has grown into a successful family-owned bakery and café business with time-tested, delicious recipes in this one-of-a-kind anniversary cookbook.
