Romance, magic and ancient Latin.
This is a shapeshifter novel with a difference.
Centered around pack member Hudson, he meets PhD student Yazmin while searching the archives for a boat that sunk during the Nazis reign and wiped out all the paranormals around it.
Hudson wants to find the boat to clear the name of his pack who paranormals are blaming for the wipe out.
Yazmin wants to find it to prove her thesis.
But they aren’t the only ones looking.
Entertaining read, part romance and part adventure.

Review: I never imagined that I would like a fantasy novel with romance. Hunky wolf men with hot love interests that are spicey, assertive (bossy), opinionated, rash (emotional), antagonistic and sexually feral round out the first few chapters. I mean this novel gets to the point rather quickly with graphic scenes.
I almost ditched this but it was written in a light hearted and funny way that pulls you into the story. Artfully done. Yeah, the romance sux, but is it romance if the main characters have sex within hours of meeting each other?
There was no thought given to modesty, hence, the characters were fairly one-dimensional. I must have missed the point of the story line, as the ending is non-sensical. Perhaps in subsequent novels the resolve will clear the confusion.
I liked this writers style and ability. The sexual content, not so much.
The start of a new series from Bethany Maines and Hudson, set in the same world as her 3 Colors trilogy, is a rollicking romp reminiscent of Tomb Raider crossed with The Mummy as shifter Hudson teams up with Egyptology student Yazmin to find the tomb of the first warlock Sir Barnabas, and hopefully unlock the mystery of warlock magic in an attempt to help solve the decades long mystery of what really happened when the supernatural population of Greece was wiped out during the Second World War and clear the name of his pack leader’s brother who was blamed for the catastrophe.
I adored Yazmin. She’s an English lady to her fingertips and stole the show in this book with some of her one liners such as “warlocks are the pillocks in the knock off Harry Potter robes?” And “there were twats shooting magic at me!”Some of the best lines of dialogue I’ve read recently and despite being thrown in at the deep end with her introduction to the existence of magic in the world including its mystical beings, was surprisingly accepting. Hudson, well he’s still a bit of a mystery. He’s a member of the Rejects pack, a gang of misfits and cast outs from other packs for various reasons but I’m still a bit unsure why he’d been kicked out of his old pack other than he was a bit of an amateur scholar. In a fantastic tale involving secret codes, hidden tombs and booby traps with neo-nazi warlocks hot on their heels, Yazmin and Hudson this series is off to an amazing start and I can’t wait for the next book.
This is the first book by Bethany Maines that I have had the privileged to read. Maines has an interesting story arc meshing Arthurian legend, fantasy, the paranormal, history and magic.
Hudson, an American werewolf shifter, is a self-made man in many ways. Rejected from his birth pack, he is adopted by another. Aleklios, his adopted father, instills a dream of redemption to his pack. Hudson, as a young shifter, is only too happy to oblige. Finally, someone who understands his love of history!
Yasmin is an actual Lady. That is with a capital L, by the way. Both of her parents are famous in the archeological field. All she wants is to make a name for herself. With her discertation due, she finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime. Of course, it is all for research. (wink, wink)
The entire book reminded me of the love story in The Mummy. I loved the movie and this story as well. Hot sex, danger and a coming to terms with the truth about yourself and your feelings. I cannot wait until the next Rejects Pack is released.
This book grabbed my attention from the start and kept it. I snorted coffee with the "sweaty ball stank" comment. Just one of many from Yazmin. Being a snotty aristocrat on the occasions that are out of her comfort zone. Hudson is just as intelligent and that's saying something. Magic and mayhem ensues throughout.
