Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me a digital ARC of this family drama by Clare Boyd. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4 stars!
Amy and her teenage daughter, Tess, move into Summerfield House with Amy's boyfriend, William, and his teenage son, Hal. They all couldn't be happier until Amy starts hearing stories about the house and rumors about her husband from a neighbor, Olivia. Amy goes snooping in the house and discovers photos of a baby and a girl names Sophie, that she believes William may be involved with. Then Tess and Hal get caught up in a scandal with another teen, Rory.
This is kind of a slow-burn novel but it definitely ramps to the climax on Amy and William's wedding date. I liked the two different storylines of the parents and the teenagers. Plus, it's told from different POV, including an unknown voice. Everyone is keeping secrets, trying to fit in, and yet protect each other. Another intriguing mystery from Clare Boyd!
I wouldn't class this as a thriller but it's a fantastic read. Lots of secrets and lies bubbling under the surface and extremely gripping. It's a page turner for sure!
Amy, the bride, believes she’s hit the jackpot when she gets a second chance at love with her fiancé. However, doubts start to creep in along the way. Is everything too good to be true? As Amy grapples with secrets and lies, mystery and suspense unfold.
This is less of a thriller (which the cover and blurb make it seem like), and more of a family drama that delves into the secrets lurking beneath the glossy surface of a seemingly perfect new life.
Wow............ this is an edge of your seat fast passed thriller that will keep you up all night you will not be able too put it down

Amy has a second chance at happiness as she prepares to marry William. Amy and her daughter Tess have moved into William’s home with his son Hal. Amy loves William and although she is excited about their future together, doubts begin to settle in and she starts to wonder if William is keeping secrets from her. Meanwhile, Hal and Tess are struggling to settle into a sibling relationship. Amy’s doubts begin as her life begins to undergo changes. While these changes start off for the better, her doubts begin to grow. While this story is told mostly from Amy and Hal’s points of view, there is a third perspective, and this is where the mystery of William’s secrets begins to unfold. How intriguing! Shockingly, Tess soon goes missing and of course Amy is desperate to find her. Where is Tess and how does her disappearance if at all tie into William’s secret past? Read it today.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
This book had me hooked from the beginning when Amy flees from the church as she is about to get married as her daughter Tess has disappeared. We then learn the story of Amy and William. How they met and fell in love even though they are from very different backgrounds. Amy and Tess are moving in with William and his teenage son Hal in their magnificent Summerfield House. As Amy makes friends with some of the local women she realises that that there is a lot of William’s past that he has not revealed. Tess has settled into her new school and gets on well with Hal and his best friend Rory. Things become nasty when Rory gets involved in drugs and puts Tess and Hal in danger. This book is a tense family drama with plenty of twists and turns but I felt the end was rather rushed, but still an enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Told by multiple POV's there is alot going on in this book. It was full of suspense , especially romantic suspense on my favourite tropes.
At first, it appears as if The Wedding Night is going to be a straightforward psych thriller. But Clare Boyd has much more in store for the reader.
We know from the prologue that there is a wedding gone awry and that someone has disappeared. Are the two linked? How? And whose wedding is it?
The story is told from multiple points of view. We have Amy and William, Amy’s daughter (Tess) and William’s son (Hal). A mysterious “Me” also has a few chapters here and there. That’s a lot of characters.
And there is a LOT going on between them.
Amy and Tess are moving in with William and Hal. It soon becomes clear whose wedding night is going to be a wreck. But we don’t get to that until much later in the plot. In fact, a lot of the book feels like there are several separate plot lines that have nothing to do with each other…until they do.
Eventually they all come to a head at roughly the same time. They are not interwoven as much as separate roads that converge on the same intersection. It is a different approach from several other psych thrillers.
In fact, it often feels like there is almost too much going on. I got invested in each of the individual timelines so much that by the time the climax (the wedding night) occurs, it felt almost…meh. Not that it wasn’t a good meeting of the plot threads. But the build up was more interesting to me.
The resolutions after the climax also seemed to go very quickly – almost as if the author was just trying to wrap it up.
There is also an underlying current of William and Hal and their alleged wealth being an issue for Amy and Tess. How Tess changes when she meets new friends in the new posh school, and things like that. But it never feels completely developed – the reader is told it is an issue more than actually seeing a lot of it.
That’s not entirely accurate, but I’m not sure how else to describe it.
That being said, The Wedding Night still had me turning pages late into the night to see what would happen next. Clare Boyd does write a complex psych thriller, and I look forward to the next one.
I give The Wedding Night a solid three stars. It was an okay read, but not quite as mysterious or thrilling as I had hoped. I will try another book by Clara Boyd at some point.
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The plot is one that is engaging with twists and turns and fast paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
A really good book
Will keep you on the edge of your seat
A great thriller
I would definitely recommend this
Thanks NetGalley
A very good read about a family drama where Amy and William start a new life together along with their teenage children ,Tessa and Hal. There are lots of secrets ,lies and mystery. The story is told fro lots of points of views which did confuse me a little. I did enjoy this book but it didn’t hold my attention as much as I had anticipated . Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to read this book.
Amy has fallen in love with William. They are from two different worlds and yet they are hooked. Both have their own children and being a parent often means sacrifice. As amy and tess move on with william and hal long buired secrets are dxposed and the two world collide.
This is a length but entertaining book. I thought it was about the adults but ots more about tess and hals worlds co.kng together and the dark reality of county line drug. Sadly although this is a novel the drug element us very true. I enjoy the relationships between the teenagers. The violence seemed tone down in place and extraordinary in other. The sub plot of williams and sophies past did make it entertaining reading but got confusing in places as it was too interwoven with other plots. It did help williams character arc . Thrre was not enough about amys history gor me i saw her for tge most part mother. The way the interwctions caused the subplots was enjoyable.
A good solid 4 stars dont let the length put you off
A lot of family drama and some suspense thrown in. This story was great from start to finish. With really strong characters and plot this book is a keeper.
