A love letter from grandparents to their granddaughter, who they promise is perfect, has the world at her feet and will be supported by them until she is 24. Nice verses – four lines, where the final one only seldom engages with the rhyming scheme – make up the text pages, and each second page is a wonderful image of slightly OTT animals, giving perhaps too much of the human expression of parent-daughter love than they might in nature. Anything is game to look cute here, apparently, from bears and insects to puffer fish. It does all look fine, of course. Now I never really see this kind of book as something I'd buy, appreciate or stock, but somehow they keep cropping up, and enough people must find their universal message a welcome one, or they'd just die off. This one, while clearly discriminatory against anyone without a granddaughter, is fine for those buyers who cannot quite say a similar sentiment themselves. And it won't really be that unwelcome a gift, unless you dislike the idea of a whole two decades more of your grand-folks...

Love, love, love this. As the grandmother of a granddaughter this totally resonated with me. I loved the text in verse as well as the illustrations. This will be a great gift for new grandparents as well as current grandparents of granddaughters. It will be something that can be read again and again. I think young child will love the colorful pictures as well as the sentiment. I highly recommend it. I thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to read this ARC.

As someone who has a very close relationship with my grandmother, I thought this book was just darling. I would've loved to read this book with my grandma as a little girl. The illustrations were super cute. I can see this book being a hit with children and grandma's alike.

Why We Need Granddaughters by Gregory E. Lang is a lovely story to read to your granddaughter. A very touching story for grandmothers.

I was extremely close with my grandmother, and some of my best memories are adventures with my grandmother. We found fun without leaving the house! I was so happy to read this special book. My grandma passed away in 2021, and reading this book brought tears to my eyes. It brought back so many memories that I had forgotten. This would be a perfect gift from a grandmother to her granddaughter. Even for adults like me, it would be amazing. The illustrations and animal artwork are gorgeous! I loved this book so much.

I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet picture book using animals showing the importance of granddaughters in someone's life. Great addition to one's library.

This is a book on the thoughts of grandparents towards their granddaughters. Every person once becoming grandparent wanted to live their childhood yet again through them. This book captured that thought throughout via poetry and simple sense of rhyming. Through illustrations artist tried to show evolution of new generation under the guidance of 2 generations up them.
Daughters always tend to understand the feelings well and when they are granddaughters they always remain so close the heart of their grandparents. This bond of love, care and respect depicted nicely in this picture book.
Illustrations were so good and soothing to the eyes. So much clear images and empathatic considering the words written to explain the thought.

The illustrations are beautiful and so realistic. The story would be a special gift from grandparents to granddaughters to encourage them that there is nothing they can't do.

While depicting a variety of fauna to illustrate the theme of love and joy in granddaughters and what they share with us, there is no artificial limitation placed on either side. The entire book is a love letter full of encouragement with rhymes! Excellent!
The illustrations by Lisa Alderson are delightful, imaginative, detailed, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Wonderland via NetGalley. Thank you!

This was a really sweet book. I actually read it with my four year old son and he enjoyed it even if he’s not a granddaughter. I could definitely see my mom reading this with my nieces. It would make for a very special moment. The illustrations are adorable and the text engaging.

Simply a beautiful book. As my girls grow and my parents age, I can picture them saying these words to them. It is a simple but beautiful book with amazing illustrations. So many people forget the love between grandparents and grandchildren and this book captures it completely. I want to get this for my parents! Soak it in. Every last word. It's worth it!

Adorably illustrated with beautifully thoughtful sentiments. The message is precious! My only issue is that this book is told from a plural standpoint. Continually saying things like we and us. What about a grandparent who is not part of a plural? Grandparent's unit? This book is geared towards younger children so using the plural terms (us, we, vs I ) could be confusing for them. Otherwise, this is a wonderful book!

Such a wonderful little book! I have a four-year-old granddaughter who is the light of my life, and every description about granddaughters in this story is so true. I will definitely be adding this book to my gift list for her next birthday. The illustrations are vibrant and beautiful, and I can see it being a keepsake for many years to come. I would highly recommend it to everyone.
