How to Grill Our Love, Vol. 1 by Shiori Hanatsuka was a sweet foodie, romance, slice-of-life manga where these two adults meet on a blind date and discover they both love barbeque food. Eventually, they like each other so much they decide to get married, but have to live apart for a while until the wife can go freelance for work. Inside is many tasty-sounding recipes throughout the story, and the couple meets up on weekends for barbeques. Definitely recommend for manga lovers of romance and foodie-type stories.
An adorable iyashikei manga following a newlywed couple as they grow closer through their shared meals.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this manga. I thought this manga was an adorable marriage of convenience story but with grilling tips. Definitely if you are a grilling connoisseur, it will be a lot of fun to read more tips. I also like that the characters are very sweet to each other (like Sweat and Soap). Because of these points, I have to give this a 5 out of 5 stars

This is a cute and likable slice of life manga that has me looking forward to volume 2.
I don't know what it is with me and cooking manga, but I really love it! This adorable young marriage relationship is brought together by authenticity and bbq grilling. I'm really loving the direction of it, and the development pace of the relationship. I adore stories like this, and am very excited for the next volume!
This was such a fun concept! There’s a lot of manga that focus on finding love and slice of life, but this one is so unique for being about grilling! I really enjoyed vol 1 of this manga and would be interested in reading the next volumes. The only part that was strange to me was the characters getting married right away, and I’m not sure if this is a cultural thing. I enjoyed the art style and the concept a lot. This was fun!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own!
I have such a soft spot for food manga and this one hit that spot perfectly. This was so cute! I loved their romance it was so cute and sweet. The food art also got me so hungry.
Really excited to keep going with the digital.
Summary:
Dating can be tough – especially when you're not great at meeting new people. Kenta finally met a girl he liked. It was perfect. She's kind and cute and even likes trying the food he loves so much. So what's the problem?
Mostly, he's about to get transferred. Can a long-distance relationship work? Even when it is so new and sweet? Meanwhile, Chihiro seems to know a good thing when she sees it because she has an idea of how to handle this news.
Review:
How to Grill Our Love Vol. 1 is probably one of the calmest and sweetest series I've checked out, at least in recent times. It's the perfect slow-burn romance for readers who love a lot of food talk.
Yeah, I should probably mention that bit! Kenta and Chihiro really bond over food – grilling food, specifically. I think it's super cute that this series emphasizes the need to find something to share with your loved ones.
That said, if grilling isn't your cup of tea, you might find the details to be a bit on the drier side. Having never really experienced this myself, I found a lot of the flavor profile talk going over my head. Still, I'm happy that I gave it a try!

This is a sweet take on a new relationship. They both make choices to strengthen their relationship and feature a fun shared live of grilling. The illustrations are really great and strengthen the story and the enjoyment to the reader. Thank you for the opportunity to review this lovely graphic novel
Cute manga about foodies falling in love and being awkward. My kind of love story and the art is fantastic.
This was so cute!!! I love how the main characters bond over food! It's a type of manga I haven't read a lot with a large focus on the actual food! Really liked it, will definitely read more!
Thanks Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC!!!
I enjoyed this manga story with all the characters within. The main characters were Kenta and Chihiro.
Kenta wants a girlfriend that can be himself to. He like to barbecue on the grill. He has been looking for a while and can't find a girl that is right. So when the girl that he was going to see doesn't show up. He decides to leave on the way out she show up. And he take her to his favorite restaurant to eat.
Chihiro is late for her date with a online dating guy. She is running late and hope he still there. But she meets him on the way out of the restaurant. So he decides to take her to some places else.
This was a fun manga to read. It had action, adventure and drama throughout. It had a few giggles within. The illustrations was along with the story well. This is the first volume.

How to Grill Our Love follows Fukuyama and Yamaguchi and their blooming relationship.
I recommend this book for readers who enjoy slice of life, food/cooking, and a little bit of romance. This manga reminds me of WOTAKOI and how relationships grow and take on a different path for different people.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for giving me the opportunity to read this manga in exchange of an honest review.
How to Grill Our Love starts with a blind date between Fukuyama and Yamaguchi. Both individuals struggle to find themselves in a relationship until they met one another. Fukuyama is a shy person and often times, finds himself "stood up" by his prospective dates. Yamaguchi informed Fukuyama that she was running late, however, due to previous experiences, Fukuyama decided to leave their meeting place, thinking that he got stood up again. On his way out, he meets Yamaguchi and he embarrassingly takes her to a yakuniku (a Japanese BBQ) spot that he goes with his friends to continue their date. The comfortable and casual location allowed Yamaguchi to loosen up and open up... and so begins their relationship with each other and with food.
I found this book super cute and very wholesome. The characters were relatable, both of them being socially awkward and found comaraderie with each other's awkwardness. A part of the story may seem very unrealistic to American culture but seems to be part of Japanese culture. With that in mind, it can put their relationship in a very questionable opinion to some people. However, I really am looking forward to reading more of their story and how they each grow as a couple and as individuals.

I thought this was an okay manga. It kind of rushed into the story without any build up. It starts out with a blind date and the guy, Kenta likes to grill and it seem things were going well between the two characters. Then when the Kenta is being transferred Chihiro suggests that after one date they get married and have a long distance marriage. Which to me sounds a bit rushed. Then this manga is also more about the food being made then the actual relationship itself. Will I continue with the series I don't know.
I am not big fan of manga and thisone did not grab my attention. The story was ok but I lost intrest and did not finish it
Very innocent (at least for this volume) slice of life manga about two people who get married before they really know each other. They bond over Kenta’s love for grilling and the food looks delicious! It’s just a cute manga about grilling food and early dating. There’s really no dire plot twists or complications and is an easy and quick read. If you like a fluffy no (major) conflict and easy-going slice-of-life manga, these two are pretty cute.
A very cute slice of life for the foodie in all of us. Two good main leads but the pacing could be slow at the times but for this type of story it works. Great build up and some really fun moments.
Thanks NetGalley and Kodansha for this delightful arc!
5/5 stars!
Ok, I requested this bc the cover was cute and all the food puns on the back made me laugh a lot. But the story! Was! SO! CUTE!!! I had no idea I'd be reading about these two shy people falling in love so sweetly over food - after already getting married! 🤣 (yes I read the back ages ago and forgot the actual plot when I started reading it, so it was a cute silly surprise lol) The guy you're dating is taking a job a few hours away, so your first thought is to get married bc you want to keep getting to know him better?! Ok Chihiro, ok! Well, it works out bc they really like each other and just have the sweetest times. This was so cute.
Kenta Fukuyama is used to being stood up on dates, so like any other time he assumed that Chihiro Yamaguchi was a no show. However, she was just running late and they ran into each other as Kenta was leaving. They end up going to a yakiniku place for their date, where we get our first glimpse at Kenta's excitement talking about grilling/food. They continue to meet up, but Kenta discovers he has to move due to work. Once he talks to her, she surprises him suggesting that they get married.
3.75/4 stars
It is a cute slice of life that currently focuses a lot on Kenta's passion of grilling. I enjoy that Chihiro shows interest in Kenta's passion and listens to him talk about it. I am not 100% sure how I feel about how fast their relationship progressed, mainly because it felt like they just started dating then it was a quick jump to marriage, They are in a long distance relationship in this volume, which as you can imagine results in some sort of miscommunication. However, it gets resolved and they make a promise to be more open with each other, I would like to see more development for the characters in upcoming volumes; they are both adorable together, so would like to see more progress and Chihiro maybe opening up more around Kenta.
