Cover Story: This Night Is Sparkling

I feel like a quirky small town fall vibe, like seeing the front windows of Jessica’s shop all decorated as the cover, would’ve been adorable. The purple and clouds feel like a specific nod to the Taylor Swift song the title makes me sing every time I think about the book, and it’s a bit more general “this is a romance!” than I’d want, but at least the motorcycle ride does make an appearance in the story.

The Deal:

An off-hand remark from Jessica Gold’s dad when she was a child mistakenly led her to believe her mother was a witch, and from there little Jessica became obsessed. As she grew, she learned anyone can be a witch if they practiced hard enough, but a thoughtless love spell in high school ruined her chances of ever being taken “seriously” by the World Council of Witches.

Now Jessica is grown, running her own clothing store where she judiciously applies her magic to help her customers find their perfect fits. She’s not ready for Derrick Winters, a witch affiliated with the WCW, to wander in one day and tell her she’s The Chosen One; the only person who can help the Bringer of Light save the town from certain evil.

Jessica’s arch-nemesis from high-school is still lurking around, Derrick is an eye-candy hunk of distraction, and her business is drowning in orders for the West Harbor Tricentennial Ball (coincidentally also the night shit is supposed to go down). What’s a witch to do?

BFF Charm: Best Witches

I am under the impression that all of Meg Cabot’s protagonists contain a little bit of her personality, and that’s probably why I love them. They’re all a bit snarky, nerdy (they love random facts), usually with little chill, but they’re always kind and upbeat. Jessica loves her work because she likes making people feel good, and she doesn’t hesitate when she finds out who she has to help in order to save her town.

Swoonworthy Scale: 5

Derrick starts off tall, Viking, and taciturn, but his hulking figure hides a heart of gold, and he immediately appreciates Jessica for who she is—sa-woon. Cabot’s romances never quite make things sizzle for me, but they generally portray romantic relationships in a healthy, fun way that makes me want to root for the couple.

Talky Talk: Meg Cabot School Of Positivity

Witches, small towns, and Meg Cabot? I couldn’t request this book fast enough. There’s something so comforting and wonderful about her writing, and I don’t mean to say that in a “she’s predictable and boring” kind of way, but…you do know what you’re getting when you pick up one of her books, and I totally love and appreciate that. Everything moves at a snappy pace; there’s usually a good lesson about being true to yourself or sticking up for what’s right; and, there’s emphasis on life-long friendships and adorkable love interests. Enchanted to Meet You had all of that with a side of witchy supernatural-ness. I loved spending time with Jessica and her trivia group, and the Light Bringer was bad-ass. I always feel good after reading a Meg Cabot novel, and this was no exception!

Bonus Factor: Small Towns

For a minute it was like going back to some place like Stars Hollow or Mystic Falls with West Harbor’s Tricentennial Ball coming up and the whole town in a tizzy about it. Sure, in a small town you may have to constantly deal with annoying people, like your love-sick ex and the popular girl from high school he ended up marrying who will just not leave you alone, but there’s also that time you dressed the mayor and random Thursdays wine nights on your porch with your besties you’ve known for decades.

Bonus Factor: Witches

Cabot’s version of witchy magic leans into herbs and potions and things like eating porridge out of a wooden bowl while staring at your intended to make them fall madly in love with you, but also comes from a well-spring inside of you that anyone can tap if they’re in-tune enough with the world and themselves. I dig it.

Bonus Factor: Magical Clothes

How I wish Jessica’s store existed in real life, where you could go and with a few magical tweaks you could find the best clothes to fit your personality and body shape. The real world is so boring.

Relationship Status: LYLAS

Book, you’re my sister from another mister. I love how we can gossip like no time has gone by, and you always hype me up when I’m feeling down. Trivia next week?

Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC.

As a teen, I was a big Meg Cabot fan, so I was very interested in trying her new adult story. With its witchy story, this book gave me fall rom-com vibes. While reading it though, I felt that it read more like YA to me instead of adult. I did not find myself interested in picking up the book frequently to see how the story finished. I felt the story was pretty slow compared to what I typically read. I felt like I kept waiting for something big to happen and the climax was anti-climatic to me. I liked Jessica and Derrick and I enjoyed the mystery. Overall it was 3/5 stars for me. I liked it but I didn't love it.

This book really had potential, but in my opinion, it didn't live up to the kind of book that it could be. It wasn't romantic enough to be a romance. To me, the main characters didn't have enough spark. The magic part was cute and definitely got me in the mood for Halloween, but I found that the middle of the book dragged on. I've read quite a few Meg Cabot books, but sadly this wasn't my favorite.

Meg Cabot has been one of my favorite authors since reading The Princess Diaries as a teen I recently fell in love with her books again last year after finding The Little Bridge Island series. When I found out that she had a new series in the works, I was ecstatic to see that I had been accepted on NetGalley to review an advanced copy of Enchanted to Meet You.

Jess lives in the small quaint village of West Harbor and runs the chicest boutique in town. She is also a cottage witch. When a new stranger, Derrick comes into town telling Jess that she is the chosen and along with the bringer of light, must save West Harbor from absolute destruction. Now she must trust Derrick in helping save her town while protecting her heart. Can she save her town in time?

This book is the perfect fall read and I loved the Halloween ambiance. I also feel in love with Jess as a character. She is upbeat and uses her magic in a positive way by making her customers feel like the best versions of themselves. Her chemistry with Derrick was immediate but could tell that Jess was still protecting her heart from repeating past mistakes. I enjoyed the story overall and ended up finishing this book in two days. I couldn’t put it down!

This book looks like it will be part of a series and I am excited to see what happens next for the town of West Harbor. My hope is that the next book will focus of Jess’s brother.Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the opportunity to review Enchanted to Meet you. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved the overall premise of the book combined with Jessica’s larger than life personality and the positive way she uses her magic to make women feel beautiful 💖

That being said, the big thing that stopped me from giving this 4 stars is the ending. There was so much build up only for the ending to be very anti-climatic in my opinion. Would I still recommend? Yes absolutely! This is a perfect lighthearted witchy read to soft launch into spooky season ✨

Another witchy, paranormal book from Meg Cabot. This one is likely for fans of Erin Sterling's The Ex Hex or Sungu Mandanna's The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.

While I am a huge fan of Meg Cabot's YA paranormal books, like the Mediator series, 1-800-Where-R-You books, and Jinx, this new adult book, Enchanted to Meet You, didn't quite hit the same for multiple reasons, though I think some people will still enjoy the story. I simply had some issues with it.

One of the smaller nitpicks I had is the main character's name. Why did Meg give Jessica the same name as Jessica from the 1-800 series? I find that a little odd. But that isn't really a big deal. The biggest and most obvious problem is one that I feel like many people will have an issue with: the love spell.

So the main character, Jessica, is a witch, and she uses a love spell on a boy in high school. This is shown through flashback chapters. The relationship between the boy and Jessica does get physical at some points; therefore, a big ick factor comes to play. I'm surprised Meg would write a main character who would do something like that. Suze and the other Jess would never! I had to knock two stars off for that early on, and I almost DNF-ed the entire book, but I thought I'd continue it because it's a quick read and I'm doing it for review purposes. Now, about 33% through the story, it's shown that Jessica wasn't as awful as previously thought. BUT, she still did the love spell with the intention to make a guy love her AND thought it had worked. So, still icky. Meg really should've made the full situation clearer up front. Yes, doing so would take away from a small bit of tension, but I think she's possibly going to lose some readers because of that plotline and the way it's laid out in the beginning.

Once that major revelation came to light, I actually enjoyed the book more. It started being a fun, paranormal rom-com instead of a lighter episode of Law & Order: SVU. Though Jessica isn't the most unique character, she's still charming and witty. And Derrick is the mysterious male lead with pretty crazy secrets. I honestly wasn't a fan of his big secret, however. It threw off the whole cozy, small-town vibe of the story and made it into something way bigger in scale. That was a bummer, in my opinion .

Overall, this story was kind of a mess. It was quick and easy to read once I got into it, but the main red flag of the book took a lot of enjoyment out of it and made it a chore to get through when I first started reading. The middle was a good time, but things just kind of fell off towards the very end. It was very anticlimactic. I guess I'm disappointed in this one.

I wanted to like this book so much. First, thank you to NetGalley for this arc! Jessica was such a fun character, Meg Cabot does a great job of getting you in Jess's head and the town but nothing really happens in this book. It's not a low stakes cozy fantasy if there's no real plot line other than a vague bad thing happening to the town and even at the end of the book I was more confused than satisfied.

This is a nice witchy read o get you in the mood for Halloween. I really liked Jess and her friends Dina and Mark. The small town dynamic was a lot of fun. And Derrick was a perfect foil to Jess. The end wasn’t quite what I expected, but that’s not a bad thing.

Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I recieved a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a cozy, paranormal romance that is a perfect read for the fall season! Enchanted to Meet You follows Jessica Gold as she meets Derrick Winters amd learns that her town is in danger and that she is the Chosen One. The characters and all of their relationships and dynamics are so fun to follow and truly make the book. I love the strong friendships Meg Cabot displays. The plot kicks off immediately, but fell a little flat for me at the end. It felt like there's was so much buildup, and then it was over. However, I hope to see more of these characters and West Harbor.

3.5 stars. I flew through this book. I enjoyed it, but I kept thinking, “Something has to happen soon, right?” And it really never did. Even the climax to me didn’t do enough. I loved all the characters though. I was very invested in the relationships of all kinds (platonic & romantic). I loved the mystery of it all and the twists, but again the climax was a let down and not enough happened. It was just a lot of build up. But I gave it 3.5 stars because I really loved the writing and the characters. Like I said, I was very invested, but I just wanted more.

Meg Cabot never fails to disappoint and Enchanted to meet you was no exception. It is a delightful rom-com set in a sleepy New England town that isn’t quite so sleepy at the moment. West Harbor experiences a catastrophic event every 90 years or so and the next one is overdue. Luckily, there is a prophecy about the Chosen One and the Bringer of Light who can avert the coming tragedy.

Derrick has done the research and detained that Jess is the Chosen One. Now he just has to get her on board with training the Bringer of Light so they can be ready. But what if the magic Jess feels when Derrick is around isn’t magic but something even more powerful?

I loved the ride or die friendship between Jess and Dina. It was so much fun to get glimpses of them in the flashbacks and to see that though they had grown up, somethings never really change.

I’m not always a fan of insta-love, but it was done well here. And with a twist that I don’t want to spoil!

I also enjoyed flashbacks but was disappointed when they stopped. Their disappearance was what kept me from giving this 5 stars. One or two more would have really tied everything together.

Overall, this is the perfect fall read. I highly recommend.

I knew I wanted to read this the second I heard about it because Meg Cabot created the Princess Diaries and those movies are the most important thing to me! And I love a good witchy book!

This book was super sweet! I think it’ll be the perfect edition to all the spooky season reads lists! It has a little bit of everything - witches doing low key magic, mean girls from high school still harboring resentment, a little fake dating that turns serious so fast!

I loved Derek and Jessica so much. Their romance was SO GOOD. Derek was in town to help save the town and protect Jessica. But he fell SO HARD for her. And even though he knew he had a job to do, and he should be doing literally anything other than falling in love with her, he couldn’t help it!

There was kind of a lot going on? the whole story took place over a week, and it was sometimes hard to tell the actual timeline because there was so much going on. Which does make sense for the story, they were trying to save the whole town in a week. But it felt chaotic at times. I wish somethings got a little less time…so other things could shine. I would have loved more time with Esther! Her moments were so good, especially the ending. Maybe she’ll get her own book??

But I did really like the universe that was set up! It was complicated but in a way that makes sense. Derek and Jessica are going to keep saving the world and I hope we can see more of them someday!

Thank you to Netgalley and Avon & Harper Voyager for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This book is a fun, witchy rom-com! Definitely gives you all the fall vibes, it made me wish I was in a New England town in the fall! The main characters, Jess and Derrick, have a sweet story. Derrick has a lot of protective MMC vibes. Jess is the kind of sweetheart we’d all like to be friends with, and the cast of characters she keeps around her are funny and show up for her. Esther is basically who I wish I’d been in high school, her character really pulled the whole story together. I’m so hopeful this will be a series!

This didn’t seem to have much of a plot line, other than “save the town.” We don’t even know who or what they’ll be fighting against until the last few pages, and even then everything just kind of fizzled out. But, if you’re just looking for a light Fall read, this could do the trick.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Rating: 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Jessica Gold, your average cottage witch, lives in West Harbor and owns a small clothing store called ‘Enchanted’ at which she uses her powers to make women feel more confident. Derrick Winters (stereotypical bad boy and also a witch) shows up at Jess’ store in all of his hotness complete with leather jacket and motorcycle boots to inform her that she is the ‘Chosen One’. Jess is meant to save the town from a rift that will otherwise wipe out West Harbor’s existence. Jess and Derrick team up to find the ‘Bringer of Light’ in hopes that the duo will be able to save the town from evil forces.

Overall, this is a cute, cozy read for fall or Halloween. The characters are funny and the premise is intriguing. You really feel like you are hanging out with friends in a small town during the fall.

Unfortunately this book was a little lackluster for me. I found the event at which the ‘Chosen One’ and ‘Bringer of Light’ are supposed to save the town to be very anticlimatic. I am also not a huge fan of the insta-love trope. I wish the storyline would have had a bit more development and hadn’t ended with such an easy resolution. That being said, I would probably pick up the next book in the series just to see what happens.

Thank you to Netgalley, Avon, and Harper Voyager for a free digital copy of this book. This is my honest review. Publication date: September 5, 2023.

This review will be shared on Instagram @bookmarkedbykelsey closer to publication.

Enchanted to Meet You was a fun, low-angst read that reminded me of Buffy but with a with protagonist.

Jessica Gold loves her town of West Harbor, being a witch, and her clothing store Enchantments. She's still dealing with the mean girl from high school and avoiding her ex-boyfriend, but overall life is good. Then Derrick arrives and throws her for a loop by saying she's the Chosen One who needs to help save the town.

The story and Jessica and Derrick's relationship move at a quick pace, and at times I do wish things were fleshed out more. Still this is an enjoyable, fun, and easy read. I hope there is more to come in this world!

Enchanted to Meet You is an adorable, witchy romantic comedy, full of cozy small-town vibes.

Told in dual timelines, the story follows Jessica Gold in her teenage years, when she casts a love spell gone wrong, and adult years as she meets a handsome witch named Derrick. Derrick tells Jessica that she is the Chosen One, and the only one who can save her small town of West Harbor. Jessica starts to realize she and Derrick may have a special magic of their own, but as tensions in the town rise, she starts to question if he can be trusted.

This book is lighthearted and intriguing, the romance is swoon-worthy, and it’s a perfect magical read for spooky season.

I’m always enchanted to read a new Meg Cabot - having been a fan for 20+ years!

This charming story is part romance, part mystery, and all witchy goodness! It is fast paced, fun, witty, all hallmarks of a Meg Cabot book! We also get fantastic plus size representation from our FMC!

The layers of story telling were really well done - I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a cozy paranormal romance - especially for their fall TBR!

This was such a magical and sweet romcom! Meg Cabot’s writing pulled me right into this story. We meet Jessica Gold, a witch and entrepreneur, who uses her magic to help people feel good about themselves. Her inner dialogue and snark were so refreshing I hope we see more of her in the rest of the series. Derrick, also a witch, shows up telling her that her small town is in danger of being wiped off the map if she doesn’t help save it.
With a cast of lovable characters, a small town with Halloween vibes and a fun plot, this book was an easy hit for me. If you enjoy fake dating, small town autumn vibes, strong and sassy FMC and magic this book is for you! Easily 5 stars! Thank you NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the eARC opportunity!
