This was a sweet, quick witchy read.
I enjoyed getting to know Jessica and Derrick. Though I had trouble understanding the speed in which they fell into a relationship.
I was hoping for a more interesting resolution for all the drama. It felt like things were being set up for more of an event.
Overall enjoyable and would be a nice easy Halloween read. (3.5)
I'm basically in fall mode and I was really looking forward to reading this book!
What I liked about the book:
- It was really easy to read! I found myself breezing through the chapters.
- I like magic and witches, so the characters were really intriguing!
- fall vibes
What I didn't like:
- It had magic, but the magic wasn't really explained to the level I wanted it. I don't know if it's because I'm used to fantasy books and magic systems, but it felt very surface level.
- This has the chosen one trope, but it's kind of odd? I didn't really get why she had to be the chosen one and work with some teenager.
- It just kind of...ends? I felt like it was building up to some big event and I still don't understand what happened in the end. It's like they did some magic and they were magically saved?
I feel like I could keep going on about what I didn't like. I would still pick up the next book in the series because it's intriguing enough and I'd be curious to see what the plot is like. I'd be much more likely to DNF it if it ends up being similar in style.
3.5 stars overall. If you're looking for something witchy for the fall and quick to read, you should try this book!
Thanks Avon and Harper Voyager and Netgalley for the ARC! All opinions are my own.
First and foremost thank you NetGalley and Meg Cabot for letting me read the arc for this piece.
I went into this completely blind because it was my first piece by Meg Cabot and `it won't be my last. The funny story is that I saw Meg's tiktok about this book and I told myself I needed to get this book and read it. Little did I know I already had in my kindler tbr. When I saw that I already had it on my Kindle I knew it was going to be my next `read.
I have to say this isn't the typical piece I normally read but I'm really glad I gave this a chance. Not only was it my first Meg Cabot book but it was also my first whichy book. Gave me "Fall Vibes". Jessica and Derrick had an interesting relationship. Their relationship had to do with magic, lies, being the chosen one, and in the end, actually figuring out they were meant for one another.
Normally when I start a book I normally can never put it down but in this case I noticed that it took me a little bit longer to get through it. Although the chapters weren't long, I noticed that the style of writing was different for my liking. The book alone was good. I rate it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I went through the last 13 chapters rather fast because that was when I noticed the flow of the book was good. There was little to no spice in the book which is fine.
Overall, I would recommend this book to read during the fall because the vibes were all there. Small town, high school friendships, entrepreneurs, family feuds, magic, witches, witchcraft, etc.
I absolutely adored the description when I first was sent the book (thank you NetGalley and to the author and publishers!) and could not wait to start reading. Who doesn't love a witchy rom com set in a cozy setting? And just in time for Fall! I'm really hoping a sequel is in the works because I loved the characters, the plot, the world building, just all of it.
A great Autumn read outside or by the fire. Loved the representation portrayed, and it's what every paranormal romance book lover wants! Highly recommend!!
Thanks to NetGalley, Avon, and Harper Voyager for providing me with a digital copy in exchange for my review.
Author Meg Cabot has created a new setting in a charming Connecticut town and includes West Harbor Witches including the heroine, best friend and of course her nemesis.
The book includes romance, drama including an epic event and of course a happy ending
It was a fun read and even though I read it during the summer and I can see it being very popular closer to Halloween and the Fall season.
I recommend this book and look forward to the possibility of a second in the series.
What a sweet, funny, and engaging story - I didn't want to put it down but I didn't want it to end either. I want Jessica to be my friend in real life! I'll spare the synopsis that everyone else puts in and keep it to just my thoughts. A worthwhile read for anyone that likes a good paranormal twist to their stories, I can't wait for the next one!
Thank you, Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Classic, awesome Meg Cabot. She's a treasure and I love everything she writes. This was a super fun read!
3.5 ⭐️ rounded up.
This book is whimsical and quirky. A cozy witchy romance but also so much more. It was chaotic in a way that I loved. It took me a minute to get into it but I ended up really enjoying myself. I loved seeing some of the journal entries of the past woven together with the present story. If you’re looking for deep characters this isn’t the book for you but if you’re looking for a fun and lighthearted witchy story, check it out. I loved the characters and there definitely is some development and depth to their individual stories. Not sure what else to say. It was just a fun read!
A nice, lighthearted rom-com full of witchy vibes. Jessica Gold is just your average cottage witch, running her successful clothing store in her hometown surrounded by great friends. Enter Derrick Winters, a mysterious hottie sent to tell her she is ~the chosen one~ and can only save her charming town with the help of a teenage sidekick, ~the bringer of light~. Of course, chaos ensues.
The setting in West Harbor is amazing! It had me craving a coastal fall like nobodies business. Jessica and Derrick had great chemistry, and we love a silly little teenage sidekick (with a sapphic touch). But there seemed to be a lot of build up for just a little action! This is definitely a lighthearted romance!
For me, Meg Cabot books are always a hug I didn't know I needed. I feel like I've grown up with Meg's books, and Enchanted to Meet You did not disappoint. I'm so glad she does YA and adult genres so that I can enjoy her books on multiple levels and over decades.
Having grown up in Connecticut, the setting of Enchanted to Meet You hit me directly in the heart - shopping at Stew Leonard's (America's largest dairy store!) and hearing anyone else refer to their pasta sauce as gravy were the type of details that are both real to the area, and helped me dive more deeply into the story.
The story itself had excellent pacing, comedic timing, and flow. I didn't always know exactly where the plot was going, I definitely fell for the misdirection here and there, and I was happily surprised by the direction of the ending. The elements of magic/gods/demons/etc. were all easy to understand and seamlessly integrated into the story - similar to her YA 1-800-Where-Are-You or Mediator YA series.
Derrick and Jessica are a very cute pairing, and while there is a bit of insta-love, both of their characters felt fleshed out enough that it didn't feel abrupt or unlikely. Jessica's personality was approachable and fun and it was easy to root for her. I appreciated the flashbacks that did add a sense of drama and mystery to the story - and they also kept me guessing about where the story was going. I don't know that the story itself directly aligned with the book blurb - but that was more than okay with me because it was nice to see a book with a "Chosen One" theme that wasn't a huge, enormous, life changing lift with a Mary Sue main character. Jessica was a capable character by just being herself, which we don't always see in this genre, and which I really appreciated.
I could definitely see this book as the opening in a series that I would have on my must-read list. Thank you so much to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the ARC.
I loved this book! It's the perfect blend of The Ex Hex meets Hocus Pocus 2 meets Stars Hallow.
The writing was perfection. It's by the same author of the Princess Diaries...but with a hint of spice.
The heroine, Jessica, is a witch who is possibly "The Chosen One." Her small Connecticut town is in peril with an impending paranormal disaster. Derrick (MMC love interest) was sent by his boss to help The Chosen One find "The Bringer of Light." The suspected Bringer of Light is a high school girl named Ester. In a matter of days they must train and work together to fight the impending disaster.
DNF pretty quickly. As an avid reader of Princess Diaries/Mediator and pretty much all of Cabot’s stand-alone YA books, I haven’t been able to capture the magic in her more recent work (including the COVID era princess diaries which I basically only gave a high rating to because of the scenes with Mia and Michael). This book just felt juvenile but not in a classic Cabot way. I’ll stick to re-reading old faves.
I was enchanted from the very beginning. The love lost Jessica feels is familiar to almost everyone. The excitement of a new man with new chemistry and new gossip in town is always much more exciting. When Jessica and Derrick join their super natural forces to save the small town of West Harbor you can’t help but fall in love with them both. You’ll love the witchy enemies and roof for the younger generations. Perfect read for spooky season!
I grew up reading Meg Cabot’s books as a preteen and teenager and have always been a big fan. That’s not changing anytime soon after reading this book!
Enchanted to Meet You features Jessica Gold, a small town “cottage witch” who uses her powers to make women feel more confident, and Derrick Winters, a classic bad boy complete with leather jacket, motorcycle boots, and long hair but with the added twist that he is also a witch. Derrick rides into town in his tiny rental car to tell Jessica that she is the “Chosen One” destined to help save her town from a rift that is set to wipe her home off the map.
This book beautifully depicts the way returning home as an adult can feel with high school friendships (and rivalries) still intact. Jess’s current interactions, along with some flashback journal entries to Jess’s time in high school, harken back to Cabot’s expertise in writing high-school friends, enemies, and romance, but age up perfectly into adult relationships between people who knew each other as teens.
Enchanted to Meet You has the same sweetness and unputdownableness of Cabot’s YA books that captured my heart. Her characters are likable, and, as with all great romances, you can’t help but root for them to succeed in all things. This adorable, quirky paranormal romance is sure to delight any fans of the genre as well as those who, like me, are fans of Cabot’s previous novels.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC for my honest review.
After reading this, I'm so excited for the rest of the series! It's been a long time since I've read a Meg Cabot book and this was absolutely perfect. So magical and perfectly cosy for the autumn and I just know so many people are going to fall in love with this book.
I was so into the plus size representation and both Jessica and Derrick were *chefs kiss* sublime.
Meg Cabot has done it again! Enchanted To Meet You is the perfect cozy Halloween read. The chemistry is sizzling, there is loads of action, and just the perfect amount of spookiness. Cabot integrates humor and emotion flawlessly. This has become my newest comfort read!
What a fun, witchy read! This is PERFECT for the beginning of fall, right when you’re looking for a paranormal romance! Jessica was a very relatable witch up against all sorts of stuff. Loved the layer of mystery surrounding Derrick. This will be such a hit in September when it’s released!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC! I gave this book a solid 3.5 stars - it will be the perfect cozy fall read!! I really loved how the romance took a back seat to the paranormal aspects of the story, but it did leave a little to be desired. I also felt that the climax of the book was a bit lacking, but otherwise it was a very cozy and enjoyable read!
Enchanted To Meet You by Meg Cabot is the first book in the new series Witches of West Harbor.
This was a quick, lighthearted read, despite the mentions of demons. The town is in peril, and only the chosen one and the bringer of light can save this sleepy coastal city. We don't get to know what the danger is or how to thwart it. But just know it's there.
Derrick Winters is far more than the sexy man he appears to be. He's come to town to help, not fall for the woman he's there to guide. Jessica Gold has horrible luck with men. From one of her first spells gone wrong, she's decided that love is not in the cards for her. So her instant attraction to the very hot Derrick really throws her, as does the way her body reacts to him. Can they get beyond the secrets to find that they are more than the magic that surrounds them?
Lovelorn Jessica cast a love spell that went disastrously wrong as a teen that brought her the wrong kind of attention and a lifetime ban from the World Council of Witches. Fifteen years later, a wickedly handsome WCW member, Derrick shows up in her village claiming she is the chosen one. Jessica has been chosen to help save her village, West Harbor. Not only is she the chosen one, but she also needs to help the bringer of light hone in her powers as well. As summer is ending and her powers are growing, she starts to think that her and Derrick have magic of their own, until she finds out he may not be who she thought he was. Jess finds herself with an inner battle, she must trust Derrick and work with him to combat the evil force trying to bring down West Harbor.
Enchanted to Meet You is just the book to read to dive into witchy season! A magical romance at its finest. I found myself not wanting to put it down because it was so fun and gave me all the witchy/spooky season vibes. It really gave me Halloweentown feels but an adult version. The story is based around and on Halloween so obviously this is one you need to read as we head into autumn. Enchanted to Meet you is sweet, funny, and had me smiling the entire time I was reading it. I was fortunate enough to receive this as an ARC and one that I would love to have finished. You can find me in the bookstore 9/5/23 to get my hands on a copy!
Thank you NetGalley and Avon for the ARC and the chance to read and review it honestly.
Happy reading!
