Thank you to Meg Cabot, Harper Collins, and Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Enchanted to Meet You! I devoured this book on the beach- it is so full of friends, witchy things, mentorship, fashion, and romance and I loved all of it! I’ve always been a fan of Meg Cabot’s YA work, and now I’m a fan of her adult work as well. Would highly highly recommend this when it comes out on September 5, 2023.
I've been a Meg Cabot fan for decades, and this one was cute but a little wobbly. The politics felt kind of awkwardly inserted and at one point a character literally said "not all men" which was weird. But her books are always pretty fun and this one was, too.
Love Meg Cabot. Love witches. This was always going to go down well with me. A fun, quick read that I really enjoyed. I also liked the brief introduction to Jess' brother, which I think is a set up for the next book!
I requested this book because I've always enjoyed Meg Cabot, especially when she dips into the supernatural. I haven't been a huge fan of her recent Florida based adult romances, so I was happy to see a new adult book along slightly different lines. Enchanted to Meet You follows good witch Jessica Gold, a lifelong follower of light magic and a resident and small business owner in small town Connecticut. In her teens Jessica got into a spot of trouble with a love spell, but ever since she's been trying to use her magic only for good. The action starts when a mysterious (and of course attractive) stranger arrives on her doorstep and tells her that not only is her town about to be hit by a supernatural apocalypse, but that she is the Chosen One who has to help him stop it from happening. Jessica is understandably concerned. What follows is a sweet romance and a low tension apocalypse.
This was a fun and quick read that would be well suited to Fall (and I see that it is set to be published in September). It's cute, light, and I enjoyed the romance more then I have those in Cabot's previous few books. Definitely recommended for those who have enjoyed Meg Cabot in the past, and those who enjoy light romance with a supernatural touch.
I was so excited to receive an arc for this book, as I'm a huge fan of Meg Cabot's books, and this one is no exception; I loved this story and its characters so much. First of all, the FMC, Jess, is a plus-size witch and has a black cat, which is too cute, and the MMC is also a witch, looks like a Viking and the cat is obsessed with him, which is also too cute. This book was funny, had drama and romance, while still focusing on plot and moving the story forward, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The short chapters and dual POVs made it an easy read and the strong female friendships (and characters) and lgbtg rep made it an awesome read. Did I mention there's witches too? Thank you so much to Avon publishing, Net Galley and Meg Cabot for providing an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Oh Meg 😍
I have read several of Meh Cabot's novel throughout my life and this is by far one of my favorites.
Jessica (love when I share a name with the FMC) is a cottage witch and I'm here for it.
Derrick comes to rescue the day but can he save his relationship that he's connecting to Jessica with.
I may have found my new witchy vibes series.
This was fun and cozy, though the plot is so convoluted that it's almost nonsensical. I liked the main characters and the setting, but it needed 200% less plot.
As a fan of Meg Cabot, it was really fun to read a new book by her! I really loved the theme of witch trials from a historical perspective.
Sweet, fun, mildly spicy. There isn't anything too surprising here but you really wouldn't want there to be, or, I wouldn't, at least. The clothing descriptions were a fun bonus.
This was a fun, cute witchy romance. I loved the characters' witty banter and inner dialogues (Meg Cabot's forte). The plot was a little silly, but in a fun way. The romance was very enjoyable and I enjoyed the witchy elements, However, the magical climax to the story was a little lackluster, especially after the buildup about facing down a magical catastrophe. But I still enjoyed it!
Meg Cabot's book Enchanted to Meet You was a delightful read that is funny and romantic.
The main character, Jess, like other Meg Cabot heroines feels like one of your best friends. When Jess hangs out with her friends, you feel like you want to hang with them. By the time you get to the end of the book, you will wish you lived in this little New England town.
If you enjoyed books like the "Boy Series" you will like Enchanged to Meet You. I loved reading the text messages that the characters send each other.
Note: Some people read the description and think that this is going to be fantasy/paranormal. Its not that kind of book. There are no dragons, spells etc.. Its a romance that just happens to have some magic in it.
What a sweet, spooky tale! Meg Cabot has a Halloween treat in "Enchanted to Meet You"!
A witchy rom-com from New York Times bestseller Meg Cabot about a plus size witch who must team up with a handsome stranger to help protect her village from an otherworldly force—but will she be able to protect her heart?
In "Enchanted to Meet You" we get introduced to Meg Cabot's new world of witchery.
Jessica Gold, our main character, is a cottage witch since her teenaged years; she's not born in a witch family, but in Cabot's universe a person's will also counts, there's no need for bloodline, so Jessica learned magic. Because she's not a born-witch, she can't be a member of the World Council of Witches, but she receives a visit from one of its members (Derrick) alerting her of her town's impeding doom in... a week!
Jessica doesn't know much about Derrick, but gets to trust him anyways, and together they have to figure out a way to save Jessica's town.
This is a rom-com and there's a lot more to be explored in this universe, and I hope there are more books to follow. I read someone say this is is slow-burn romance. This is definitely NOT a slow burn romance. It all happens in the span of a week! Which is the downpoint in my opinion, it all happens in such short time that some things aren't that believable to me (and I know we are talking about magic, that's not the point) - I know it helped with some of the drama, but I wish we had more time.
I liked the side characters as well and can't wait until one day Meg has a queer MC instead of only side ones. I hope we can see more of them in the next books.
It's a feel good book. I wanted to see what would happen next so I couldn't put it down.
This book is part coming-of-age, part romance, with a supernatural twist. Cabot said she was inspired by an article about descendants of people found guilty during the Connecticut Witch Trials , which I find to be a very interesting concept. Although many of the characters are descendants of witches, the story shows that people can make their own magic, and often it is the simplest magic that makes the most profound impact. The romance had a nice pace, and the mystery kept me engaged, however I had a hard time "buying" certain plot elements, and the dialogue often felt unrealistic (I just can't imagine a 30-something year old man from Connecticut saying "bro" that often). Overall, this would be a fun read for the Fall, if you're looking for a "spooky season" vibe.
I have loved Meg Cabot's books ever since I was a teenager. "Enchanted to Meet You" was a wonderful read.
I thought this was from Meghan Quinn, and I definitely had my authors mixed up. No, Meg Cabot wrote princess diaries, which I never got into and didn’t really care for. However, I’m sure the author alone means this book will probably sell well. My accident entirely, so I felt I should give it a shot. Unfortunately, I still don’t feel like the writing works for me. It’s not particularly gripping and really, it felt like the YAs of the early 00’s. I love the new space YA lit has taken over, where themes and nuanced and characters are truly diverse, and this just doesn’t hold a candle. Stopped at 7%.
Sorry to the publisher and the author for this mix up on my part.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC.
I felt like I didn't really know any of the characters, other than everyone is wealthy and attractive. There was an instant love with no romance or tension. The "conflict" comes and goes with little fanfare. Overall a very boring read. This is my first book by the author, who I know is very popular, so I was disappointed.
