This was a cute and charming paranormal rom-com, perfect for spooky season! I loved the small town vibes and the premise was super fun; however, I found the plot to be a bit hard to follow at times with so much going on and the ending felt a bit rushed.
I think I would have enoyed a little more focus on the romance but that is probably just personal preference. Overall I'd still recommend this if you're a fan of witchy rom-coms!
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for the ARC!
With a title straight out of a Taylor Swift song, I truly wanted to love this one. It certainly didn’t disappoint, but it left me wanting. Autumn usually brings out the best kinds of romance. Add in a dash of spooky season and we’re left with “Enchanted to Meet You.”
Jessica Gold, a self-taught cottage witch, leads a nondescript quiet life in West Harbor, CT. But everything changes the day Derrick Winters walks into her store (and her life). Suddenly she’s thrown on a collision course with her own destiny as the so-called “Chosen One” and only a matter of days to save her town.
The book’s strengths lie in how well-rounded and interesting its characters are. They keep the rather convoluted plot engrossing enough to keep reading. I needed to see how everything solved itself in the end, whether or not I actually enjoyed how things were playing out.
My biggest gripe fell on the narrative structure of the book itself. Early chapters find us jump between past and present. And while the split technically make sense, I felt like the journal entry chapters slowed the story’s pace. If they continued throughout the rest of the novel, I might have enjoyed them more. They end somewhat suddenly, quickly replaced by Derrick POV chapters written in 3rd person, a strange divergence from JessIva’s first person POV throughout the rest of the book. The inconsistency threw me off.
Otherwise, I recommend for anyone looking for a cute spooky season romance.
This was a fun read and an interesting plot! I enjoyed the characters but I wished that the climax was a little more fleshed out. Overall, a quick and easy read featuring diverse characters and historical ties. 3.5/5
Enjoyed this book, and has the classic Meg Cabot that always has me coming back for more. I've loved her books since The Princess Diaries, and this was no exception
In her teenage years, Jessica Gold's love spell went horribly wrong, leading to a lifetime ban from the World Council of Witches. Surprisingly, fifteen years later, Derrick Winters, a member of the WCW, arrives in her village claiming she's the Chosen One. But Jess isn't chosen for the town's elite events or the WCW; she's selected to save her village, West Harbor.
Despite her initial skepticism, Jess starts to believe in her abilities, especially as her connection with Derrick deepens. However, doubts arise about Derrick's true identity, forcing Jess to trust him and work together to protect West Harbor from a dark force. As summer wanes, Jess must use her magic not only to save her town but also to safeguard her heart. The question remains: can she harness her power in time to protect the village?
This book was a cute and whimsical read that had a romance that made me feel giddy despite the insta-love trope. The characters like Esther, Dina, and Mark added a lot of fun to the mix, making the story lively and entertaining.
The magical elements kept me hooked, although I hoped for a stronger connection between Jessica and Derrick. The humor sprinkled throughout added a nice touch, but the ending fell a bit flat for me. Overall, a light and enjoyable read, but not without its quirks. Despite any times that the book was underwhelming, I will be keeping an eye out for the next book.
"Enchanted to Meet You" published on September 5, 2023. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was an adorable witchy romance that is perfect for the halloween season when you don't want anything scary. I really enjoyed this and it was a quick read. Of course Meg Cabot has been a must read of mine for ever, so there's no surprise that I enjoyed this. this was a fun 3.5 star read.
This was such a fun read and even though I've never read anything by this author before, I feel compelled to go back and read everything she's ever written. I loved the paranormal and magical activity throughout the whole book, I thought Esther was just lovely and the flirtation happening between Jessica and Derrick was unmatched. Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this copy!
A simple witch finds out she’s The Chosen One who must help save her town from demons! Can she do it and will she find love along the way? 👹
This started really cute but never developed enough to really catch my interest. The MMC, Derrick, felt really one dimensional and the plot was lacking the vibes I expect from a witchy rom-com released just before Halloween, so go in knowing it’s really light on spooky atmosphere. I also thought the ending was really anti-climactic. Like, really anti-climactic. Overall, it was fine, but a bit too cutesy for my liking. I know this author writes both adult and YA books, and for me, this one felt like it didn’t know which bucket it fell into. While geared towards adults, it definitely felt like it was keeping the door open for YA readers and that didn’t work for me. (Think fairly clean storyline, the inclusion of high school aged characters, flashback diary entry chapters from the FMC’s teenage years, etc.) This is the start of a new series, but it just didn’t have enough to hook me to continue the on.
My thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books for a complimentary advance copy of this eBook, out now.
I love witchy romances, and they are so fun especially at this time of year. Surprisingly, I hadn't read any of Meg Cabot's book until this one. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I did enjoy this book.
I love small town stories with witchy and magic elements. The story was fun, but I didn't like the ending. Because of that, I had to lower my rating for this book. I was hoping to like this more, but it ultimately fell flat.
This title fell a little short of my expectations for Meg Cabot as a longtime Princess Diaries fan, but it was a fun read that I got through quickly. I'll pick up the next in the series to see if she gets a little more comfortable in the genre!
This should appeal to readers that like all the books that seem to keep popping up in this witch romance renaissance. While not a standout in the genre, it certainly scratches the itch and the signature Meg Cabot dialogue and banter is a delight. The plot is kind of weak, with more than a few plot holes. But the characters and the setting are very fun and overall the book is a good time.
**A Slow-Burning Enchantment**
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Meg Cabot's "Enchanted to Meet You" is a book that requires a bit of patience, but once you invest your time, you're in for a truly enchanting experience. The story starts off at a leisurely pace, which might deter some readers, but if you persist, you'll be rewarded with a captivating narrative that builds up to something truly great.
The heart of the tale lies in the love story between Jessica and Derrick, a relationship that is both tender and passionate. Cabot skillfully crafts their chemistry, making their connection palpable and utterly captivating. As a reader, I found myself deeply invested in their journey, eagerly anticipating the next twist and turn in their relationship.
What sets "Enchanted to Meet You" apart is the incorporation of the witch story element. The use of Goody Fletcher's book adds an intriguing layer of mystique to the narrative. The concept of a chosen one guided by ancient wisdom is a timeless and compelling theme, and Cabot weaves it seamlessly into the story. The blend of the supernatural with the everyday struggles of the characters creates a rich tapestry that keeps the reader engaged and wanting to know more.
The character of the guide, attempting to steer the chosen one on the right path, adds depth to the storyline. The interplay between fate and free will is explored in a thought-provoking manner, adding philosophical undertones to the narrative.
As the story progresses, the initial slow start is forgotten amidst the unfolding drama, romance, and magical elements. Cabot's writing style is engaging, and her ability to create relatable characters is commendable. By the time I reached the latter parts of the book, I was completely engrossed, eagerly flipping pages to see what would happen next.
In conclusion, "Enchanted to Meet You" might require a bit of patience, but for those who persevere, it offers a rewarding reading experience. The love story between Jessica and Derrick is the beating heart of the novel, and the infusion of witchcraft and destiny adds an exciting dimension. If you enjoy stories that combine romance, magic, and a dash of the supernatural, this book is well worth the read. Cabot's talent for storytelling shines through, making this novel a delightful addition to her body of work.
Many thanks to Avon and NetGalley for my digital review copy.
When I saw that one of my favorite authors from my teen years had a witchy rom com for adults, I was beyond thrilled. Even knowing that the few of Cabot's adult books I've read over the years haven't really worked for me, I felt sure this book would be right up my alley.
Unfortunately, that didn't end up being the case for a few reasons I'lll try to get into here
The book is told in alternating perspectives between Jessica in present day, Jessica's diary from her teenage years, and the perspective of the mysterious new male witch in town, Derrick. I liked the diary entries (though sadly they fall away about halfway through the book), but I was mystified by why Jessica's chapters were in first person while Derrick's were in close third. This mainly served to confuse me because reading "Derrick walked..." during his chapters occasionally made me second-guess whose perspective we were in.
I liked some elements of the magic system that Cabot sets up here, even if it is largely unexplained. The magic book from the past and the elitist witchy organization were fun elements, as was the fact that Jessica is happily a "cottage witch" doing small bits of magic for herself and the people around her. However, there were more questions than answers about how magic works in this world, which may be intentional since it looks like this is meant to be the first book in a series.
The instant attraction and trust between the main characters didn't do much for me either. I just never really bought in to their relationship or felt invested, maybe because it was obvious Derrick was hiding something and we didn't learn what it was until late in the game, even through his chapters.
I also struggled to feel invested in the stakes for the bigger plot, which were unclear from the start and far too easily resolved in the end.
In all, this book felt like a romance with the magic bits tossed in for flavor. Given the way Cabot balances supernatural and romance in other books (like the Mediator series), this felt like a let down for me personally. There were still good bits of humor and little touches throughout that I enjoyed, but I can't say this will go down as a favorite read from this author for me.
Fans of a romance with light supernatural elements and low stakes would likely enjoy Enchanted to Meet You. It's also set in a small town, so you've got those vibes going as well.
This book delivered exactly the cozy, witchy vibes I was hoping for. That said, I feel like plot-wise, so much was going on at once and yet not a whole lot happened. The main relationship, while very cute at times, felt rushed and underdeveloped. I think we could have stood for a little more pining and conflict over why they shouldn't work. If you are in it for the cozy vibes, this book definitely delivers, but if you go in expecting an in depth fantasy experience, you will be disappointed. The ending felt haphazardly pieced together and a little hard to follow, but I still had a good time overall!
I enjoyed the cozy witchy vibes of this book but that’s pretty much the only thing I enjoyed about it. It took me forever to get through because I found it incredibly boring and didn’t feel emotional attached to any of the characters. Kind of wish I ditched this book but oh well!
Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this copy in exchange for an honest review.
2.5 stars.
"Enchanted to Meet You" by Meg Cabot is a fall-feeling witchy romance with way too much going on to be successful. There are far too many plot points and characters in this story. At some point, I found myself confused by it all, all of the rules and guides and abilities and people. Apart from a few spicy scenes, this could have easily been a young adult novel. It reads as extremely juvenile to me. The insta-love between the main characters, Jessica and Derrick, didn't feel or seem realistic. They did not have any chemistry with one another. There is no believability to their relationship. They don't trust each other enough to tell each other the truth, so I as a reader don't believe they actually care about each other (apart from wanting to hook up physically). Derrick has a "secret," but this is neither mysterious nor important to the crux of the story. It's fairly easy to guess what's going on and is not surprising in the slightest. Derrick might be described as attractive, but he is soooooooo painfully boring as a main male character. I almost fell asleep a few times while reading this book. What a big ol' yawn of a character. Though I appreciate Jessica's feminism, I didn't find her all that interesting, either. The finale epic battle comes and goes as little more than a whimper. In the end, "Enchanted to Meet You" feels like one cosmic misfire after the other. It's not particularly captivating or well-written. Really disappointing stuff.
Thank you to NetGalley, Meg Cabot, Avon, and Harper Voyager for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
This was the first Meg Cabot booked I have picked up in a while. I was in love with the cover and the witchy plot. Unfortunately, the book fell a bit short for me. The characters and plot were just average. Not a bad read but not great either.
Thank you to Net Galley for this e copy of Enchanted to Meet You in exchange for a honest review..This is a heartwarming, fell good rom - com about a witch named Jessica who runs a clothing shop in West Harbor, Ct when Derrick Winters enters her life.He is magical in more ways then one.He informs Jessica that she is the Chosen One and has to save the town on the night of the Harvest Ball from lurking evil with the help of The Bringer of Light, Esther who Jess has chosen to mentor. This book has it all- evil, black cats, floods, wolves and especially love.Great Halloween read.
Enchanted to Meet You was a cute little Rom-Com about witches and saving their town of West Harbor against an evil rift. Some aspects I enjoyed about this read were the witchy themes which were perfect for the fall vibes. There was also main character development for Jessica throughout the book. Some things I found troublesome were that there seemed to be too many plot lines being thrown into the mix and it also felt like the overall story was very slow and the last portion was rushed.
Overall the book was enjoyable. 🔮
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ready copy of this book! I loved Meg Cabot as a kid. I thought her books were amazing. I chose this one out of a whim and it is one of my new favorite spooky time books. It feels like a 90s Disney Halloween movie. It got me out of my fall slump and into Halloween. Amazing book and looking forward to reading it every Halloween!
