Evie has been raised as a poor niece with her aunt and uncle in the States But when her cousin asks her to switch places and act as an heiress being presented to the ton in England, Evie ufeels she can hardly refuse but she does not know the ins and outs of society, how to dance, and how to negotiate being a rich American in search of a title.
Evie meets Alexander the Duke who doubts her and despises her for being a “dollar princess”. But they have a special chemistry and a common interest so it is hard to deny their burgeoning romance and ultimate discovery leading to an engagement.
I enjoyed their romance, a couple of story plot twists that were a little coincidental, a very good read.
I was truly on Evie’s side but was not enamoured of her uncle who did not raise her side by side with all the pomp and privileges that his daughter enjoyed.
Maddison Michaels writes funny romantic historical romances with great characters! The Heiress Swap doesn't disappoint. Thank you to net galley and the author for allowing me to read and review. Can t wait to continue to read more by this author.
I have yet to read a book by Maddison Michaels that I didn't consider one of the most riveting and entertaining stories I have ever read. I was extremely fortunate to receive an ARC of The Heiress Swap from Netgalley and voluntarily read and reviewed the story. Yvette Jenkins, Evie, is a highly knowledgeable paleontologist, but poor illegitimate relation to her American uncle's family. Under pressure, she agrees to swap characters with her cousin on a trip to England. Alexander Trenton, sixth Duke of Hargrave has no qualms about proving that Evie, presently known as Aimee, is only out to marry an English title in exchange for her family's money. This story has very well developed characters and is exquisitely written. As I was approaching the end, I began to dread that the story would soon finish and I'd be lost. Super writing skills proven again with this magnificent author who has cast a web of romance, intrigue, wit and entertainment.
Miss Evie Jenkins reluctantly agrees to switch places with her American heiress cousin during a trip to London. Alexander Trenton, sixth Duke of Hargrave, is determined to prove that the lady is just another American "Dollar Princess" desperate for an English title.
Evie is convinced to impersonate her wealthy cousin after the chaperone/traveling companion that was supposed to accompany her was unable to make the journey. Evie is meant to relax and enjoy the museums, while politely rebuffing Aimee's suitors. Meanwhile, cousin Aimee is off on her own adventure (hopefully in the next book). Evie is staying with Hargrave's aunt - a friend of the family - and Alex is immediately suspicious of Evie due to a past failed engagement. He's the typical arrogant Duke who falls right into the trap of "I'm going to protect my friend from falling for this deceitful girl" and then all he wants to do is kiss her himself. This is my first time reading this author, but it won't be my last! I am a sucker for prince/pauper-style retellings involving a swap and this one was fast paced and a lot of fun. The characters had a great chemistry and the story kept me hooked from beginning to end.

Thank you NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, so the identity swap trope is hardly original, and one knows exactly how it’s going to play out…we’ve all seen The Parent Trap and The Princess Swap. BUT. It’s cute, you guys.
Alex is your typical tall, dark, handsome, slightly arrogant, bit up himself lead role who thinks he knows best for everyone else. Evie is…well. Not Aimee. But she’s a feisty, fun loving, clever, sweet little nerd, and my geeky dinosaur loving heart adores her!
The plot, whilst totally unoriginal, has enough banter and sweet moments to keep readers engaged, and obviously Mr Tall Dark and Handsome throws his little tantrum and sends her on her way, but we all know how that turns out eventually. Yep. Do it.
Yes please. Duke who is convinced she’s after a title, heiress who’s not an heiress, magnetic attraction, caught in a cave, murder plot. Yes, all of this. Loved the angst and the pining, loved the groveling at the end. Loved his stubborn nonsense. More like this please.
"I don't know quite what I expected of you, Miss Thornton-Jones, but you certainly haven't been it."
"I want to hear my name on your lips, especially when I see the satisfaction in your eyes after I kiss you."
"Oh, I don't know about that, my dear lady. True, it would be unlikely in a public place like the college; however, my carriage is certainly not a public place now, is it? It is a small, confined, and private space, with just the two of us in it. I could ravish you in here until you screamed in ecstasy, and none would be the wiser."
When Evie accepts her cousin’s proposal to swap roles with her, becoming an American Heiress on her first English trip where she will have the opportunity to explore museums to her palaeontologist’s heart desire, she is expecting to meet and fall in love with a very dashing and insufferable duke who is set to prove that every American Heiress is in need of a husband to get to their money!!!
Alex and Evie’s story was absolutely thrilling and exciting !!!! From enemies to lovers, to forced into marriage, to pretended engagement to fake fiancée with benefits, it was a rollercoaster!!!!
Their banter, their constant discussions and face-offs was only set to create more tension in the mutual attraction they feel for each other that soon enough will lead them down a path of distraction !!!! But when they hearts are decided … will the secrets she is keeping ruin it all?? Will Evie be able to live her fairytale romance story with her handsome but irritating duke ???
The spicy scenes were great and the closed proximity they shared both was even greater !!!! I loved every second of reading this book. I devoured it in fact !!! Read in one sitting !!!! And I am sure you will too !!!
"Can you feel this passion between us?" His voice was gruff as he dragged his eyes back to hers. "This energy that won't go away but instead gets stronger the more I see you, the more time I spend in your company. My head might be telling me you're trouble, but my body doesn't care, and it's burning for you regardless of how unsuitable you are."
"You couldn't blend in if you tried," he replied, jerking a hand through his hair. "You're too damn attractive, even if you were wearing a sack for a dress."
Fast paced romance. This is my first time reading this author and I enjoyed this regency so much I'm going to search for other titles by her! The ending totally surprised me when I found out who the bad person was. Madison Michaels is one of my new favorite authors!
I've read a book by this author before and liked it. The Heiress Swap convinced me to request on Netgalley by the blurb.
Two cousins went to England, one is wealthy and one not so, so they switch places. Evie would have a chance to see museums since she loves fossils and her cousin will train to be in her father’s company since wealthy women don’t usually work and she wants to prove herself to her father.
Evie, unfortunately, catches the attention of the duke. He is convinced she wants his money.
The rest of the book was okay. I was surprised by the drama that followed Evie and the result of it. The ending disappointed me a little because I felt like his uncle let her down and she was raised in her cousin’s shadow for absolutely no reason. I think she forgot too easily. I also felt like Alexander only decided to go after her once he discovered the truth of her past and the letters from his mother. I was annoyed that he kept referring to Evie as a Dollar Princess even though she continued to prove him otherwise.
3.5 stars.
I loved this book! The heroine was very likeable and sweet and the characters were developed quite nicely. The novel didn't jump into lusting after each other from the start and didn't focus on the sexual attraction as many other books do, so I very much appreciated it.
As a historic romance novel goes, this is one of the good ones out there right now.
I am typically not into the series but I would love to read what happened to her cousin...
Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange of my honest review.
Thank you Maddison Michael’s for writing another book I couldn’t put down and thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC!
The story kicks off right away and I do appreciate it, two cousins, one an heiress and one a bastard decide to switch places both wanting to experience something out of their norm. Evie our pretend heiress is immediately questioned by Alex our Duke who doesn’t trust American heiresses about her true intentions. He wants to save his cousin from her clutches and the only way to do that is to get between them by seducing Evie himself and outting her as just a title hungry woman.
I loved this book. The chemistry between Evie and Alex. She has to hide who she really is, but she still can’t help sparring and conversing with Alex who she shares many interests with. And Alex is just a dumb dumb who for believable reasons doesn’t want to fall in love but just can’t help himself whenever he’s around Evie.
This book was a quick enjoyable read and I can’t wait for more!
The Heiress Swap is definitely a book you can't put down, but the what would you expect from Maddison Michaels? This book has romance, mystery, drama, and passion. It is about the adventures and misadventures of Evie who swaps places with her cousin Aimee. The Heiress Swap is a story that flows so naturally you have read half the book before you even realize it and then you can't possibly put it down. The characters are lively, beautiful, and fiery. I love a book the sparks! This is a great book and I recommend it to everyone.
I would like to thank Entangled Publishing for the advanced reader copy. It in no way influenced my opinion of the book.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I just was not in love with it. I liked the beginning how the girls switched and get to try different things. I just wish that the ending was a little better. I guess I just did not like how she was treated and then she forgives right away. Just was not in love it.
The Heiress Swap by Maddison Michaels is such a fun read. The book got a little sweet historical romance, an intellectual information about fossils, an interesting bickering between characters, a great supporting characters, a little suspense from the actions scenes and a little from the heartbreak.
Evie has agreed to switch places with her cousin and instead of working as secretary, she are about to become the American Heiress in London. Alex, the Duke of Hargrave are determined to prove Evie is just the American "Dollar Princess" who only come to London to marry for a title. However, there are so many truth to reveal.
This book is really easy to read and the bantering between the characters makes it fun to read. With an interest in the fossils, the characters found something to unite them. The love making scenes are well written although it is much more of teasing scenes in the begining of the book.
I'll definitely be reading more from Madison Michaels and I'm looking forward to read about Aimee in the next story.
4.5 Stars! I really enjoyed reading this book. The main characters are Evie Jenkins, the illegitimate cousin of an heiress and Alex/Duke of Hargrave, a grumpy and distrustful ‘Richard’ who I found hard to like for most of the book. This book has a mix of mystery, ‘sexy times’, frenemies to lovers, witty banter, whodunnit, a page-turner, forced engagement, with a wonderful female main character and a grumpy male main character, surprises, twists and turns left and right, with a ‘bad guy’ you won’t see coming and a HEA ending. I’d definitely recommend this book, it was very entertaining and I enjoyed reading it.
*I received this at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*

THIS BOOK!
I absolutely loved every minute of this book! The plot is zany and madcap in all the right ways. It was so much fun to read.
Evie and her cousin Aimee decide to swap places on their trip to England so they can both experience something different. Evie is the more proper cousin, but she also is the poor relation with a love of fossils and a desire to visit museums. So when her cousin talks her into switching places, it seems like a fine plan. Needless to say, things don't go as they planned. Historical romance with The Parent Trap vibes is my new favorite trope!
Our hero, Alex, is a duke that has vowed not to marry after being betrayed by his former fiancée. He thinks Evie is trying to marry a title and that she's after his cousin, so he vows to prevent that and ends up getting caught in a compromising position with her himself.
This book had everything... murder plot, fake engagement, sassy heroine, a gallop across a ballroom... it was so much fun!
This book comes out on July 25th, and I fully intend to pick up a print copy for my keeper shelf.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my favorite love story thus far. This author is one of the most talented writers I've ever read. What a ride! Fun people through out. Especially the protagonists. Loved the twists and turns. What a creative story. Recommend this read to anyone, especially if you're a romantic!!
Thanks to NetGalley & Entangled Publishing for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
THE HEIRESS SWAP by Maddison Michaels has a fantastic premise and so many pieces that I should have adored:
- Enemies-to-lovers
- Falsified identities
- Hero & heroine connecting over palaeontology, of all things
- A dash of attempted murder mystery
- Great side characters with hints of potential future books (loved the teasers of Aimee/Harrison's romance, and hopefully sweet sunny Brexton will get his own book as well)
However, the pieces didn't quite come together for me, and I think the execution of the story let it down. While I like Yvette (Evie)--our intelligent, serious, fossil-loving heroine--well enough, I never quite connected with her. And Alex, the duke, is honestly just a bit frustrating with how circular his logic is. The plot felt contrived and for how smart our two main characters are supposed to be, it was hard to believe that they wouldn't have figured out the attempted murder plot earlier on, and that they wouldn't have already communicated about the swapped identities before it became a source of last minute conflict. A lot of the plot threads (including Evie's parentage and Alex's backstory with his fiancé) felt shoehorned in and not adequately explored-- a lot of these story elements are told rather than shown, which didn't help with my feeling of lack of connection to the main pairing.
The Heiress Swap is a fabulous book by Maddison Michaels. Ms. Michaels has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a phenomenal cast of characters. Yvette was born on the wrong side of the blanket. Her parents died and her aunt raised her until she too passed away. Since then she's been living in America with her cousin and aunt and uncle. Now Aimee has convinced her to swap places on their trip to England. That way Aimee can train in her father's office and learn more about his company and Yvette can visit all the museums she wants. Alex is a Duke and finds himself engaged to an American. Their story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Maddison Michaels.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
