I’m honestly vacillating between 2.5-3 stars. As a Disney and Alice in Wonderland fan, I really wanted to completely love this manga. There are parts I did enjoy- I like Yu’s character. The portal transport I understand….and it is a twist on Alice falling down the hole; however, it falls a little flat for me. Love Riddle and I’m looking forward to seeing how his “off with their heads” comments actually play out….he’s a good villain. I clapped a bit when the crew ended up at the Seven Dwarves cottage….was hoping for a bit of crossover, but nothing yet.
Maybe if I was a gamer and had played the game, I would have understood better the elements being brought together. I did enjoy it enough I will continue the series….that’s the Disney nut in me.
While interesting, I found this manga a bit hard to follow. That may be because I am not familiar with the IP, and it is possible that the story relies on a fan's prior knowledge. The art was great, with interesting scene composition and a fun Disney-but-spooky aesthetic. I did like the character designs as well.
Overall this is a compelling read for middlegrade to highschool students - and beyond. As an adult I enjoyed the story although it did read as a Juvy title, which is to be expected.

I just reviewed Disney Twisted-Wonderland, Vol. 1 by Yana Toboso; Wakana Hazuki; Sumire Kowono. #DisneyTwistedWonderlandVol1 #NetGalley
Fantastic art work and wonderful introduction to the Twisted Kingdoms saga. The characters were drawn in the typical manga style but with enough differences to make the individuals stand out.
While the plot was, as ever, quite complicated and based on lots of coincidences and cliche, it was done in such a light-hearted way that you don't mind.
It took a moment to get into the reading order habit and I do wish that it had all been in colour but other than that it was brilliant.
We will definitely be buying this for our library.
This is basically a comic version of what I remember from the early part of the mobile app - It's fine, but nothing that will keep my interest.
This is a fun and lighthearted start to a series that could be delightful and romantic, in my opinion. The art style is very pretty and makes all of the characters look very attractive. I would genuinely describe this as a book filled entirely with "Tumblr sexymen." The plot doesn't really develop much in this first volume, but it's a pretty standard isekai. A boy from the normal world is transported into a magical land where he has the chance to attend a school (even as a janitor) and interact with half a dozen gorgeous boys on a daily basis. Even with the threads of plot woven through it, I'm genuinely more excited about seeing panels featuring the other sons of famous Disney villains than finding out what the conflict of the story might be. And while I personally think that Grim could be a bit cuter and less cartoon-ish, he's loveable as a comedy antagonist. This is pretty much A+ Tumblr bait and Disney adult fantasy wish fulfillment and I'm honestly living for it. 5/5 stars.
I have been anxiously waiting for this for so long. I love the idea and it is giving similar vibes to Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun mixed with Kingdom Hearts. SO GOOD
I felt like the first story of him in the real world was more compelling than the mage school. I need more background on the school and it’s founders.
This manga reminded me a lot of Kingdom Hearts. The premise is very similar of a human character getting sucked into a world where various Disney universes are merged together. The main character involuntarily becomes involved with a magic school in a place that has many references to Alice in Wonderland. I liked the art style and some of the characters that were introduced. While I did not hate the story, I did not get invested into it enough where I would continue reading future volumes. I think fans of classic Disney cartoons and/or Kingdom Hearts may enjoy this series however.
A young student wakes up in a coffin and finds himself in a world filled with magic and villains. Trapped in this strange new world, he must navigate the social hierarchy to stay on good terms with the temperamental staff and hopefully find a way back to his world.
Twisted indeed, this manga has loads of easter eggs referencing Disney villains and the magical Disney kingdom. With any manga, it takes a little extra brain power to follow the story due to it being the opposite direction Western folk are used to reading. However, getting past that gives way to a wonderful first installment of a fun, and twisted tale full of Disney magic.
Twisted Wonderland is a manga adaptation of the mobile game with the same name. For those who have played the game, it is almost a word-for-word copy of the cut scenes. This volume is perfect for those who are interested in the idea and execution without the mobile game's mechanics. The story is pretty straightforward, though it may be confusing for those completely unfamiliar with the game. I did not finish the manga itself because I had played the game and found it too similar to warrant my attention. However, I can see this going over well for Disney fans and manga fans alike.
This was not necessarily my favorite manga I've ever read, but it was a fun read regardless. I found it interesting that at this school the villains are praised, and the character that is modeled after the queen of hearts seems really interesting. I recently heard good things about the series so I'll try out book 2, but no promises I'll continue after that
This was an okay read. It wasn’t my favourite, but I still enjoyed it. The artwork was stunning and blew me away. It was easy to get lost in the story and the plot itself was interesting. However, I did struggle with the characters. No matter how hard I tried or how absorbed I was in the story, I couldn’t make myself care about them. Overall, hit and miss, but I’m still glad I read it and would recommend people check it out and make their own minds up. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.
I had a bit of a mixed feeling about Disney Twisted-Wonderland, volume 1. First, the artwork is absolutely brilliant. It's beautiful and fits the story wonderfully. The graphic action scenes are easy to understand and engaging. Where I struggled is the story. There is a lot of set up in this volume. I spent a lot of time feeling like I was missing something. After further research, I discovered it follows a game. I don't know if I playing that game would have helped my comprehension of the story, but I know it couldn't have hurt it any. Despite that, I think it was pretty easy to follow. I had to make a few plot assumptions, but again, those story and world building explanations might have been omitted simply because they were ingrained in the games. Despite that, I enjoyed the graphic novel, the characters, and the story overall. I think this is something that my manga reading patrons will enjoy as well.
I primarily chose to read it because I get automatic approval from Disney and I was in the mood for a graphic novel or manga. Given that I am not familiar with The Twisted Wonderland mobile game I don't think I was the intended audience and I don't think I should have requested it.
Without knowledge of the game, this just wasn't an interesting read. Maybe it would have been find if I'd ever played it but, since I haven't, I can't really judge. I would likely suggest it to someone if they were interested in manga and if I knew they'd played but this is definitely not for a non-fan.
Overall I enjoyed the book and it moved at a nice pace. At first I had some points I was confused on but then immediately understood as I continued reading. Very interesting and love certain details.
Based on the popular mobile game from Aniplex and Disney, this manga adaptation gives fans of the game a new way to experience the wonder and magic of the Twisted Wonderland series! Stranded in the world of Twisted Wonderland, Yu must brave a magical school filled with ghosts, monsters, and uncooperative students!
I always wish more of these were in color because I love the artwork!
Wonderful story that makes me want to read the next book and see where this could possibly go!
Bizarre to try and see Disney villains as idols that did good things?
Thank you NetGalley!!

On his way home from Kendo practice, Yu finds himself whisked away to another world filled with magic and mystery. Dropped off at Night Raven College in the fantastical land of Twisted Wonderland, there's just one big problem. Yu has no magic. At all. Yu takes up a temporary job as the school janitor, while hoping to find any clues on how to get back home. Meanwhile, he finds himself wrapped up in the hijinks of the students and his fate hinges on helping the troublesome first years from being expelled.
It starts out with an interesting isekai/other world plot, mentioning your favorite villains while introducing an entire cast of handsome characters. That's about it though. The personalities of most of the characters are unpleasant and grating, especially the male version of the Queen of Hearts. The plot feels haphazard and I'm not certain I'd pick up the second volume.
