A Blood Deep Darkness (Book 1, Dark Reunion Series) – Tish Thomas
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and have provided an honest review in exchange.
Tish Thomas is an American author from Florida, who loves genres such as science fiction, horror and supernatural romance.
The blood system with the Vampires and the Lycans has held the world at its mercy since the war – or what is also known as The Annihilation War.
Camden, is an undercover operative working for a rebellion group looking to overthrow the system. But his latest mission is to retrieve a long lost, almost fabled vampiric tome, the Vampiric Triumph. This tome contains the secrets to a ritual, the ritual of the King of Darkness, to give control of a child with untold power.
Lycan heiress, Danielle, is on the run from her pack Alpha – who is determined to see her dead and wipe out her entire family line. Yet Danielle must also find a way to rescue her sister from the death sentence she has been given by their Alpha.
At this point is where Camden and Danielle cross paths.
Yet is seems the prophecy everyone has ignored is finally coming out in the light of day and neither Camden nor Danielle can ignore the feelings growing between them. In a constant battle of survival and fighting for their lives, they must face the consequences of the prophecy which is linked to a curse which is all about love and death.
Together will they accept their love and fight what fate has instore or succumb to a gruesome and final end.
“A Blood Deep Darkness” is a paranormal romance story between a vampire and a lycan, creatures often regarding as mortal enemies. The writing style for me in this one was really confusing and hard to follow. It took me forever to realise what Camden is. I also found it hard to follow what was happening in the story as one minute you are in present tense and then you are suddenly revisiting a memory – but most of the time it isn’t clear which is which, so I often had to re-read a page or two to make sense of what was happening. I really did want to enjoy the story but as I couldn’t follow what was taking place or why, I just couldn’t engage in the story or with the characters.
Danielle and Camden are our MC’s, and Camden is a vampire and Danielle is a werewolf. There are definitely Dystopian vibes as vampires have taken over the world. Camden is working with a rebellion group to end the blood system that is now in place.
I loved the attraction between Camden and Danielle. It’s definitely a story about forbidden love because they aren’t supposed to be together, which makes the tension between them palpable and just delicious.
My heart truly went out to Camden - his family kind of sucks! They lied to him, and for a good portion of his life he thought he was human. He definitely maintains a lot of human-like characteristics. He is very mysterious and reserved. The scene when they were in the airport was pretty gut-wrenching to read and you could feel the emotions through the book because he was terrified.
Danielle is an awesome FMC - she’s badass and will do anything to protect the ones she loves. I connected with her right away!
The world-building is extremely intricate. I struggled a bit with the writing style and was very confused in the beginning, but my questions were answered as I read more of the book.
I would definitely recommend this one! It’s fast paced and full of action, drama, and tension! I’ll be reading the series just because I need to know what happens next! Beware… it does end on a cliffhanger!
This book did not meet my expectations in the slightest. To give the author credit, the world she created was impressive. Her writing style was just really bad though.
There were tons of inconsistencies in the story, the POV changes in the middle, and major plot points are forgotten right after they happen, and the flow of the story got interrupted by flashbacks without any clear direction. There were incidents created in the story to cause commotion but it really just made it confusing to read and it was all over the place, as they were forgotten like two pages later. I could go on and on about this book being bad, but I think it’s a waste of time to do that.
Thank you for the ARC!
Vampires and werewolves working together, yes, please! This one felt like an early 2000s movie, and I loved every bit of it
A brilliant name for a fav vampire book ! I loved this read it in one sitting. I’m a huge vampire fan.
This is one of the best vampire books I have read since empire of the vampire a few years ago and I loved it so much
2 stars
This book had a great premise, I was really intrigued. The first chapter pulled me in, it was exciting, with a number of suspenseful and mysterious elements, right at the beginning. However, after that initial few chapters the story and characters slowly took a downhill turn for me. The sequence of events in the story were off a bit and jumbled. We kept getting new elements in the story and more questions on top of each other without getting a lot of answers. I made it ¾ of the way through the book still not having certain things laid out or explained in this world. I really did not have strong feelings for the main characters either because while there were a lot of things happening, I only got a vague sense of them and really wanted more. My interest and focus near the end really tapered off. I found the plot interesting and the world, but it was lacking for me in several other areas.
I received this advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
Title: A Blood Deep Darkness

Genre: Romance, Fantasy
Rating: ☆☆
Great idea, poor execution.
I'm so upset that I didn't enjoy this book because the plot had SO much potential. The whole idea was so great, and I'm a huge fan of vampires and lycanthropes- but this was not it.
Somethings were just too fantastical... like to the point where things just didn't make sense. I feel like Tish Thomas just really wanted certain things to happen and since it was her book and her world she can make anything happen. But, to the rest of us, it just doesn't make sense and is hard to wrap our head around as readers and feels inconsistent and messy and most of all- not believable.
The flashbacks were too much and poorly executed. I didn't enjoy them- or the amount of them. I understand flashbacks and their relevance, but this was just not well done.
A for effort, but I won't be recommending. It just needs too much work.
Thank you to NetGalley and Tish Thomas for sending this book for review consideration! All opinions are my own.
I could not finish this book, it had fundamental problems. First, I'm aware that it's an unedited version, but I had a problem with how the flashback scenes were done. Our male MC is a vampire, so alot of the flashbacks it was hard to tell they were flashbacks because he's the same age, and talking with other vampires that are in the main story so you don't realise when the time period is. My second big problem was how the world operates, why would vampires eradicate their food source? It makes no sense, they're just signing their death warrant at that point. My third was the inconsistences with the lycanthropes, how when not having super human strength is the MC's sister supposed to pull a heart out of a badass vampire generals without even turning her hand into claws. Like no, ribcages do not work like that, sorry. I just couldn't get over the funadmental issues with the world.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy of A Blood Deep Darkness. This was dark and juicy! I will have to get copies for my book shop.
I did not finish this book. I tried multiple times to get into this book, and just couldn't do it. I loved the idea and wanted so badly to be able to get into it, but I had a really hard time following the writing style. It felt random and disjointed at times and it prevented me from being able to really get into the story, almost like there were tangents in the middle of a thought.
As I previously mentioned, I loved the idea for this book. I love vampires and lycans, wars against fantasy races, and a good romance to tie it all together. I love dual and multi POV narration, which this book has.
I will not be leaving a review on Amazon or any of my social media as I don't want to deter other readers from trying this book simply because I had a hard time getting into it.
This book was so confusing. I don't think I knew what was going on for most of the book. I think that it needs another read through before being published.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book for an honest review!
I liked the premise and the characters, but both didn't seem to be fleshed out fully. I struggled with the story's pacing and transitions. Some things were so drawn out and then others left me feeling like I somehow missed something, only to go back and check and it just wasn't there..

This story has lots of potential, but sadly the execution was poor. This book read like an unedited first draft. There were so many errors and inconsistencies. POVs would change without warning. I had to go back an reread sections because I didn’t know what was going on. For example in one part, the character goes from standing to being tied to a chair with no explanation of how it happened - as if the author changed her mind about the scene and forgot to update it. I really wanted to love this book. I love vampires and lycans and the world created is fascinating. There are moments of good prose and moments of what the heck did I just read??! I think this story has potential but needs a lot of editing before it’s ready for publication. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
Never read a Vampire romance like this one. A Blood Deep Darkness is an excellent forbidden romance debut by Tish Thomas.
Sooo, rant time! I thought this book was Brilliant, Won't lie, though... I could tell it was a really early copy and needed some trimming but I just loved the story! Will be checking out the second book by this author and hopefully we'll get more backstory on some of the minor characters. I loooved Danielle and Camden's relationship. The way their personalities and struggles played off each other gave me such brutal heartbreak at times. Following their romance was my favorite part of the book,
The way the author drew the pieces of the prophecy into the lives of the character was crushing, I've seen other authors try this with less success, but Thomas really hit a great rhythm. For this being a debut novel, I think after a good polish it'll have it have true promise!
⭐️3.5 /5
Okay but who doesn’t love a book about vampires and wolves?
Genre: paranormal romance
- enemies to lovers
- Forbidden love
- Betrayals
- Vampire romance
- Warfare and prophecies
- Redemption
- Alpha females
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was a lot of characters introduced at the start which was a bit hard to get around but once the story got going, it took off!
Loved how this fantasy story was set in a modern setting too so it felt relatable in some way (here’s me hoping that vampires and wolves really do exist in todays world).
Vampires vs Lycans and corrupt regulation vs the resistance - a highly complex world of politics, regulation, and betrayal. And yes, lost love, and found but seemingly doomed love tied to the 'big prophecy'. If you like detailed and complex alternate worlds, this will fit the bill - kind of slow moving and overly detailed in parts, but does get there.
So this book was alright??? I have very mixed feelings cause I really really wanted to like it and I felt like it had verrrryyyy high potential but it was sooooo drawn outtttt in some areas and it really felt like it moved beyond slow. The world building is cool but it could’ve been cut in half and had more detail put into other things. It made it really hard to get into unfortunately.
Thank you to @netgalley for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Blood Deep Darkness is book one in The Dark Reunion Series by Tish Thomas.
I really really enjoyed this book! I'll admit I got a bit lost in there, but found my way back by the end.
This book is exquisitely written. I found the cast of characters as interesting and overwhelming as I found the world.
I really enjoyed following Camden and Danielle’s journey.
Thomas delivers on the action, ambiance, character development, and an interesting plot.
The world building is incredibly vibrant and enthralling.
Truly I’m ready for the second one.

Thank You NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I don't really know how to feel about this book.
1. The world-building was pretty... unique? It didn't deal with super original ideas by any means, I mean it's a vampire romance, but something about the conflicts, clan clashes, and characters showed a lot of thought.
2. There are some overly lengthy and overly short descriptions. For example, one excessively long part about the body of a beautiful, flirtatious nurse tending to him was unnecessary. In some parts the descriptions were too succinct, leaving the reader confused about the character's situation.
3. The plot was intriguing and the romance was *chef's kiss*, but there are still lots of grammatical mistakes that need to be fixed.
