An incredibly slow burn tale of doomed fated mates, politics between the Lycans and vampires with one side holding all the power. A tale of deep corruption and betrayal and setting things right. The characters were slow to develop and confusing at times but the reader does fall into the story after awhile. The plot development was quite slow and confusing to start and more backstory would have been helpful. The slow burn was incredibly slow and teasing leaving you not quite satisfied. Can’t post a review on goodreads as the book doesn’t have a page there
I enjoyed the storyline but I had a hard time with the spelling errors and sentence structure errors. It might help having another round of editing before publishing.
good story!
a little messy and confusing story telling but entertaining none the less
the typos really got me though, think this might need another edit
This novel was okay/good. It took a while for me to get into it and the first few chapters seemed like they untethered and ungrounded when it came to the rest of the plot. It picked up quite nicely after Danielle and Camden finally crossed paths.
The story was told in multiple points of views with characters of varying likeability. I liked Danielle and Camden’s point of views enough, but found that characters such as Abigail were too two-dimensional and there was no reason for me to empathise with them. Danielle seemed like a character who was the antithesis to Abigail’s recklessness, she actually ended up on the other end of the extreme, seeming very passive. There were many moments where I thought she was active decisions even if she seemed a bit like a martyr hurtling into danger, but actually when I thought about it, she didn’t do a lot. It seemed as if she tried, but ultimately, she spent most of the time at home or protected by other people. She didn’t seem as important to the plot as she was said to be.
The writing was really detailed, but at times I felt it was too dense and I had so many questions that just went unanswered. I assume these will be answered along the series, but it felt like I was dropped in the midst of the story and the author hadn’t really paid attention to reader experience in slowly getting them used to the world. It’s a tricky thing to balance though, and so I appreciate it isn’t so easy.
The romance parts of this novel were good and they were what I liked the most. At first, it seemed that Camden and Danielle’s story had hit the gas too hard, but after a few chapters it eased up. They had a really lovely relationship for the middle 60% of the novel. They grew together really nicely and I think it was by far the best part of the novel.
Overall, I thought this book could’ve been really good with a few more drafts to work through some of the world-building and pov aspects. But the romance really saved it.
Thank you to netgalley and the author for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
