Bachelorette TV show with second chance romance mix-up? Sign me up! This book genuinely surprised me at the end with such good dialogues and I loved every bit of it!

This book revolves around Emily Ann who gets roped into a reality TV show 'The Love Rematch' to find herself a partner. On the day of entering the set she finds the one guy who left her with no goodbye seven years ago standing in front of her again. Little did she know, Jake is not a suitor for the show but the producer. He is not here to be with here, he is here to set her up!

Coming to the start, I was skeptical almost upto the halfway of the book. The book was slow paced and I did not bond much with the characters too. Although there were several eye contacts between the MCs, I wasn't able to feel the angst, sexual tension or chemistry that much at the start. The past connection between the MCs did pop up in flashbacks but I wanted more!
I started grabbing every single nook of the book when the MCs actually started losing control over themselves and let their feelings out. Also, Emily deciding to take revenge on Jake added so much heat to the book by this point. I loved how they blended the acting to the reality and seeing Jake trying to control himself had me screaming and giggling so hard🤭
From the realizations to the confessions, each scene was so thoroughly threaded.
One thing I look for in romance books is how good the dialogues are. This one had some of the best🤌❤️. It felt as if the entire book was built up for the end with the emotions of the characters being conveyed out beautifully.
|| "And no matter what happens, I’ll keep on loving you as long as my fucked-up heart is beating. God knows I’ve made mistakes. I’ll never forgive myself for leaving you the way I did, when you needed me most, and I need you to know that whatever you’re about to say, I’ll be here. I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving you ever again. I’m yours as long as you’ll have me. And I’ll prove it to you. I’ll spend the rest of my life proving it to you if I have to, I—” ||
Also, the final reveals were really good and I couldn't keep the book down at all. Although, I was skeptical on one thing, I did not mind it much as I got what the book intended to do. It gave me the fast pace and 'almost there to find their forever' vibes😭🫶
|| "I want the boring days and I want the extraordinary ones too. I want them all, Em. I want all of you...if you'll have me." ||
In short, this book is a fun, relaxing, and comfort read for all the contemporary, rom-com lovers out there.

•~• All a woman needs to take on the world is a pair of killer earrings and a ring with enough carats to cut— the girlier, the better.
•~• "Which has a view of…”
“Your room.” She snorts.
“I thought you were going to say the ocean or something.”
“Not nearly as enticing.”
•~• Jake doesn’t look directly at her. He can’t. It would be like staring into the sun, painful and blinding with its glory.
•~• He chuckles softly. The deep, throaty sound stays with her long after he leaves. It makes home in the spot where her anger once lived like a new sprout after a forest fire, the first sign of life in a once-barren place.
•~• “I’m pissed. Pissed that you tried so hard to rope me back in, just to what? Turn your back and leave? Well, news flash. I saw that movie already. I didn’t need a sequel.”

I thank Netgally and Kay Marie for the eARC.
The characters were really well written and everything moved at such an incredible pace that you were sucked into the storyline really quick. It was such a page turner!
Emily is such a sweetheart and a truly good person at heart. Throughout the book you can see that she grows as into a strong individual but that she still remains incredibly compassionate. Something that is needed for our mmc Jake.
He starts off as closed off but the second they see eachother, it’s over. The cracks around his facade start to fade and he suddenly becomes the love stricken 17-year old boy again. He had some issues to overcome and he wasn’t sure that he could, but Emily truly helped him. His character arc was amazing.
Their constant sexual tension was 🥵 The book isn’t inherently spicy, but when the spice hits, it hits👌🏼
And the ending left me in tears, it was so heartwarming.
I went into this book unsure if I’d like it since I hadn’t read a story where there was a reality show involved, and I ended up loving it. It had me hooked from the very beginning. The relationship development between Jake and Emily is so well written. I always love the tension, the angst, and the jealousy that appear in books where the main tropes are forced proximity and second chance, and this one was no exception. Especially liked the little flashbacks throughout the book that let us see a glimpse of their past together during high school.
I also really enjoyed the interactions between the side characters and the MCs. Can't wait to find out more about the main leads who are going to be in the upcoming books.
I hope The Love Rematch receives the hype and attention it deserves. Overall, it’s such a cute, quick read that can help you get out of a reading slump.
The Love Rematch is about Emily, whos mother goes on national television to beg America to find her boyfriend, from there the clip goes viral and she becomes the lead of a dating show called The Love Match.
This book was so fun to read, and the FMC was a really likeable character. Emily is so true to herself even in when being a part of a reality TV show. Her sister is also amazing in this book, and it made me wish I had a sister like that. Some of the conversations and happenings throughout the book were a bit confusing for me, which made it difficult to read at times. Overall I enjoyed the book, and would recommend.
3.25⭐️
The Love Rematch is a fun, second chance romance set on a dating show (very Bachelorette-esque), where the FMC is the lead in the dating show (The ‘Bachelorette’ if you will), and the MMC is one of the producers on the show.
Once high school sweethearts, a bump in the road in their teens caused them to separate. Now, 7 years later, they are reunited unexpectedly on ‘The Love Match’, what could go wrong?
The Love Rematch is full of laughs, jealousy, flashbacks, and also features a great sister relationship. This is a fun, quick read if you like a second chance romance and the theatrics that come with reality dating shows. Fans of shows like The Bachelorette and books like Jodi McAlister’s ‘Here for the Right Reasons’ would enjoy this book!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.
This book had no business being that good!! I am so pleasantly surprised! I received this as an advanced copy and had no real context going into it, and it turned out to be one of my favorite reads of the year.
If you are a fan of the Bachelor/Bachelorette series, you will love this. It is SPOT-ON with the remake of it (The Love Match is the show in the book) which made this book that much funnier. I mean, down to the names (Chris Harrison is Keith Holson, Mike Fleiss is Nick Weiss) And they even do a naked bungee jumping date (hi Hannah Brown)
This had me in all my feels - I laughed, I cried, I swooned - everything you want in a rom-com. Emily and Jake’s story is adorable, yet so many twists and turns along the way I didn’t see coming, and the last 75% I was completely on my toes.
The writing was SO good, so mature, and not cheesy at all, which is what makes this book so much more than your average, beach-read, rom-com. Nothing was too cliché, and it was a perfectly slow burn without being too slow, or too insta-love. Lots of character growth too.
Overall, pick this up, I highly recommend it. Don’t let the cartoon character cover fool you - this has depth! I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the second book in the series (about Emily’s sister) coming in 2024.
Thank you, NetGalley and Kay Marie for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
Second chance/secret romance while on the "set" of a Bachelorette style show?? Yes please. This was a really great story that follows Emily and Jake.
Emily and Jake reunite while she is the Bachelorette on the show called The Love Match. Emily had her heartbroken 7 years earlier by Jake, since then it appears she had sworn off love. One day her twin sister calls her to ask her to turn on the news to see that their mom has "volunteered" her to be the next contestant on The Love Match. We get to follow both MC's as they grow and realize things maybe are not what they seem.
The jealousy and tension was amazing, it made me keep reading! I couldn't put it down.
The Love Rematch comes out on 16th October 2023.
Firstly, allow me congratulate Kay for this amazing accomplishment that is publishing a book. Girl, you should be so, so proud. Also, a big fat thank you to her and Netgalley for sending me the ARC of the book in exchange for my honest review.

My review:
Let me start by saying I was not expecting this book to be written in 3rd person. In fact, I don't remember the last time I read a contemporary romcom that was written in anything else than 1st person.
Is it a bad thing? Absolutely and 100% no.
Did it feel a bit odd? Sometimes it did, yes. But I'm sure it had more to do with my own preconceptions and preferences and nothing with the story and style.
In fact, Kay's writing is fun and curated and you can tell she put a lot of care in the words she picked. As a language nerd myself, I do appreciate when authors take their time and give the word choice the weight it deserves.
The story itself gives a fun twist to the rivals-to-lovers + forced-proximity tropes, with Emily being chosen as the lead for a Reality Show and the love interest and man who broke her heart as teens being the producer of said TV show. As you can imagine, this scenario leaves the door open to lots of banter, jealousy and cute tension between the two.
Their journey back to each other overcoming their own fears and insecurities is truly beautiful. (view spoiler)
Why isn't this a 4/5 star read to me, then?
One simple reason: on occasions, I found the use of metaphors and analogies to be excessive. Not because they weren't evocative or suggestive, but because I believe the message could come across by using way simpler phrasing and not that much fioriture.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good metaphor and they can be a turning point in defining the author's style. But when you abuse the use of it, it defeats the purpose and the final result can be somewhat tiresome.
Again, this is only personal preference and I'm sure there are tons of readers out there who enjoy it, but to me, I found myself skimming some of those sections that felt a bit too extra (which only happened about 4 or 5 times in total, which isn't all that bad.)
Once again, congrats to Kay Marie!
I can't wait to read the 2nd book.
Wow, what a fun second chance romance this was! Great characters, great banter and a fun premise. Emily and Jake have chemistry that jumps off the page, and the flashbacks between the characters really helped to ground the story.
Forced proximity is always a good choice when it comes to romance, so this aspect was also a win in my opinion. I'm thrilled that this is the beginning of a series and I can't wait to read Sam's story in the future!
After Emily’s mom sets her up on live television to be the lead of the new season of The Love Match, she is forced to work with her high school love who also happens to be the producer of the show. Jake broke her heart 7 years ago and now she must decide does she get revenge or does she let Jake wiggle his way back into her heart after all those years of what ifs?
“You were the sun, Em. You made everything you touched brighter, better, more alive”
This book was really good. if you are a fan of the bachelorette or second chance romances I highly recommend. The chemistry Emily and Jake have is amazing and made me hate literally any other scene that Emily and another guy had to interact, I had no interest entertaining it. I was so frustrated anytime there was a miscommunication or obstacle as to why they couldn’t be together, it made me want to throw my kindle more times than I care to admit. So with that being said, if you hate miscommunication as much as I do, tread lightly. The character development and flash backs into their past had me in all the feels, overall I loved these characters. I am definitely looking forward to the next book Kay Marie has lined up.
Thank you NetGalley and Kay Marie for providing me a copy of The Love Rematch for an honest review.
* The Bachelorette chooses the man behind the camera as her leading man? Yes please
* A tv show setting with a mix of a second chance grovel, this book really did do it for me. Emily is looking for revenge, and Jake? Well he’s just signed up for helping his ex-girlfriend find the love of her life.
* My verdict: I loved it! The premise was unique for a book and it worked out well.
* The book was really good, I loved the characters, the theme - finding [love] on a dating show
* In the book we see a lot of flashbacks to Jake and Emily’s first run which makes you understand the characters a lot more. What I will say is that this didn’t ‘excuse’ Jake’s behaviour. The boy definitely has some red flags about him, even when he’s a grown man but you can see his priorities change and for that it was a realistic grovel.
* Jake and Emily are great together and it didn’t take me long to fall in love with them myself. There’s small little reminders of their past relationship that draw Emily back in and it’s great to see them develop and understand their character attributes that make them do the things they do.
* I loved the tension, I’m a big fan of seeing a man jealous (personal problems? maybe) and the drawling between them was what I loved. It wasn’t too rushed, there were moments where each of them nearly gives in and doesn’t and there’s a whole lot of me screaming at Jake and Emily to get it together! But those are the books I love the most, the ones where I’m rooting for the couple to get together, the ones where I’ll think “one more chapter” and it ends up being 4am (which is fact).
* Writing style : not too cliche, it was all in third person which I surprisingly loved but I didn’t understand why each chapter was named Jake or Emily if this was the case. Despite being in third person, we still got to saw what each protagonist was thinking and feeling throughout so it didn’t feel too distant from the characters personal thoughts.
* The final plot twist? A heart puller, it yanked ok my heart strings so hard but I was thankful that every avenue opened was explained and answered.
* This was my first read from this author, and this book has convinced me to give her other books a shot.
* I will love when Sam’s book comes out, I’m very excited to see her story play out having seen her bold personality in this book - a very tentative reader.
* A recommended read!
We follow Emily, whose heart was broken years ago when Jake left her without a reason, becoming the lead in basically The Bachelorette. At the same time, Jake is part of the production team, which obviously causes some drama.
The plot was promising, I enjoyed the dual POV and them having to work together/Emily trying to get revenge, but ultimately it's very forgettable. Most of the reality tv plotline at first was fun but it was pretty irrelevant at the end of the day since I don't remember a single contestant other than the only character that was remotely interesting other than them: Cooper. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty bored with it by halfway. I was still enjoying it but not as much as I had expected to.
The twists at the end (there were two), were not my fave. The first one was obvious (to me) and the second one, which I did not see coming, was unnecessary in my view.
The romance was cute, however, it was very frustrating to constantly have Jake reel Emily in and then go back to "No, I'm not enough." I really don't like miscommunication, which is the entirety of this book.
Overall, a cute romance and I might be willing to read book 2.
"The Love Rematch" is a contemporary romance written by Kay Marie.
The story follows Emily Peters, a quiet person who spends her days working at her mother's flower shop and her nights working busy on her jewelry startup business. She has no time to devote to relationships, and is happy that way. Until she wakes up one morning to find her mother on national TV practically begging America to find her a boyfriend. When the clip goes viral, Emily is swept away into a Hollywood dream, set up to become the new lead on the hit dating show, The Love Match, designed to find her a boyfriend. But it all turns into a nightmare when she arrives on set and comes face to face with Jake, the man who broke her heart seven years ago, and now her new producer. She is hellbent on revenge. He is determined to secure a promotion. But the more they face off behind the scenes, the harder it becomes to deny their attraction and ignore the secrets of their past.
I loved this romance so much! I found it to be a fun, sizzling, and sweet read that made me laugh and move a lot. Only one element didn't quite convince me, but that is simply a matter of my personal taste, which doesn't affect my overall high appreciation.
I liked the writing a lot! I found it captivating, effervescent and light-hearted, with extremely brilliant dialogues and pleasant descriptions. The fast and compelling pace, combined with the presence of short chapters, pushed me to devour it in a single day, making me unable to tear myself away from the pages. The only "criticism" I can make about it, if one can speak of criticism, is the third-person narration. Unfortunately, in romance, I often dislike the use of the third person. I don't know, it makes it hard for me to bond with the characters and empathize with them, giving me a feeling of detachment. However, I confess that in this book I felt this struggle less, being able to become attached to the story and the characters. As I mentioned earlier, this is my personal preference, which, however, does not lower my great appreciation!
The plot flows quickly and briskly, without moments of boredom or excessive haste. It takes its time in analyzing the various elements, leaving nothing to chance, with an ending that I found satisfying. The book alternates between more cheerful and funny moments and more serious and intense ones, also dealing with important issues. I did not expect this, and this left me pleasantly surprised. That is, I thought I was going to have fun and giggle, but instead I found myself moved on several occasions. And yes, at some moments I cried. However, below, at the end of the review, I leave the TWs. Going back to the events narrated, I absolutely loved the "The Bachelor"-style dating reality show! The hilarious scenes that came out of it made me roll with laughs! In my opinion, the author did a great job of alternating more lighthearted moments with more emotional ones, deftly interweaving them together.
I loved Emily and Jake, the two main protagonists with their third-person povs! Emily is a quiet person who spends her days between her mother's shop and her nights busy with her startup jewelry business. Involved with two different jobs, eager to become completely independent and be able to start her own activity for good, she has no time for romantic relationships. She is happy that way; she doesn't need anything else. Or at least that's what she keeps telling herself. Emily is a cheerful and humorous person, selfless and sensitive, ready to give all of herself for those she cares about. Shy and introverted, she does not wish to attract people's attention. A big fan of jewelry, she loves to create her own collections and hopes to increase her sales. Emily is someone who has really been through a lot. She doesn't want to worry anyone, but under her smiling facade hides a soul marked by deep fears, doubts, uncertainties and pain. I became very fond of her and on more than one occasion I would have liked to hug her!
Jake, on the other hand, is one of the producers of the hit dating reality show "The Love Match." Determined, proud, wry and with an ever-ready retort, he is a man focused on his work. Outwardly reserved, he actually hides a sensitive soul deeply scarred. Jake is marked by a turbulent past that has left him shaken and that affects his attitude and relationships. He is constantly consumed by fears, doubts, remorse and guilt, which often threaten to overwhelm him and destroy the facade he has prudently built. He is a complex, tormented character, struggling with himself, to whom I really connected. I was moved by him and even shed a tear on more than one occasion.
The romance between Emily and Jake was beautiful for me! Sizzling and at the same time sweet, it hooked me right away. Their relationship is sort of friends to lovers to strangers to lovers, which is kind of the opposite of my preferences. Yes, I love enemies to lovers, though, in this case I was quite convinced by it. I found it handled very well, with lots of glimpses into their past that won me over and made me melt from the sweetness. I ached for them, for the many problems they have to face, and of course I cheered wildly. I liked the second chance too much, sprinkled with that hint of angst that frustrated me and at the same time made me a happy jello. I found it all beautiful!
The secondary characters convinced me a lot. Especially the two who will be the main characters in the next volume. I can't wait, I'm so curious!
All in all, I found it a fun, sizzling, and sweet romance that I recommend to lovers of the genre!

Emily lives quite a lonely life, content with her jewellery making. So throw in a nosy, and frankly embarrassing, mother and her life is turned completely upside down. I really liked Emily as a character. Her POV was interesting to read from and incredibly engaging. I loved her interactions with her twin sister and then also how she reacted to the guys on the show. I genuinely don’t think there is anything I would change about her character. She felt real, she felt relatable and to be honest, who wouldn’t want a few people fawning over you in the hopes you’ll find love?
Jake is a more complex character but no less interesting to read about. His POV is more stoic than Emily’s - but also sometimes more fraught with emotion. I really appreciated that whilst he had a hard exterior for everyone, he’s all warm and soft on the inside. He hasn’t changed over the years and still feels a pull to Emily - shown clearly in his actions towards her. We got to see a fair amount of his background as well so we understood what makes him tick. Overall, a very solid character and a person I wouldn’t mind having in my corner!
I’m not one for reality tv shows but this book caught my eye when The Hating Game was used as one of its comps - I loved that book! So, I had to give it a go. And boy am I glad I did! The plot was fantastic. We got a behind the scenes look at what reality shows can be like whilst also getting to see the cast’s side of things. It flowed brilliantly and I was enthralled every time I picked up the book to read it! The characters felt very well fleshed out and always interesting. I don’t think there was a dull character at any point in the story - especially when it came to the men vying for Emily’s hand. The romance was swoon worthy and I absolutely loved the underlying angst throughout. I love me a happy ending but it’s even better when it’s earned. The ending of the story felt pretty perfect for me. I have no unanswered questions and it’s all pretty good. Apparently there is a sequel already planned which focuses on Emily’s sister, Sam. Sign me up to read that!
Overall, The Love Rematch is a fantastic romance that shows love is worth it.

What a fun little book. Overall I would give it a 2.5/5
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an ARC for this one : all thoughts and opinions are my own.
At the beginning of the story we meet Emily, a millenbial (she clearly is even though it is not mentioned in the book), who is a jewelry designer and sells her creation on Etsy. She has a twin sister, Samantha, and two loving parents. Although, her mother might be a little too much and starts a big scandal on live television which ends up being highly profitable for Emily even if she has to survive the major embarrassment. One thing leads to another, and Emily, a perfectly normal girl, finds herself the big star of a reality TV show : The Love Rematch (aka the bachelorette if she was picked at random and not for her money). However, big surprise, her ex high school sweetheart who cruelly left her (we don't know why) is one of the directors on the show...
To be honest, I am not a fan of the bachelorette or bachelor by any means, but I thought the premise of this book could be interesting because I do enjoy my fare share of romance. The book started really strong and was really easy to read and enjoyable. I wanted to know more, and I thought the second chance romance was good because of all the tension the characters had together. I saw the author calling this an enemies to lovers and I could not disagree more. Yes, there is the notion of vengeance but it only last for a short amount of time. Up until 45-60% I was into it. Unfortunately, after this point, it quickly became way too much ooey-gooey for me. The intense pinning after each other paired with the miscommunication that went threw me off. I wanted more... Also, I think the plot twists near the end (2 major, 1 kinda make sense while the other did not) came out of the blue and were really farfetched in this story line. I feel like the author wanted to add a punch and went with the first one she could grab. It is sad because the ending really tanked the book for me. However, I do believe that some people are really going to like this. If you are a fan of the bachelorette, second chance romance and secrets, this book is for you.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of The Love Rematch.
This was cute. Nothing life changing, but it was a fun read. Honestly the first half of this book was the weakest part of the story. The last half turned into an angsty emily henry book and I was really vibing with it. The characters were a bit 2 dimensional. I literally couldn't care less about any of the supporting characters. They were just background noise. But I read this book in one sitting so I clearly didn't mind it too much.
When Emily unexpectedly finds herself as the next lead on "The Love Match," she is shocked to recognize one of the producers -Jake - her high school sweet heart ex who left her without an explanation seven years ago. The two must navigate the world of reality television while also figuring out if there is still hope for their relationship they thought would last forever.
This was a great second chance romance story! I loved learning about the layers of Emily and Jake's past as the story unfolded. The premise of the reality tv show was a carbon copy of The Bachelor, but I didn't mind. It made for fun and easy reading for those aspects of the novel, and the love story really took the forefront for the last third of the book. I'm excited to pick up the next in the series!
3.5⭐️ The first chapter in this book got all my attention I had a feeling that it was going to be a really good book. The story had all the potential. The first half of the book did delivered. We had the girl main character entering a competition to find a husband in a dating show where her ex was working on and who had abandoned her without a word. The tension was there, it was funny which I like a lot. I also like the dual POV which gave a chance to know more about the MMC and see that even though he seem like an ass sometimes he was suffering inside.
BUT something happened in the middle of the book and things started to dragged, much of the inner dialogues became very repetitive there was too much filler. And at the end the secret that the MFC keeping from the guy to me felt that it was just unnecessary to the story I know that there always had to be some kind of shocking reveal but that felt that it was pull out of nowhere.

🫧my thoughts: this book was a second-chance romance with such a fun setting! if you love the bachelor or any similar reality tv shows then this is the book for you.
i had so much fun reading this and loved all the characters. the chemistry between emily & jake is apparent and the tension was high throughout the book! watching them work through all that had happened between them while in a situation where they have to pretend to be strangers is so interesting.
sometimes when it would switch to past-tense in the middle of a chapter i would get a little confused and have to reread to reorient myself. i did love the dual pov and getting to see each mc’s perspective of everything that happened and is going on now.
if you want a fun second-chance romance that will make you swoon, the love rematch comes out october 16, 2023!!
