Wow, what an AMAZING read, The Love Rematch is a witty, faced past, second chance romance novel that has you hooked from the first line. ( and dual POV!) Thank you so much net galley for my arc !!
I was pleasantly surprised by the way this book charmed me. From the beginning, I was captured by the dynamic between the two leads and how their shared history unfolded into a sweet, nuanced tale of lost love.
Thanks to Netgalley, Kaitlyn Davis and the author for providing me a free eARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Another 5 star deserving book after so many days. The book had me from the very first page to the last one.
- Every character was awesome, specially Emily (FMC), I loved her. Jake (MMC) seemed a little idiotic at first but I liked him anyway. Sam and Cooper was my favorite among the side-characters.
- Loved the twists, both in present and past.
- Length of the book is perfect for me.
- The writing was so smooth. Not too slow, not too rush. Not too long, not too short. Loved it.
- It's a perfect combination of funny and emotional.
- Ending was predictable but enjoyable. Though I was waiting for the scene where Emily tells Jake the truth about that dream suite night with Cooper 😂
Overall, I really really enjoyed the read. Eagerly waiting for book 2.
This book had me from the get go, like who doesn’t want a book that’s similar to The Bachelor?! I live for books with drama & this book brought it! It was like a soap opera for readers and I loved it. I finished this book in one day because I had to find out what happened!
I loved the chemistry and the tension between Jake and Em & the SLOW BURN! It was chef’s kiss! I’m so bummed I have to wait for the next book, because I cannot wait for that story!
The only thing I wasn’t a fan of in this book was that it’s in third point of view.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!
one of my favorite NetGallery reads EVER! it had literally everything I was looking for and I would 100% recommend. I am a bigggg fan of trashy reality tv shows, and the fact that the FMC was the lead in a show, and MMC was a producer… just *chef’s kiss* because what better way to get back at your ex boyfriend for breaking your heart than to force him to watch you move on to 30 other guys?!
there were so many good twists and turns that I seriously didn’t see coming and I was EATING IT UP! seriously gave me both the giggles and the warm & fuzzies. just an amazing book in every way! I CANNOT WAIT for the second one to come out!!!! eeek!
This book had me from page 1. There was so much anticipation and tension right from the start. She delivered at the right moments to lightly break that tension. Then got right back at it with even more tension, until it finally broke and it was everything! Loved both the characters and it's a YA romance that didn't get a chance to have the right ending that followed them 7 years later to the perfect ending.
All in all I’m pretty unenthused by this book. Jake and Emily fall into typical “obsessed caveman” and “fierce girlboss !!! ” archetypes which is so overdone and unexciting. Emily feels like a constant contradiction, nothing about her character feels fleshed out and solid, nor do I feel like the reader is given the opportunity to know her. One minute she’s a quiet, demur doe, the next she’s got a monologue and a snappy comeback. It feels less like a layered, complex woman and more like the author can’t decide what type of woman Emily is, so she morphs to fit the mood.
Exes to lovers is pretty tough to pull off convincingly, and I was not convinced by this dynamic. I was constantly frustrated by Jake’s obsession with the woman he abandoned 7 years ago, and desperate for a single conversation to remotely address why he would abandon her. Withholding adult conversation for the sake of plot is lazy and irks me to no end.
The pacing of the story feels fairly clunky, and the flashbacks are poorly timed and often interrupt important moments in the present story. They kill any building tension and make me want to skip over them.
All in all it’s a pretty generic, cookie cutter hallmark romance that I found unexciting and without any true depth. I would give this book 2 stars for being ~fine~, but then I remember the Mexican character is named “Margarita” and I have to take an entire star off for that alone.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc
I am not a watcher of dating shows, though I've seen enough from social media to know how the popular ones worked. I went in to this novel with a certain level of expectation as to hoe the storyline would pan out and, I was very sadly wrong.
I felt like I knew nothing important about Jake and Emily's relationship by the end, just a lot of waffle with the show as a poor filler in-between times. I was actually really bothered by the "twist" at the end because it felt like it came from nowhere, didn't further the plot in any way and then was gone as soon as it was mentioned.
Needless to say, I won't be breaking my dating show watching duck any time soon.
Thank you to netgalley and the author for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I liked Kay Marie's books. Thanks to The Love Rematch, I discovered her previous books and ended up completing the Hot Pursuit series.
Similar to those books, The Love Rematch has an interesting plot, and likeable and humourous characters but the pacing and writing felt a little dragged at some points. Regardless, I would definitely read more from her and am hooked for Sam and Cooper's story.
The Love Rematch was a really fun and easy read. I enjoyed it far more than I was originally thought I would. I think it would be the perfect quick read for summer.
I enjoyed this book! I think you will too if...
1) You love The Bachelor franchise shows. It's truly as if you are reading and watching an entire season play out, that has just never been aired on TV. It's the bonus season you never knew you were missing. Plus, you'll discover you are thinking about certain former contestants seen as other characters in this book. And, you'll catch a lot of popular phrases like "Let's do the damn thing." It's clear as a Bachelor watcher myself, that this author has also spent a LOT of time watching almost every season as I have. (It's a guilty pleasure for sure!)
2) You hate The Bachelor franchise shows, because you think it's all completely fake and unrealistic. This book plays right into that, and shows all the behind-the-scenes that you do not get from the actual show, by involving off-camera conversations between producers and contestants. Bargains for more air-time, faking conversations, redoing scenes and pretending like they are real. It will reaffirm your beliefs that the show is fully scripted and ridiculous. (This would be my husband's stance, which we've had multiple back-and-forths on. Ha.)
Overall, this is a super quick, compelling read that follows one woman as she goes on the show "The Love Rematch" as the lead. Would this be categorized as chick-lit? Probably so, but it was fun and entertaining nonetheless...and I fully plan to read the sequel when it comes out in 2024!
3.5⭐️ I really liked the concept of this book. I personally haven’t read a book about a dating show before so I was really excited to read it. I really liked the story! I loved Emily!! Couldn’t really connect with Jake but he was just a little stupid in my opinion🫣 I should also mention that the book isn’t written in the first pov which is always something I struggle with!! I did love the dual pov though☺️

“He’ll never be her hero. But that doesn’t mean he has to stay her villain.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I could not put this book down! Think, the bachelorette meets second chance romance and that’s what The Love Rematch is!
Emily hasn’t really dated anyone since her ex broke her heart seven years ago. But after her mum goes on national television and persuades the producers of the Love Match to make Em their new reality tv lead, it’s down to Emily to find her future husband in front of millions.
The only catch? Her ex happens to be one of the producers on the show. And Jake has his own secrets about why he left all those years ago. As the pair begin to fall for each other once more, you can’t help but love how chaotic and messy the book is!
Emily is the perfect main character, she’s been through so much and you can’t help but want her to get her happy ending.
Thank you Netgalley and Kay Marie for granting me an advanced reader copy of The Love Rematch in return for an honest review.
This book comes out on the 16th October and honestly it’s one you shouldn’t miss! I can’t wait to read more about Sam and Coopers romance in the sequel!
The Love Rematch was a really heartwarming and fun read about second chances in love.
Emily becomes the new lead in a reality tv show, The Love Match, and discovers her ex boyfriend Jake, the man that broke he heart seven years ago is one of the main producers and heavily involved in the show. Jake is responsible for arranging the dates with Emily and her many suitors and things get a little exciting when Emily realises Jake is harbouring feelings of jealousy!
I really enjoyed the twists in the plot, they were so unexpected. Kay writes so well and I loved how she initially made me dislike one of the characters, only to swiftly change my perception of them. I also really enjoyed reading both Jake and Emily’s perspectives!
Thanks NetGalley for providing me with this digital arc!
I am so grateful to Netgalley and the Publishers for providing me with the e-arc of this amazing romance novel.
I absolutely loved the characters and can't wait to dive into more of the author's works in the future.
I really wanted to love this, but sadly it was not for me!
I really didn't vibe with the writing style. First of all, it's third-person, which I always find to be an awkward choice for romance. I think a first-person narrative is so much better when it comes to this genre. I just feel like we get to know the characters so much better that way! I also felt like the flashbacks were a bit clunky, and maybe the story would have worked better as a dual timeline situation? Also, I felt like there was a lot of telling and not enough showing.
Another issue I had with the book was the characters. They just felt so bland and boring. I also feel like we really didn't get to know the characters that well. Like, I feel that their personalities were not coming through at all in their perspectives, and we only really got to know the character through the other character's POV. (Like we got to know Emily through Jake's eyes, but I didn't feel like her personality came through in her own perspective).
I expected a more light-hearted, fun read based on the synopsis, but it was definitely a lot more emotional, so if you're looking for a romance with heavier themes, check it out.
I've become kind of obsessed with rom-coms that take place in a reality show, especially those with Bachelor-like premises, and The Love Rematch is a great addition to this mini-genre. I liked the alternating viewpoints a lot, which hasn't been as present in most of the other ones I've read, and I also liked the twist regarding their past (which I did not see coming).
this was okay, but read a little juvenile and i didn't feel connected to the characters or what happens to them at all. i can see other reader enjoying this a lot tho!
— thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the free digital ARC.
Very easy and fun to read! It felt very reminiscent of The True Love Experiment, but still had its own beauty to it. This was such a light, fun read. I truly love a good second chance romance and Kay Marie didn’t disappoint! The chemistry between Emily and Jake was perfect.
