If you watch The Bachelor reality tv series then you'll love this romance book, but if you don't watch the series then you will also love the book. I must admit that I am not a fan of the tv series, but I am wholeheartedly a fan of this book! I laughed out loud, sniffled a bit, cheered our leading lady on and jeered at a few of the men in the book. Seriously, the men earned the jeering! At the base of the story is a theme of miscommunication or lack of communication which leads to many years of misunderstanding and heartbreak, but our two main characters are given a second chance at starting over fresh, but the question is will they choose to start over together or separately. It is a delightfully written and entertaining story of love lost and future love that had me turning pages as quickly as I could devour them so I could see what would happen next. I am delighted to say that it appears that this will be the first book in the series and the second should be just as entertaining as an unlikely couple will be taking center stage and I am so in line for that book! I can't wait! Is it rude to hope the author writes fast!?!
Rounded up from 3.5
Em is the new lead of a hit dating show. Jake is the producer. They were in love 7 years ago, but they are both still trying to move on. Em is working too hard and has no time for romance, but when her mother very publicly proposed her for this dating show, she was trending within the minute and simply couldn't refuse...
This is a Bachelor-inspired, forced proximity, second chance, reality television, revenge, working with an ex romantic comedy. It's told in dual POV in the third person.
I was not a fan of the meddling mom trope. I was also not a fan of all of the miscommunication. All that was needed of them was for them to sit down and have an honest (albeit hard) conversation and everything would've been dandy. However, the book would've been about about 100 pages long... It's been over with Jake for 7 years, and yet, even before she sees him again, everything is always about him, and I find that a bit annoying. I mean, move on already... It's like her entire life has been on pause for 7 years (maybe so that it would be easier for the author to push them back together). I'm usually a sucker for second chance romance, but I don't think this one was particularly well presented. I didn't feel the tension, the longing or the angst, she only came across as desperate. And the flashbacks not very well indicated. On the plus side, the premise was super interesting, I loved the drama that Sam brought to the table and would love to read her story in book 2. I loved that the story touched on deeper subjects, even if one of them is one that makes me want to roll my eyes real hard. It was fun to see behind the scenes of the reality TV show.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
They had me at “Love and Other Words meets The Hating Game in this Bachelor-inspired romantic comedy”
The Love Rematch is book one in The Love Match series by Kay Marie.
This was such an amazing book! An absolute page turner!
Emily and Jake were just the absolute best!
The characters were great. The reader really gets a sense of their motivations and their lives. They were very relatable and were written very realistically.
With its witty and entertaining narrative, this novel strikes a perfect balance between fun and realism, offering readers an exceptional form of escapism at its finest.
An incredibly written second chance rom-com. With an exciting setting of reality television, revenge and working with the ex.
I can’t wait for book two! Definitely getting 5 ✨
I would like to thank NetGalley and Kaitlyn Davis for the opportunity to read this ahead of its publication date in return for my honest review.
Second chance romance with a Bachelorette backdrop, sign me up! This was a sweet and heartfelt slow burn. I'm not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope, but I believe it was well done here.
Emily is super relatable and authentic. She's often vulnerable, yet strong for putting herself out there on reality TV and in front of her ex. Jake's a bit of a mess trying to prove himself in his career. He's honestly not my favorite MMC, seems cowardly how he handles their reunion, so the torment he goes through watching Emily date 30 men for a TV show is a perfect punishment for his actions.
I liked seeing how they grow up separately and how much of an influence they each had on the other despite the distance and time.
Cute take on the bachelorette! Sam is such a great side character. Very good writing, I think the plot could’ve done a bit more. 4 star read and my first by this author
I started this book a bit sceptical. I'm not usually someone who enjoys watching dating shows or someone who's a big fan of second-chance romances, yet that's what this entire book is centered around! But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Even though I sometimes wanted to strangle the love interest(s).
Emily is a sensible, introverted jewelry designer who has been single for quite some time. When her mother takes matters into her own hands and declares on PUBLIC TELEVISION that her daughter is still on the market, Emily is contacted by TV-show The Love Rematch. She agrees to go on, even if it is to challenge herself and put her own business on the market. But can she survive meeting and dating with 30 men while followed by a bunch of camera's and, maybe even worse, her ex?
I quite liked Emily as a character, because she hit close to home. Am I an aspiring jewelry designer? No, but I can relate to wanting to stay at home to do my own thing and being absolutely mortified if my mother would out me as chronically single on public television. During the entire show, Emily is a bit hesitant around all the men she's meeting, and WHO CAN BLAME HER??? You're meeting with 30 men, 20 of which you're kicking off the show within the first week of filming.
Jake I couldn't really get on board with. Sure, he's the ex and he's really portrayed that way, but honestly, so many of his issues and problems with Emily could've been solved if they just had an honest conversation. I know his storyline is one with family issues, but still. There is nothing more that can irritate me in a book than a miscommunication trope.
Having said that, the writing style and the sheer unbelievability of the tv-shop concept (I mean, flying people around the world for a few dates, how cool and insane is that?!) made up for so much of the miscommunication. I was even rooting for some of the contestants of the TV-show to win Emily's hand! I love how Kay Marie set up the sequel as well, because I'd love to get my hands on that very soon. I need me some more Cooper in my life!
I would absolutely recommend this book if you enjoy watching shows like the Bachelor/Bachelorette, enjoy second-chance romances and a smidge of spice.
**4.5 stars**
This was such a fun read. A slow burn second chance romance filled with angst, tension and chemistry.
I loved the setup of the story how our FMC must date a bunch of guys right in front of her jealous ex whose job as a producer is to help those guys woo the girl he has never fully gotten over. The stolen glances across the room and the little gestures from Jake along the way start to break down Emily's walls.
Both of our leads have past traumas and we learn more as the story progresses with some big reveals and flashbacks and we come to know why they split all those years ago.
A couple of the situations made for the reality TV are a bit far fetched (naked bungee jumping!?) but the story is believable and the dual POV gives the reader that extra insight.
I thought Sam was hilarious and such a badass and I can't wait for her book to come out.
I loved this book and would highly recommend it!
This book… was a roller coaster to say the least.
I had a few issues with some of the scenes in the story; At times, the book felt confusing due to the flashbacks, like there was no warning at all, One minute your reading about the present then the next your reading about the past.
But I was very easily able to suspend my confusion and continue to enjoy the story that was being told.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was an easy read! I am glad that I didn’t let a few of the scenarios get to me because it was definitely worth the read!
Tropes: Second chance romance, reality show producer mmc/jewelry designer & contestant fmc, workplace romance, forced proximity
This may be my new favorite second chance romance. This was a dual POV romance that takes place in a bachelorette type show where the FMC is the “bachelorette” and the MMC is one of the producers on the show. It was so much fun to be behind the scenes of a reality dating show, especially when the female lead is still in love with her ex-boyfriend who is a producer on the show. And the MMC is not just any producer on the show but the one responsible for the male contestants trying to woo his ex-girlfriend who the MMC is still very much in love with. The amount of longing and tension between the main characters was truly amazing.
There were so many parts of this book that I really loved. But I really enjoyed how the original relationship between the two main characters was shown to the reader through memories that the POV character was remembering while the main plot was occurring. I liked how it allowed me to understand what happened between the two main characters in the past but in a way that didn’t rip me out of the story I was reading. Another thing I really enjoyed was how much sense the things keeping the two characters apart made for the story and the characters. The original breakup felt like something that the teenage MMC would do and the reasons why they couldn’t immediately get back together also made sense.
The side characters were also amazing and I cannot wait to read Sam and Cooper’s story next!
I was very worried when I began reading that this book would be compared to The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren, but I sighed in relief when I realized the plot was distinct enough to not earn the comparison. I really enjoyed the beginning and how everything came to be and the ending with how things were resolved. The middle had its up and downs for me, whether the flashbacks were completely necessary and taking over the main plot, some of the twists I'm also unsure if necessary and I wanted more time with Emily and Jake. BTS of the Bachelorette type show was fun, but the secondary characters (aka men vying for Emily's love) were not used fully to their potential. Still, it was an enjoyable read and if the author piques your interest to want to read the next book in the series - I totally plan to read Sam's story - then obviously they are doing something right.
I loved this book!! The story progressed wonderfully and I am a big fan of the bachelor aspects in this. Jake and Emily are one of my favorite book couples. I really liked this and can’t wait for the next one!!
Such a fun story, I have to say this book was a fun time to read and I highly recommend if you are a fan of second chance romances, it's well worth the read!
This was a solid debut with a fun premise! I loved all the behind the scenes on a reality dating show moments but what I wasn't a huge fan of were some of the unrealistic situations (naked bungee jumping?!?) AND just how much miscommunication played a huge role keeping the MCs apart. My biggest pet peeve is when a simple conversation/explanation could resolve unnecessary conflict. Other than that I did enjoy this one and would read more by the author in future. Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Really enjoyed this novel! I am always wary of second chance romance but this was done right. There were definitely a lot of tears and the dual POV just added to the emotions and connection we feel for the main characters. I also loved that the female lead character was a badass and did not take shit.
She actively stood up for herself which I was very thankful for.
I also enjoyed the side characters, Sam & Cooper. Can't wait for the sequel!
Emotional, Addictive, and Super Good.
The Love Rematch
A Romance Story out on Oct 16
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2 Ex-lovers who loved each other more than anything are reunited on a set of a reality dating show Where he is the field producer (Jake) responsible for 30 men who are fighting on national TV to win the love of the lead woman (Emily) his ex.
Jake & Emily haven't seen each other for 7 years since the night he left her and she never heard from him again. Now, together on the same show, Emily is angry with revenge and Jake is brewing with Jealousy.
Will Emily end up engaged to another man at the end of the show? Or will this be a second chance for both of them?
Hands down one of the best books I've read this year.
It is a second-chance romance full of angst, longing, tension, fire, and sexual desire. Written in Dual POVs which makes it awesome and it is full of twists and turns and so many surprises that captivate you from start to finish.
It shines a light on the secrets and the world of reality TV and how everything is not what it appears so if you are a fan of this kind of show you will devour this gem of a book.
Emily&Jake were perfect I loved both so much especially Jake is a cinnamon roll hero that I will die for ❤️🔥❤️.
That being said PLEASE PRE-ORDER AND READ THIS BOOK AND DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR THE AUTHOR NEWSLETTER THERE IS AN AMAZING BONUS SCENE THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS 😌😱😉.
Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC of #TheLoveRematch in exchange for my honest review.
Xoxo 💋
I don't have a lot to say about this book. The romance in this book to me felt like it lived in the flashbacks. You constantly get flashbacks to when they were in high school and in love. There is like graphic violence/abuse and I thought eh "plot twist" at the end was just thrown in there for the drama aspect and I didn't like it.
I am giving it two stars cause the gimmicky things that have to do with the dating show she's in were funny or fun, but overall I don't recommend.
Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you Netgalley and Kay Marie, for the e-arc. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. I just felt like maybe the way it was written wasn’t for me? I felt like the FMC & MMC didn’t have enough interactions for me…. a lot of flashbacks, but not a lot of current timeline interactions. I found myself skimming this one a lot, and was only “hooked” the last 20% or so of the book.
It was a good book, however it had some issues to me:
- being written in 3rd person, its not something i personally enjoy
- the way the flashbacks are put in the story, you can hardly tell where they are, and most of the time you only realize you were reading a flashback
-the character development happening at 95% of the book!!! I should get to know my characters earlier so i can create an emotional attachment to them.
Overall, i did like the concept of the story and i will read the second one, but i was a little disappointed.
I loved this book so much I could not put it down! It was such a fun read that had me both laughing and crying. I love tension in books and this book delivered. This had the perfect amount of pining, jealousy and groveling.
This book has a dual POV so I found we get to learn a lot about and get to know the main characters Emily and Jake very well. Even though this story isn’t a dual timeline, there are many times one of them would have a flashback so I really appreciated getting to see their previous relationship from that perspective. They both had gone through so much trauma (and growth) I couldn’t help but to root for them to be together!
I really enjoyed the side characters as well, especially Emily’s twin sister, Sam, who was always looking out for her. She was also hilarious and I’m so excited to read Sam’s story next!
this was a cute second chance 💌
This is a romantic book that follows Emily Peters, a woman busy with her jewelry business and her mother’s flower shop. Her life takes a turn when she becomes the protagonist of a dating show (thanks to her mother) to find her a boyfriend, produced by Jake, her old love who broke her heart. Despite the tensions and problems from the past, a spark arises between them.
The story is a balance between joyful and serious moments. I really liked the second chance here and that’s rare to say because I’m not a big fan of this trope.
It was a good story to read, entertaining and with charming characters.
Thanks to Kaitlyn Davis and NetGalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review 🫶🏻
