Thank you Amber Cortes Publicist -- Macmillan Audio for offering me (widget) the opportunity to audibly read and review Night Will Find You on NetGalley.
Narrator: Karissa Vacker
Stars: 2.5
Karissa Vacker's performance was exactly what I hope for with every audiobook I pickup. She kept me going when I wanted to quit.
The psychic portion of the story I found to be interesting. It wasn't cheesy, nor was it over the top. Heaberlin wrote this really well, working this element into a realistic mystery.
I have several problems: The first really irks me. This book is being developed into a television series and I spent too much time wondering how the negotiations went and did Heaberlin champion for the profanity? Did she insist that G-D be incorporated? The swearing was inexcusable and cheapened the story. Why G-D and not damn? There has to be a reason. It was not cultural or necessary at all.
Next, the mystery portion of the story moved well. However, the dating both sisters and marrying the second and not the one he loved trope is antiquated. And, extended the book unnecessarily. Again, Vacker scored the win. She kept me going.
Sadly 2.5 stars is generous. Heaberlin had a 4 star book and threw it away.
This one kept me on the edge of my seat and listening! If you like mystery/thriller/suspense this one is for you. Vivvy Bouchet (love that name) saved a boy when she was 10 years old and now he is a police detective and enlists her help. She is an astrophysicist and when she is roped into helping find a kidnapped young girl by the same man who she saved as a boy she reluctantly helps. When a podcaster gets wind she is helping, all bets are off and he spins all sorts of conspiracy theories. Hang on to your seats because this one is a great read/listen.
Karissa Vacker always delivers excellent, engaging narration, as she does in Night Will Find You. Heaberlin has a well-developed plot, intriguing mystery, and a captivating cast of characters. This book is a winner for suspense and mystery fans.
Thank you to Net Galley and Macmillan Audio for the advance listener's copy. My review is my own.
Vivvy Bouchet, an astrophysicist with special psychic gifts, returns home to Fort Worth for her mother's funeral. She inadvertently is drawn into a high profile case of a little girl who disappeared in broad daylight from her own home nearly a decade ago. This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat with twists and dark turns abound. I really enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book, narrated by the always excellent Karissa Vacker.
This book was an interesting mix of science and paranormal. Our protagonist is an astro-physicist but also a psychic as well. She is able to see what happened to people, just by touching personal items that they had when alive. The story moved along well, and it did have some surprises that kept me guessing.
I listened to the audio version of this book, and as always, LOVED this narrator (to be honest, it was the reason that I chose this book.) The narrator really makes the book, and I would highly recommend that part of this book to anyone!
3.5 stars
I find it challenging to put my thoughts into words regarding this book. It most certainly was a different type of thriller. Not unusual in its plot so much but in the way it was written. Although I was taken with the story, which became increasingly intriguing as it progressed, I found the writing to be hit and miss. Sometimes I could fully engage with the characters and events while other times I couldn’t. I would get lost or zone out and have to rewind the audio. I vacillated between three and four stars as a result.
I thought the narrator was able to bring the story to life with her solid performance. Vivvy, the MC, was well carved out and I grew to trust her decision making. Jesse, the cop, on the other hand, seemed two dimensional , stereotypical and predictable. I could see his storyline coming from a mile away. The romance aspect didn’t work for me as a result.
After finishing the book, I re-read the publisher description and was surprised that social media was noted as a big part of the plot. Yes there was a character Baba who had a podcast and made Vivvy’s life difficult, but I guess I didn’t feel or appreciate the significance of this element. He seemed more bothersome than dangerous. Perhaps this element could have been highlighted differently to better relay this angst to the reader.
I will say that I enjoyed the twists and was keen to know how the book would end. It is a mystery thriller that I think many readers will enjoy with a refreshing plot arc that involves a dusting of supernatural. A gracious thank you to #NetGalley and #MacMillanAudio for an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for the audio advance reader copy of this book. I loved other Julia Heaberlin books so much so was excited to listen to this one. I was a little disappointed, not in the narration as that was excellent, but in the story. The beginning of the book was long and drawn out. Some readers may give up before the story gets going. The end was great, but the slow beginning caused me to dread finishing this one.
Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin is a fast paced thriller about a scientist with paranormal abilities. Vivvy Boucher left her small town on purpose to escape the looks and judgement of the town. Vivvy has to return home after the death of her mother and the request of her friend, cop and brother-in-law Mike. Vivvy has been asked to help solve a cold case of a three-year-old girl. Enter Jessie Sharp, lead detective and skeptic of mediums.
This story was really well-told and kept me guessing. The audiobook narrator kept the story moving and was engaging. I haven’t read a psychological thriller quite like this before and would definitely like to read another. There are definitely some plot twists and turns that will keep you guessing.
I've got to give it to the narrator, she did an amazing job keeping me intrigued even throughout the parts I felt slowed down. Characters with psychic abilities don't always work for me, but I was pleasantly surprised with Vivvy. I really enjoyed the plot, character development, and turns this took. It's a perfect fall read. My first Julia Heaberlin and most certainly not my last. I highly recommend the audio!

Wow, Just Wow. I listened to the audio book version of Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin, it was narrated by Karissa Vacker. This unique psychological thriller is where science clashes with the unexplained as our Protagonist Vivvy Bouchet is an astrophysicist with a special psychic gift. This was an intelligent, exquisitely written work that kept me on the edge of my seat with its intensity. Filled to the brim with multifaceted characters, and a compelling narrative that was mind blowing. I highly recommend edge of your seat Thriller.
I began listening to Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin on an evening after sundown when I was home alone, and it instantly put me in the mood for this mystery. I don't like super creepy novels, and this was the perfect amount of 'unsettling' for me.
Vivvy Bouchet is a complex heroine. She's an astrophysicist and she has psychic abilities - an interesting combination of science and intuition. Days after her mother's death, Vivvy is summoned by Fort Worth Police to help solve a high-profile cold case of a young girl who disappeared from her home (think Jean Benet Ramsey). Add a skeptical police detective, a bombastic radio host (ala Rush Limbaugh), a mysterious charm bracelet, and complicated relationships with her sister and brother-in-law, and you've got the ingredients for a very interesting and compelling mystery.
I enjoyed that I never knew which character(s) I could trust, and I definitely didn't anticipate all of the connections between them. Ms. Heaberlin enabled me to feel Vivvy's psychic abilities, which is impressive as I don't usually believe in them. I appreciated the commentary on science, religion, and conspiracy theories spread by social media.
This novel can be enjoyed any time of year, but the strong sense of atmosphere with stormy weather and a decaying house made it perfect for my September/October spooky season reading. This was my first novel by this author, and I'm now interested to check out her backlist.
On Libro.fm I saw a note that this book is being developed as a TV series by Fox. If true, I hope the adaptation honors its excellent source material.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for access to the audiobook expertly narrated by Karissa Vacker.
I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I tend to be a little wary of fake psychic stories, but I liked the way this one was set up. Part of it reminded me of The Child Finder. Not in terms of the plot or anything, but just the overall vibe of the story. I loved the way the author married science and the unexplained together, she did that very effectively because she leaned into the skepticism that so many of us feel but also that desire that we also have to believe in mediums. The pacing of the story was good, but there were a lot of threads to the story so I think it is easy to get lost, but the overall story itself is good, and I have to say, the ending got me. Well done! Also, the audiobook was very well mixed and I liked the narrator a good deal. Would recommend!
I was sifting through my emails and seen I had an email from Mcmillan Audio about this title as I tend to like the narrator. So since I didn't have an audiobook currently going I thought I would give it a shot. And they were right, I do really like the narrator for this book! I also, really liked the book, lol. The story follows a woman who has a natural gift of sight. Or I guess you would also call them psychic abilities. She is trying to help the police solve a cold case. I loved the premise of the story. My only issue is I wish they actually included more of her abilities. It seemed like she didn't use her gift much to help with the cases. It was good old fashion hard work and clues. I was slightly disappointed as I was moat excited about the way she was brought in for these cases.
This book was good, if not a little bit difficult to follow. It follows Vivvy, who helped save a guy's life when she was younger. It's all because she was able to predict what was going to happen and although the book shies away from using the words "psychic" or "medium", that's essentially what we are told to believe Vivvy is. Now, fast forward, and Vivvy is being used to try to solve a high profile crime that the cops are struggling with. I'm not sure on the ethics of this idea, but I digress.
Additionally, there's a big "wow factor" podcaster who is trashing Vivvy to his followers, offering up old conspiracy theories and more. How is Vivvy going to get herself out of this?
I really did enjoy this book and listened to it in one sitting.
Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin was an interesting read based on psychic powers and suspense. There were interesting aspects in this novel and I enjoyed the narrator very much.
A few good twists but I could not get into this book overall and there was a disconnect from the characters for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillian Audio for this copy in exchange for an honest review.
I received this advanced audiobook from Netgalley for my honest review. It was soooo good!
I liked the mysterious gift that Vivvy had inherited from her mother.
She tries to ignore it and settled for a quiet life as a scientist.
So when a case comes up and she is asked to assist with any insight whether a missing girl is alive or dead she is faced with uncovering buried secrets. Images and clues start coming at her. As she tried to navigate what this all means people think she is a fraud.... but some find her a threat.
Highly recommend.!
Loved the details and suspense of this book! I thought it was finished after the main mystery was solved but there was so much more!
Great fall audiobook with psychic powers, mysteries and lots of drama and action! I enjoyed it! 3.75 ⭐️’s!
Night Will Find You is a great mystery. It’s set in Texas and reads like what I imagine a very Texan novel should read like. There are people carrying guns, a loud, popular podcast host stirring up trouble, two police officers, and a scientist who gets visions.
It is a compelling and quick read with a satisfying conclusion.
Vivvy Buche saved a stranger’s life one night because of a vision she saw. That one moment as a child changed the direction of her life forever. Years later, as an adult, she returns to her hometown after the death of her psychic mother. The person she saved, now a detective, asks for her help solving a cold case. There are many mysteries to solve, and Vivvy is a great main character. Her science background, matched with her gifts, makes for a really interesting tale.
I really enjoy Karissa Vacker as a Narrator! This was my second book she’s narrated and it really helps bring the story to life.
Vivvy is both an astrophysicist and has some psychic abilities passed down from her mom. She’s called to help with a cold case of a missing girl Lizzy. Lizzy’s mother has been in prison for murder even though no body was ever found. She’s always been adamant she had nothing to do with her disappearance. Vivvy wants to help and is pulled into dealing with conspiracy theories while trying to think logically and use her gifts.
This one had some good twists! Would recommend this one on audio.
