This year seems to be great for thriller books. Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin was one of the most thrilling reads of the year for me. I went into the audiobook expecting a psychological dark thriller and what I got was much more than that!

Vivvy Bouchet is a scientist with a special gift. When she was ten years old, she saved the life of a boy by making a prediction. This act becomes a defining moment of her life. It is also when she begins her lifelong battle with the voices in her head. Years later, Vivvy is an Astrophysicist on the cusp of an important breakthrough in her field. All she wants is to be left alone with the stars in the Big Bend country of Texas. But nothing goes as she plans or wants.

Vivvy, once again, meets Mike, the boy she saved–now a Fort Worth cop–who requests her help as a psychic in a high-profile case involving a missing three-year-old child, Lizzie Solomon. Although Vivvy never considers herself a psychic or use that word to describe her abilities, she reluctantly agrees to help with the case after accidently touching a bloody pink bow belonging to the missing child and writing “ALIVE” in a note to Mike. The decision to help Mike leads her into the encounter with an imposing cop, Jesse Sharp, who is not only skeptical about her psychic talents, but does not seem to want her presence on his case. When Vivvy abruptly questions Jesse about his connection to a missing girl with a charm bracelet, Jesse reluctantly joins forces with Vivvy to find the truth about Lizzie Solomon and if she’s still alive as Vivvy claimed. This journey challenges Vivvy abilities, forcing her to delve deeper into herself. A confrontation with a supremacist podcaster, Bubba Guns, seems to make things worse for Vivvy as it begins to impact her reputation, and puts her life at risk.

All characters in the book have unique voice, but I must say that Vivvy Bouchet, as the nerdy scientist is my favorite. She was such a joy to read, especially when she spits out scientific facts as a method to distract either herself or others from difficult conversations. The one thing I really loved about this book is how science and the unexplained/paranormal meet to create something that does not clash with one another but blends to create its own version of truth.

Night Will Find You is my first book by Julia Heaberlin, and I am super impressed by the author. I will be adding her other books to my TBR. If you’re a fan of dark, psychological thrillers involving the paranormal, then this book is for you! I give it a full 5/5 stars.

A not-so-psychic meets a cold case and a disbelieving detective with an outcome you won’t see coming.

I enjoyed this new to me author and a unique look at solving a cold case. As a true crime enthusiast myself I was excited to see how this played out and the author didn’t disappoint.

Some twists and turns later and the ending was not wand I was expecting but exactly what I wanted.

I’d recommend to fans of true crime fictionalized and readers who enjoy a little “other worldly” input without it being totally unbelievable.

Note: Some language.

My rating: 4*

Vivvy Bouchet is a brilliant and talented scientist but she is also psychic. When she was young she saved a boy’s life. The boy is now a Fort Worth cop and wants her to use her “psychic” abilities to help him on a case he is working on. Will Vivvy be persuaded to help or will she agree and wish she hadn’t?

Living in Texas I loved the mention of Garrison brother’s whiskey as I have been to the distillery and its darn good bourbon. The characters are quirky, relatable, captivating and just fun. Thank you Macmillan Audio, NetGalley and author Julia Heaberlin for this advanced audio which is out as of June 20. Narrated by the fabulous Karissa Vacker. I have listened to several of the books she has narrated and she is amazing.

4+ stars

Although this book followed some of the typical thriller/suspense story patterns, it also had something a bit different. I appreciated the duality of the protagonist being a scientist as well as a psychic; it was interesting to see a balance between these types of pieces that aren’t often paired together. I did enjoy much of the book, but I’m never going to be a fan of storyline elements that are too closely focused on cops as co-protagonists and/or love interests; just not my thing. Even so, this was an overall fun and intriguing book, and I did largely enjoy and appreciate what the writer did with the story.

Got the NetGalley audiobook widget for this one in my email and decided I was totally in the mood for a thriller. Totally turned out to be an excellent choice, because I really enjoyed this one. Loved the evocative writing, the twisting of several different mysteries, and the seamless blending of science and paranormal. I really enjoyed Vivi Buchet's character and complexities as well as her back and forth with Jesse Sharp in a very subtly changing relationship (even though I thought the shift at the end was a little abrupt or sudden.) The only thing that I didn't like was Vivi's weird relationship with Mike and her sister. I didn't feel like it added a whole lot to the story and it just seemed uncomfortable and odd. Luckily, it was one minor element, with so much good to balance it out. I was totally drawn in to the whole story, and found the ending extremely satisfying. Would totally read the sequel if there ever was one. Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for the free copy! (Which reminds me, the narration was excellent. Definitely one of my favorite narrators.) (4.75/5)

REVIEW
Night Will Find You explores the deceptive nature of conspiracy theories and our urge to believe them. It's a fascinating psychological thriller with a psychic, a haunted mansion, and a little girl who's been missing for ten years.

The writing is smart, and the story is riveting. This story has so many parts that we can fill a picnic basket. This book should be on your reading list.

The characters are all unique and well-drawn. Vivvy character is precisely what I love to find in a female protagonist. She is intelligent but humble. She gives as good as she gets, stands her ground, and never plays the fool. The antagonist, Bubba Guns, is quite the ‘doesn’t care if it's a true” sensationalist podcaster. He’ll say whatever it takes to increase his followers. You will love to hate him. Thankfully, other male characters in the book are not so rabid.

I was impressed by author Julia Heaberlin’s writing, plot, and character development and will look forward to reading additional books she has written. I listened to the audiobook for Night Will Find You. Narrator Karissa Vacker's voice was simply perfect for the book. She had to voice both male and female and young and old characters and did a fabulous job with each. Her pacing, tone, and accents were notable.

Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an advance reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Vivvy is an astrophysicist and has built a solid career for herself. As the book opens her mother has just passed away. She’s gone back to her mother’s town to deal with the funeral. Vivvy’s mother was unconventional. Her and her older sister didn’t know their father and were moved around as her mom struggled to support them with various jobs. When Vivvy was a child she started having premonitions. It made life hard for her and she eventually learned to mask that part of herself. While she’s in town she’s roped into looking at some cold case files for her cop brother-in-law who knows of her psychic abilities. She reluctantly begins working on the most famous cold case of the era with a colleague of her BIL, the intimidating detective Jesse Sharp.

This is a good whodunnit with the reluctant psychic and the tough detective. It’s not listed as a series but it would be a perfect candidate with this crime fighting duo. The narration is good as well. This is a great way to wrap up summer if you have any pool days left.

A 28 year old astrophysicist who is also just happens to be a psychic, count me in! Vivvy Bouchet goes home to Fort Worth when her mother dies. Her childhood friend Mike, now a cop and her brother-in-law asks for her help in finding a missing girl. Mike believes in Vivvy's abilities because as a child she saved him from getting hit by a car, a premonition she had had about him dying.

The relationship between Vivvy, Mike and her sister Brig is strong and draws you into the characters and their triangle. Then enters Detective Jesse Sharp, a hard to read, hard man. He doesn't buy into being psychic and tests Vivvy whenever possible, the inevitable sparks between them is the only easily predictable angle of the story.

Vivvy's search for the truth about the disappearance of young Lizzie and the hounding of Vivvy's private life by podcaster Bubba Guns keep the story moving and me anxiously waiting to see how things will be sorted out. There is also the mystery of the charm bracelet that Jesse has a picture of and the young girl next door who was clos to Vivvy's mom.

Vivvy is a brilliant woman and self-described nerd who just wants her life back.

Thanks to #Netgalley for the ARC audiobook!

The premise of this novel was good, but I don't think I am a fan of this author. There was a lot of confusing rhetoric regarding religion/christianity vs. science, with scientific inaccuracies It made me dislike the author, because it felt preachy - especially when being read by an atheist.

As far as the book went, it was just too predictable. The annoying podcaster ends up being involved with the big case in a 'surprising' way. Details were repeated too much. The main character's OCD with banging on the wall isn't discussed enough and felt out of place. And the narrator whispers a lot, which made the audiobook difficult to listen to while constantly adjusting the volume.

2/5 stars.

As a Texas native, I really enjoyed the location this book took place in, but also the narrators accents! This book truly has you wondering how real psychic abilities can be and how sone people have true talents in picking up on the unseen. I enjoyed the rollercoaster mystery and thriller aspects of this book and did not see the ending coming. I always think I’m crazy when my thriller reads make me so emotional. The characters were great and I was truly invested in the plot line!

A riveting mystery psychological thriller involving investigation of a cold case of an unsolved missing three year-old Lizzy Solomon. She disappeared from her Fort Worth home without a trace. Her mother Nicolette languishes in prison, loudly proclaiming her innocence. No body was ever found. Twenty-eight year old Vivvy Bouchet returns home to Fort Worth to bury her mother… the local revered psychic. Vivvy is a respected and highly acclaimed astrophysicist delving into possible extraterrestrial life on the basis of her observations of a “glimpse of artificial life from deep space. In addition, Vivvy tries to hide her apparent “ gift” inherited from her mother …. she often has had a “vision” of events after touching objects. This ability is most troublesome considering her scientific credentials. In childhood one of these visions saved the life of neighborhood boy , Mike Ramona. She later became infatuated with Mike and had romantic aspirations … only to have him marry her sister, Brigette. When Vivvy returns home, she is pressured by now police officer, Mike to assist in the high profile cold case involving Lizzy Solomon. She is presented with the case file, photos ,a hair clip, and a blood stained pink bow. Vivvy has a vision and “feels” that Lizzy is “Alive”. She is requested to aid in the further investigation alongside the skeptical detective Jesse Sharp. To make matters worse, a local and vitriolic podcaster, Bubba Guns, becomes embroiled in the investigation by slinging wild accusations and claims … once he learns of Vivvy Bouchet’s involvement. An army of angry followers initiate damming and harmful spin on social media, and fuel various conspiracy theories. Is there a dangerous kidnapper or killer still on the loose?
Heaberlin proves to be a masterful storyteller as she weaves a twisted and complex narrative complemented with multi-layered compelling characters. She explores family relationships and dysfunctions, along with the balancing of scientific truth with the unexplainable. Intrigue, mystery and suspense are continually ratcheted up to explode into an unexpected denouement. The reader is left with a yearning for further storylines involving these complex characters. There are rumblings that a TV series is under development for FOX TV.
I personally switched back and forth between my kindle version and the audiobook. I found myself leaning toward the audiobook, narrated by the magnificent Karissa Vacker. This classically trained actress has won many Audio Awards with her output of over three hundred books. She has the rare ability to provide effective male and female voices with her nuanced performances, that bring the story to life in the theatre of your mind.

Devoted Texan astrophysicist Vivvy Bouchet (daughter of a well-known psychic) was 10 years old when she saved a boy's life by making a prediction. The boy she saved has become a cop and firmly believes Vivvy's psychic ability can help him with a high-profile cold case kidnapping. She teams up with his colleague, handsome and skeptical detective Jesse Sharp, who is reluctant to be working with her.
Bubba Guns is a unique and significant character in this story. He is a podcaster with a following of conspiracy theorists and decides to focus on discrediting Vivvy's professional reputation and psychic ability.
An extraordinary and mesmerizing story!
Karissa Vacker's narration is fantastic!

Vivvy Boucher has a rough life growing up with a psychic as a mother. However, when she is 10 years old she saves a neighbor boy with her foresight. Now, all grown up she is an astrophysicist, but that neighbor boy is a cop and likes to keep pulling her back in to help with missing person cases. When he asks her to look into a cold case she gets more than she bargains for. Detective Jesse Sharp is a sceptic, but can't deny some of the things Vivvy seems to know. But someone doesn't want the truth to come out. And is Vivvy's feeling of the girl still being alive real? Will detective Sharp's demons get in the way?
This was a pretty action packed story the whole way through. There wasn't much down time. If you enjoy mystery, thriller, and fast paced stories you will enjoy this one! I also enjoyed it as an audiobook! The narrator did a great job.
It has already been published, so if it sounds like your thing, go out and check it out!

**3.5-stars rounded up**

Night Will Find You introduces the Reader to Vivvy Bouchet, an astrophysicist with special gifts. Since she was 10-years old, and made a predication that saved a boy's life, Vivvy has been navigating the voices in her head.
Her visions are completely at odds with the science she is trained in, but Vivvy can't deny the validity of either.

The boy she saved all those years ago, Mike, is now a Fort Worth cop. He's never forgotten Vivvy's abilities. Therefore, as he struggles to solve a high-profile cold case of a missing young girl, he reaches out to Vivvy for help. It's a bit of a last resort, but Mike really believes Vivvy could be able to lead them to the truth behind this girl's disappearance. While Vivvy isn't crazy about the idea, or the potential spotlight it could bring, she reluctantly agrees.

After Vivvy's involvement in the case becomes known to a popular Texas podcaster, Bubba Guns ((read Alex Jones)), known for spewing inflammatory conspiracy theories, he begins talking about her on his show. He holds nothing back, questioning Vivvy's abilities, her career, her past, and the sanity of the police department for seeking her help in the first place. Bubba's focus on Vivvy unfortunately brings her a lot of unwanted attention.

Unable to stomach the lies being spread about her, Vivvy decides to fight back. Of course this does nothing but get the snowball moving faster down the hill. Vivvy needs to solve this case and quickly. Will she ever be able to get her normal life back?

This was a bit of mixed bag for me, but overall I did enjoy it. The audiobook is narrated by one of my favorites, Karissa Vacker, and I recommend that format. I think Vacker's narration definitely contributed to my enjoyment and how quickly I was able to finish it.

The MC, Vivvy, in particular, was very interesting. I enjoyed learning about her past and her odd relationships with her family members. If there were more books with her as the main character, I would pick them up. It would be interesting to see where she goes from here.

I wasn't necessarily into the podcaster, or conspiracy theory elements, in this context. I'll admit, my eyes sometimes glazed over in those sections. I wish this could've just focused on the missing person case. I recognize that is a personal taste issue, however, and many Readers may find that interesting. It just didn't end up working for me.

With this being said, I did think the mystery was well plotted. That's why I am thinking if this were a series, the next book could work even better for me, if it didn't have the podcasting angle.

Overall, I would recommend this to Readers who enjoy stories where people with psychic abilities aid law enforcement with missing persons cases. The mystery itself was its strongest point, IMO.

Thank you so much to the publisher, Macmillan Audio, for providing me with a copy to read and review. Karissa Vacker's narration, unsurprisingly, receives two thumbs up!

I have loved detective shows with psychics … both “Psych” and “The Mentalist” are shows I have seen every single episode of but I haven’t read many books were the police used a psychic or medium … here Vivvy Bouchet actually does not want to be known as a psychic - she is an astrophysicist by training and that is what she wants to be known as but there is a cop in Fort Worth who knows about her psychic abilities - she saved him as a boy and he ended up changing her fate and marrying her sister … now there’s an older case that was thought closed that is suddenly back in the spotlight getting way too much media attention even conspiracy theorists start talking about it … as the police is out of regular options and Vivvy is back in town due to her mother’s recent death she is pulled in against her wishes and while she is trying to keep the upper hand darker forces are pulling on her from different angles - creepy and full of suspense !
Karissa Vacker’s narration was perfect for this book !

Night Will Find You by Julie Heaberlin took a different take on a murder mystery with a psychic, who is also a scientist, helping to solve the case. It had a mix of the current political/social media drama within the story.

Pub date: 6/20/23
Genre: mystery/suspense
Quick summary: Vivvy is a scientist whose psychic abilities saved a boy years ago. Today, she'll help that boy - now a police officer - solve a cold case.

Will I listen to any suspenseful story that Karissa Vacker narrates? Yes, yes I will. I also heard some great reviews from trusted booksta friends, so I was really excited to read this one. I loved that Vivvy showed that science and the supernatural don't have to be mutually exclusive - like many other women in STEM, I believe there are some things we can't really explain.

This book is not really a thriller, so don't expect to be on the edge of your seat at the beginning. But I enjoyed the slower burn since we got a nice character study of Vivvy at the beginning. The ending really ratcheted up the tension as everything became clear. I enjoyed the overall spookiness of the narrative, as well as the commentary on true crime.

If you enjoy true crime and psychological suspense/thriller, pick this one up! I think audio is the way to go.

WOW! I am SO glad I was invited to listen to this audiobook by NetGalley and Macmillan Audio because it was EXCELLENT! Not only was the story absolutely gripping and very unique, but Karissa Vacker did an amazing job bringing these characters to life.

I truly don’t know where to start with this review because everything I loved about this book feels like it could lead to a spoiler..: 😂 what I will say is there should be more crime thrillers with psychic characters because I was OBSESSED with Vivvy! She had so much depth and I wanted to know every detail about her.

I really really hope Julia Heaberlin plans to make this a series because I need more. Please please please, Julia?? 🤩 In the meantime, you all need to read this!

What a unique story! Vivvy is a PhD astrophysicist and psychic. She is able to see things about people from objects so her police detective brother in law sometimes asks for her to touch/look at crime scene pictures or evidence to see if she can help their investigation. The town is investigating the cold case murder/disappearance of a young girl and Vivvy find herself directly in the crosshairs. Karissa Vacker is one of my fav narrators and she knocked this one out of the park!
