A good book but very strange people hard to follow sometimes it goes back and forth very surprising things happen to clear things up.
This was a so-so thriller. There are so many thrillers available now and this one didn't blow me away or leave me with a lasting impression the way other books of the same genre have.
The Visit is a twisty thriller about Vanessa who seemingly has it all - a nice home, loving husband ( Curtis), and two beautiful children. But after a knock on the door during a dinner party she hosts, her life is flipped upside down. When Vanessa's ex Hayden barges back into her life after not seeing him since she was sixteen-years-old, it's apparent from the start that she's uncomfortable and unhappy to see him. Curtis begins to question if Vanessa is hiding something, and when Hayden starts to successfully drive a wedge between them, her life begins to unravel fast.
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy of this book! This was a very fun twisty psychological thriller and it get me intrigued until the very end. I loved the ending of the book and found it it be quite satisfying.
Thank you Netgalley. What a ride!! This was a twisty and propulsive read. When you think you have it figured out...WHAM! I loved it!! Highly recommend and looking forward to more from this author
The Visit is a physcological thriller that keeps the reader on their toes as the twists take you tumbling. The plot is satisfying until the end.
I really enjoyed this story & I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. Would definately read another book by this author.
The plot definitely pulls you in. But the last 30% didn't make up for the whole plot build up. Essa should've been the one to take revenge.
The three unexpected twists are the life to the story. Never expected Russell to be the good twin. Never expected Hayden to be god level manipulative. And the truth about Essa's mom is like cherry on top.
I enjoyed reading this book. It kept me thinking about it even though I am not reading it. I would recommend this to people who love thrillers.
This book was definitely more domestic suspense than true thriller. There were MANY moving pieces and storylines, and they kind of crashed together jarringly. It definitely has potential, but could use more of an editorial eye to pull it all together more cohesively.
I wish there was more of a storyline from other points of view, and less epistolary flashbacks that really only set up a tiny part of the story. Or alternatively, I wish that more of the story had been told in epistolary format, and it spanned the entire past history that the MC was aware of.
The Todd storyline was good enough to have been its own story…and it got lost in the midst of this book, unfortunately.
This book grips the reader and completely immerses you in the storyline. You feel like you are right there in the action. It also keeps on giving when you think you have it all worked out and there are no more.secrets wham!
This heart-pounding thriller had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it. In fact, it's one of the best books I've read this year.
This wasn’t for me. I didn’t really like the plot nor did I care what was going to happen. I thought it was lackluster. Not even sure why I requested it.
An exciting and thrilling ride! It’s one of those that just keeps on giving when you thinks it’s over 🙌
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'The Visit' by Robert W Kirby.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Robert W Kirby, Inkubator and Zooloos Book Tours .
Publication date 4th June 2023
This is the first book I have read by this author.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Inkubator. I have yet to read a book published by Inkubator books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book.
This novel consists of 72 chapters. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Whitstable, Canterbury, England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have in fact visited and holidayed in England on many occasions including this year and next year again so am looking forward to possibly recognising name places.
This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist are Vanessa Pascall, Curtis Pascall, Delphine and Curtis. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
Absolutely loved this fast paced, gritty and unputdownable psychological thriller filled with emotions and secrets!!!
This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all making your heart pound and you constantly second guessing.
A huge success by Robert!!! This may be the first book I have read by this fantastic author but it most certainly wil not be my last and I've already added all the rest of his books to my Amazon wish list. This book had me hook, line and sinker from the first page and I could not put it down!!! Every time I said one more chapter it ended on a cliffhanger and I just had to know what was going on!!! This kept on happened over and over until before I knew it I had devoured the whole book in one sitting!! If you are going to read this then clear your day because it is truly unputdownable. I started this this morning and finished it at approx 2pm, reading it in one sitting. Vanessa, Craig and their children have moved into to a stunning beachfront estate in the holiday capital of Whitstable, England. Vanessa couldn't be happier and they are enjoying a dinner party with their friends Delphine and Curtis when her ex boyfriend Hayden shows up. When he starts making inappropriate comments Jonas sends him on his way but Vanessa blames Craig for allowing him to come into the house. Hayden starts making life hell for Vanessa and she starts becoming paranoid and letting life go down hill. Hayden has many personalities and Craig wants to know what hold he has over Vanessa and find out the truth. Suddenly one of their friends are murdered and life isn't the dream they thought they would have when they moved. What secrets are Vanessa hiding? Has she put her friends and family in danger? With twists, surprises, secrets and shocks all over this epic storyline you will need to grab your copy to get your answers and find out what secrets have changed their lives!!! Grab your copy and jump on the rollercoaster ride of secrets, family, suspense, murder, friendship, twists, thrills romance and everything you could ask for in an epic page turner!!! Roberts fantastic and evocative writing skills ensures you are whisked away to Whitstable feeling your heart pounding and the hair on your arms raise. This book is rammed with suspense and tension and will keep you biting your nails, on the edge of your seat with your heart pounding while your flipping the pages because you just cant stop. I loved the fantastic ending that left me wanting to pick up more of Roberts books and get stuck straight in.
This may be the first book I have read by this very talented author but it most certainly won't be the last and I cannot wait to get stuck into more of his previous and future books!!!
The authors evocative writing skills brings each of the characters to life and leaves you feeling that you are standing next to them as their story unfolds and lives start to tumble around them. Each of the characters were realistic, well rounded and strong characters which makes it a realistic read. All the characters were strong and realistic as well as hiding their own secrets. I was completely invested in each and every one of them. Although many were flawed as well as unlikeable this made them all the more realistic!!! It is rare for me to become so invested in unlikeable characters but the storyline was so addictive i just could not put it down!!!! There were flaws, secrets and so much more you have no idea who to trust and what the truth really is!!! Robert makes you question each and every one of the characters throughout!!! I don't want to risk saying more about how I felt about the characters as I don't want to give anything away to future readers but I will say that I was annoyed, angry, upset, disappointed at the different ones for many different reasons!! Regardless of whether you love them or hate them they each played their parts perfectly!!!
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first two chapters of Roberts's ''The Wrong Girl' which promises to be just as addictive as this book and is one I'm definitely looking forward to reading myself!!
Overall an addictive and gripping emotional rollercoaster of secrets, family, suspense, tension and everything you could want in a gripping thriller!!

Vanessa is living a good life. She has a locks husband, a great house, and great friends. At a small party someone from her past shows up that she never wanted to see again. She’s kept this person a secret so her husband and friends know nothing about him. The author turns the story several ways and keeps us guessing. I enjoyed how the author revealed past information in small sections. It allowed me to start to understand the past but kept me wanting to read to find out more. This book has quite a few subplots and characters going in different directions. This book will keep you guessing until the very end.
No one expects their past to land on their doorstep decades later. Dragging the past to present.
The past is often best forgotten. And, that's what Vee thought and wished.
A dream home on the Kent coast, a party with friends. That turns on its head as a person thought long dead appears on the doorstep.
The plot and the characters are bold, and intertwine with ease. The story flows well and is easy to read.
Past and present meet and don't trip each other up, and also without bogging the reader down to much in one area.
The ending, wasn't something that I was expecting. But, in the end nothing else matters.
Status: Completed
Rating: 3.8/5.0
This kept me up at night. Spine-tingling and atmospheric, if you're looking for a spooky thriller, this story is for you!
I read the first few chapters, then skimmed through the rest of the book. The plot is good, and in the end, I kept thinking that it would make for a good movie. While the prose in itself is not bad, the writing needs to be tightened up a lot—it's way too wordy and repetitive, which makes it quite a slow read. I also had a few eye-rolling moments, where the characters' actions just didn't make sense. My favorite part of the novel was Todd's voice, which was unique and funny. This really shows that the author does have talent, the book just probably needs a few more rounds of beta reader comments and copy editing to shine.
A bit of disaster. There are too many characters and none of them well developed nor likeable. The behaviors of both wife and husband seemed odd to me. Well, there are many unhappy people out there so maybe it reflects someone's reality.
The thing that surprised me the most was description of other people on the beach or town. Everyone is described quite condescendingly. Why are writing and observations so judgmental? I didn't care to find out the mystery behind everything.
Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange of an honest review.
This was an intriguing story. However, I found it to be quite choppy. I was often left wondering when we were going to get to the point. But again, the story itself was good. Good enough for me to want to finish the book.
Thank you to Robert Kirby, his publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me access to this eArc in exchange for my honest opinion.
